Hi all I'm looking for any tips, experiences, whatever useful info may be available and is now hidden in peoples' heads I am taking my new u/w photography gear on a diving holiday to El Quseir for a week, flying out on Friday. It's an Olympus EPL3 camera & PT-EP05L housing. For now I will be using the EPL3 kit lens (14-42mm). Also I bought the UCL-165 M67 macro lens. I realise that it's a little basic but it's all I can afford for now. I will also be using my Inon Z240 type 3 flashgun (generally on Manual mode) Would love to hear from anybody else who is using the same system and whether they have any useful tips, observations, things that don't work?, what kind of subjects it's good for etc etc. I do a lot of land-photography with off-camera flash and now that I'm finally using something that isn't a point and shoot compact, I'd like to get as good results as I can within my gear's limitations. Anyway, any tips you can give me would be much appreciated. thx David

Hi all I've recently upgraded my u/w kit to the Olympus EPL3 camera & PT-EP05L housing. For now I will be using the EPL3 kit lens (14-42mm). Also I bought the UCL-165 M67 macro lens. From my old Olympus compact camera u/w setup I still have the UCL-165AD macro lens. There is an adapter "10 Bar Inon AD To M67 Mount Adapter" which can be used to "attach the lens to a standard 67mm threaded lens port on a housing". Can it also be used to stack a UCL-165AD with a UCL-165 M67 lens? ie I would have : PT-EP05L housing --> UCL-165 M67 --> 10BAR adapter-->UCL 165AD Has anybody tried this and if it works, are the results any good? If this doesn't work I can sell the UCL-165AD on ebay thx David

Hi all I want to sell my Olympus SP350 cameras and accessories to move onto something more modern. Note that I no longer have the original boxes/software or cables. This would be a very good purchase for an existing owner of Olympus SP350 who was spare cameras. The kit includes 2 x Olympus SP350 cameras (perfectly functioning, some cosmetic wear and tear) Third party charger and various Li-On batteries 2 x Olympus PT30 housings - FOR SPARE PARTS only, I don't know if they are safe to dive with because the shutter button on the housing is sticky Any other cables and manuals I can find. Assorted XD Cards, O-rings etc. If anybody wants to make an offer, please email me at davidkittos@hotmail.com I will ONLY accept payment via paypal before I ship the kit and I prefer to deal with a UK buyer if possible. No money orders, cheques, cash etc etc Otherwise I will need to take my chances on ebay thx David

Olympus E-PL1,with underwater housing
dkayuk replied to edmond320's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hi all does anybody know if the Olympus housing for the EP-L1 supports the adapter for 4/3 lenses? Or would I need to buy a new micro 4/3s macro (when it's released) and WA lens. I already own the 50mm f2.0 ZD macro lens and 9-18mm WA (I use them for land photography) and don't particularly want to pay for their micro 4/3s little brothers I've read Kathy Church's review. Shooting macro with the kit lens? Seriously? Also, any info on the macro lens for the PT-EP01 housing? Is it a wet lens like the INON close up lens that I used with my Olympus PT30 housing. thx David -

SP350 settings for use with Inon S-TTL
dkayuk replied to Meloco14's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
Hi Meloco14, I have pretty much an identical setup to yours - same camera, strobe and macro conversion lens. My experience with S-TTL was similar to yours but so I just gave up on it fairly quickly. I now use both the camera and the strobe in manual mode with pretty good results. If you are interested in experimenting with this, read the advanced manual for the strobe, it has an Olympus compact camera settings example, which also applies to SP350. If you want images examples let me know. thx DK -
My pictures used to be quite mediocre but after attending Maria's (Oceanvisions) u/w photoworkshop in Nuweiba in September 2008, I managed a few decent shots. This was the best one. It was taken during a dawn dive (about 7am, I think) on the last day of the workshop. The lionfish were pretty calm and moving more slowly than usual. I managed to get a big lionfish to completely block the sun. The shot was taken at the Nuweiba Hilton Hotel House reef and won me a Sport Diver UK Readers pic of the month. It's the first time I actually won something!! I used an Olympus SP350, Inon Fisheye conversion lens and Inon Z240 strobe (type 3). The fisheye lens were very very close to the lionfish.... Here's my image thx DK

Inon Z-240 and Olympus PT-E05 housing
dkayuk replied to dkayuk's topic in Lights, Strobes, and Lighting Technique
thx for your reply Gary. How would the open-end of the D cable secured? Some kind of velcro or would duct-tape do the job? DK -
Hi I am considering a move to the Olympus PT-E05 housing from my existing SP350/PT30 setup. Currently, I own a flashgun made by Inon - its' the Z240 Type 3 with the Inon arm system, and it's hooked up via the Inon Bayonet and a fiber optic cable. It's used in manual mode (configured as SLAVE) on my camera. My question is, what do I need to buy to connect my flash gun to the Olympus PT-E05 housing. I expect that the arm system doesn't need to be replaced? I am going with a fairly basic system for now, using the 14-42mm lens and the 35mm macro lens. The plan is to stay with full manual/SLAVE mode. Will this work? If anyone has this setup, I'd be interested in your experiences with it (good or bad). thx DK PS: does anyone know of a US reseller who will ship to the UK? I spoke to a couple of UK retailers and apparently the PT-E05 housing is not available in Europe!! Have looked at the B&H website but they don't seem to sell any Olympus SLR housings.

Hi all The Red Sea is my favourite part of the world for diving and I've been to all three locations (once in Sharm, twice in Dahab and twice in Marsa Alam). Sharm: excellent diving, good for beginners, diving is on day-boats (2 - 3 dives a day) but busy divesites. Good nightlife, nice bars, a bit too Westernised for my taste. Still if you haven't been before, you'll have an excellent time. I was diving with Ocean College and I have nothing but praise for them. Dahab: very chilled out, almost exclusively shore diving, very much a diver/surfer location. Excellent diving. Some nice outdoor bars and restaurants (the tourist area is just one street!). Dive-Urge (small centre which offer their own very good accomodation) and Reef 2000 are excellent dive centres (Just google them!). Reef2000 offer a yoga/diving week for those who want to combine the two. Marsa Alam: diving OK, don't miss the Abu Dabab (dugongs) and Elphinstone (sharks) dives. Not much to do at night though. I stayed at Coral Beach Diving Hotel and Marsa Shagra Eco-Village. Marsa Shagra is a hard-core divers choice. They have a house reef and you can dive it as many times as you want!! Excellent for practising u/w photography skills... thx DK
