RED had released a software update that gives EPIC and SCARLET cameras the ability to shoot true still images in RED’s R3D raw format. Previously, stills were only available as extracted frames. Software version 6.0.x allows the still photographer to use a burst mode on the camera and hence the ability to access the RED cameras’ 16.5 stops of dynamic range.
