Various U/W stuff, sync cord, Aquatica port extension and strobe arms
scubamarli replied to scubamarli's topic in Classifieds
All sold except the Sea & Sea sync cord. Relisted at a lower price. Tested, new orings. I have three, don't need another. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130943377087?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Cheers, Marli -
I do not need to use huge fonts, but my enthusiasm is the same. Crystal Blue in Anilao was great. You have muck diving, but it is different than Lembeh, of which I am a huge fan. The diving protocol was similar, with low guide to diver ratios. Tons of nudibranchs (at least in late March) and cephalopods. However, there is also some very pretty coral reef diving, although you should not expect big stuff (except turtles and schools of batfish), although whale sharks have been spotted, it is unusual. The resort is small, personal attention was great. My only concern in the 10 days was the dust in the camera room. It would just take a moment to wipe down the top of the cubicles, so when the fans are on it doesn't get airborne. Of course, I didn't realize it until late in the trip...due to sensor spots on my newly cleaned sensor. I would definitely be back, and intend to in the near future. Mike is a great host, and our guide, Edgar, worked his butt off trying to please seasoned photographers. Do not expect a luxury, inclusive, pool type resort. This is a resort designed for divers and particularly diving photographers. I did nothing but the Eat, Dive, Sleep, Repeat times 4 deal. Have a massage, too. Have two; it was great. There will be a spa soon, too. Cheers, Marli

I just found these when cleaning out the camera cupboard. I sold my housing last fall, so if you have an Aquatica AD200, here's a great deal: $15 US for both, will ship to the USA and Canada for free. Paypal works for me. Cheers, Marli

Deciding on travel details to Ambon

Well, Equinox is going to book it for me. Hopefully, the pilots are in training. (Although it appears that wind shear was the issue with the Bali incident). -

Deciding on travel details to Ambon

Well, I have had no success booking on Lion Air. It simply will not accept my credit card; as many others have experienced. I am guessing that I will have to book it through an agent or through Maluku divers. Totally frustrating experience. Sriwijaya doesn't fly mid-week, and Garuda wouldn't even post availability. Deciding on travel details to Ambon

Eva only flies three days a week from Vancouver, but they are joining Star Alliance as of June 18th, so I am waiting to see if there are flights that will work. I flew Eva to Manila in March, and was pleasantly surprised, save for the lack of points for the flights getting me there. Points accrued only for the return. Thanks for the info re: Garuda's check in. Cheers, Marli -
Deciding on travel details to Ambon

All interesting advice to consider. Drew, my concern is not the 3.5 hour flight, it's the prior thirty hours coming from the west coast. Stopping in Singapore and changing airlines results in an additional $250 for the Crowne Plaza each direction, or going to stay in the city; I have to pass through immigration to check in to my connecting flight, so the Transit hotel is not an option. I am not a napper, and do not sleep on planes, unfortunately. I am sure I will figure it all out. -

Thanks for the input, Mike, My issue is that after almost 30 hours of travel, I am a total zombie. In film days I learned that diving the day I arrive = zombie-like behaviour which is not good for assembling camera gear. I am trying to figure out how to break up the trip. I notice that you would not choose Lion Air. Any reason aside form the Bali landing fiasco? I am unable to book anything yet, as I am a few weeks away from being able to book anything that far in advance, and Batik Air is so new, their online booking is non-functional, at least from here. I must admit the prices are great, compared to Garuda, but will they be there a year from now? Cheers, Marli -
I am trying to decide on the best way to get from Vancouver to Ambon, using points for part of the journey. I dread spending time in Jakarta. Here are my choices: a) Points to Singapore, overnight at the Crowne Plaza, continue onto Jakarta the following afternoon. This is the most costly option, but leaves me with enough points for another trip to Asia. Excess baggage charges will start to accrue, as well, I guess. b) Points to Jakarta, with a stopover in Singapore at the Transit Hotel. c) Points to Jakarta, straight through, arriving a few hours before the flight to Ambon. (and probably feeling like crap) The cheapest, but those points are gone.... d) as above, but arriving a day early on Ambon to recover from jetlag. Any advice on Garuda vs LionAir (aside from their planes running off the runway) would be appreciated. Cheers, Marli

The slug is an undescribed Janolus. The shrimp is Hamopontia corallicola, or Egg shell shrimp. Cheers, Marli

Same thing happened to me on SilkAir, upon check in in Singapore. My travel agent had booked the tickets. My card that was used for payment was compromised. I was asked to pay for two new tickets; I had to kick up a fuss and when they verified with Visa that in fact my card had been replaced, they backed down. It does say on most online sites that your credit card is needed. I simply forgot as I had booked the tickets so far in advance. So, if you do have an issue, contact the airline in advance. Cheers, Marli

Some scientists think that this green form is a different species, but for now, this Lumpy Bumpy is P. pustulosa.

I always think that Skeleton shrimp look like they are doing the Macarena...but then that's dating me. Think about the song the next time you see one. You will smile. Cheers, Marli

Starry blenny. They are adorable...for a fish.

Hi everyone, I like to vote on picture of the week to keep up my CAPA training for photo judging, which is rusty. I have a hard time voting for photos that have large names plastered on them. Ironically, this is usually by well known contributors on the site. I understand the concern for copyright infringement totally. Is there some way to watermark without an obvious connection to the individual's identity? I have never entered this contest, so nothing to do with valid competition, but it actually prevents me from voting for good images when I see a name so obviously branded across an image. Can a rule be put in place to prevent the obvious identity of the competitor? It just seems like a fairer way of doing things. Cheers, Marli

Frogfish Expert - Hispid or Striated?
scubamarli replied to liquidguru's topic in Critter Identification
Stunning footage, as usual, Kaj. It's definitely not a Hispid. The lure on a hispid is fluffy and round..like a pom pom. The lure on yours is...different than a A. striatus, which is split into two halves, Everything else looks the same though. HMMMM. One other thought..is this a juvie? How big? Maybe the lure would turn into a pom pom. As usual, clear as mud. Love Lembeh. Always full of cool surprises. Cheers, Marli -
I am looking for a used Aquatica (Z)48719 focus gear to use with the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC MACRO HSM (OS) DX and D7000 housing, extension and 8 inch dome. Cheers, Marli

Wow; what a beautiful clip of fantastic memories. I feel like it was a Christmas present. Thank you.

Well, it has been a year of extremes, and no Indo-Pacific diving. So, although these may not be my best shots, they represent the extremes of my underwater photo subjects. The first, as many here seem to be unwilling to decide on just one, takes us to the extreme of which I am so fond. From another "interesting" trip, where I was actually working as an underwater photo teacher on Bonaire, where I started taking photos underwater many moons ago. After the course ended, I was able to relax and really concentrate on finding the things I like: the miniscule Second, from a remarkably unproductive first trip to the Socorros. I did get whacked on the head by a manta, so that, at least was memorable! This is one of few shots not occupied by an over-zealous diver that was intent on getting between me and every critter that appeared. Karma intervened, when he decided to get in between a silky shark and a bait ball. Lucky that he was wearing a 7mm. Few scars will result from the bite. It did not seem to deter him from being in most of my photos.. Now, I have to get through editing 2012. I just finished 2011. Yikes. There are always some amazing shots here that humble me. Cheers, and a Happy 2013 to everyone! Marli
