Nasa’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory in Houston, Texas hosted a three-day Gates STO class for several members of the NBL dive team.

John Ellerbrock of Gates Underwater Products, Sean Ruggeri from Red Digital Cinema and Peter Lightowler of Down Under Aquatic Imaging were tasked with training the team members to become proficient with using Red Digital Cinema cameras, Gates Underwater housings and editing with Blackmagic Designs Davinci Resolve for the NBL’s in house requirements.

Over the course of three days, the dive staff covered topics such as underwater optics and lens considerations, Red Cinema camera settings for underwater filming, the differences between Red’s sensors and the many benefits of acquiring footage in high resolution. Gates housing prep and troubleshooting was also part of the curriculum along with an introduction to editing video, using Davinci Resolve.
