RETRA Strobe Thread
Yehia replied to guyharrisonphoto's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
Hello, I am planning to purchase pair of Retra Pro X with supercharger to use with my Sony A1 camera in Nauticam housing. I wanted to ask the experts here what exactly do i need to purchase to use TTL and HSS on the camera? i have heard some limitations with Nauticam housing and wondering if there are workarounds? I am interested to know what would be the final setup look (TTL converter, tigger, cabels, etc..) would appreciate your advises! -
Best strobe lights for Sony A1 camera
Yehia replied to Yehia's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
Seacams are way out of budget, if you want to get decent one, they are about 2200 alone. I was considering the ikealite because i can get two strobes for the price of one seacam. but now i am leaning towards the retra for it's versatility and accessories from diffusers, restrictor rings and reflectors. I guess it's a good bang for the buck, but i still need to look for TTL compatibility with the Nauticam housing. -
I am in the market for a new strobe light to use with my Sony A1 camera in a Nauticam housing, and I was hoping to get your advice and opinions on which one to purchase. After doing some research, I am considering the Ikealite DS230 strobe, but I am not entirely sure if it is the right choice for my camera and housing. My budget for the strobe, TTL trigger, and cables is around $4,000, so I want to make sure I am getting the best quality for my money. I am looking for a strobe that is compatible with the Nauticam A1 housing and that will give me high-quality lighting for my underwater photography - wide angle mainly. I would appreciate any advice you may have on the compatibility of the Ikealite DS230 with the Nauticam A1 housing, as well as any recommendations you may have for compatible TTL triggers and cables (fiber or electronic) to use with this combo. If you have any other suggestions for strobes in this price range, I would be happy to hear them. Thank you in advance for your help and input.

Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of setting up my underwater videography gear and would like to get some advice on the best optical quality that I can achieve using Sony A1/A7SIII cameras. I have done a lot of research and have found that using the 28-60 F4-5.6 with the WACP-1 and for macro, the Sony 90mm lens seems to be the best option. I am planning to invest in the Nauticam housing, but I am unsure about the optics that I should get. There are a few options available, such as the 28-70 F3.5-5.6 OSS and 16-35 PZ F4. I am also unsure about whether I should go with the WACP-1 or WACP-C, as some people say that the optical quality is not significantly different to justify the price difference between them. So, I would like to get your opinion on what is the best combo I should use for wide-angle (mainly for videography). for macro setup, everyone suggests the Sony 90mm lens, but I am wondering if there are any other better setups for macro. Regarding lights, I've heard that Keldan lights are the best, but I'm not sure which model to go for. Additionally, I'm wondering if they're really worth the investment, as they do seem to be quite pricey compared to other dive light brands. Have any of you used Keldan lights before, and if so which model do you recommened? do you think they're worth paying 3x-4x more money for? Lastly, I would like to ask for your opinion on whether there is a better setup that I should consider instead of the Sony A1. Is there another camera or setup that will provide me with better quality? I am looking for something within the price range of the A1 (my budget is 20-25k for the whole underwater setup excl. camera and lenses), so please don't suggest the RED V-raptor XXL with gates housings :p I'd really appreciate any recommendations or insights you have, especially if you've had practical experience with the equipment you're recommending.
