  1. Help! The lever on the battery pack of my one and only Ikelite ds 125 got stuck half way and now I cannot remove the battery pack from the strobe, neither can I lock it in. Since I am in Sri Lanka we do not have an authorised Ike dealer. Can anybody tell me how to solve the problem. I am in the middle of the dive season and this is a complete disaster! Thanks a lot Ajith
  2. I am a newbie starting off with a 40d so I cannot comment on the 20d. But I must say the 40d is an outstanding camera. One of the main reasons I bought the 40d was the live view function. However I find that it is not as usuful as I thought and I hardly use it.
  3. Hi, I am using a Canon 40d with ikelite housing and a 50mm/f 2.8 lense. I am thinking of buying a wa lense now. is it better to get a 10-22 or to get a 18mm fixed? Thanks Ajith
  4. Thanks guys i guess i will try the AF button since i use an ikelite housing. Also may be a canon 10-22 should be my next lens?
  5. Hi guys, Have been shooting with my 40d and I find it awesome after the little P&S I was used to. Of cpourse its taking me some time to get used to handling the strobe properly. I also find that I cannot press the shutter button halfway for AF since it seems too sensitive and just goes all the way and takes the picture. Any ideas what to about that? Also at the moment I only have a canon 60mm macro. Wha should my next lense be? Thanks
  6. Hi Tim, The diving is great the driving is not! I think the tanker you are refering to is the "Conch" which belonged to the Shell company. Sri lanka diving is still great an still as "adventurous" as you remeber it. But we have a great time which is the main thing. Hope you ill be able to make it back here sometime soon. BTW I m just waiting for the current conflict to end. we will then have the best wreck diving in the World.
  7. Hi AMW, Diving in Sri Lanka is a mixed bag! For example last morning (yes Monday Morning!) I was diving about 10 km from Colombo and about 5 km out to sea. Fantastic wreck dive with about 25m of visibility. After surfacing from the first dive I was just drifting along when suddenly we were being circled by two whales (no idea what kind at the moment). It was a magical moment. The negative of diving in Colombo is that there are no dive operators operating around here so we have to organize everything our selves. Plenty of commercial divers who dive for color fish but you wouldnt want to dive with them! On the other hand there are a number of dive centers operatng further down south sme of them being of fairly decent standards. But by and large its a fairly adventurous destination if you know wht I mean. As a pure dive destination I am not too sure about Sri Lanka. But it is a fantatic place to vist with plenty of things to see including wil life ancient cultures etc etc. However you may have also heard that there is a conflict going on with more averse publicity than acutual problems. For info on diving check out www.srilankadiving.com feel free to contact me if you need any more informaton to help you to decide. I do know almost all the dive centers along the coast so once you decide on where you want to be I can give you a rn down on whats available and their quality. Hope to see you soon.
  8. Well thats done. Just purchased my equipment and waiting for it to arrive. (paying the credit card bill will be considered later
  9. Having just joined and also about to invest in a 40d this thread is a god send. My choices at the moment are as follows. 1. canon 40d body 2. canon 60mm lense 3 iklite housing 4. Ikelite DS 125 (one) strobe Do you guys think this will be adequate to start? Money is an issue. Thanks Ajith
  10. Hi my name is Ajith Fernando and I am from Sunny Sri Lanka, Thats the tear drop just under India in case you havent heard of it before. Not surprising since its a tiny island. But this also means that we have plenty of sea front and some great diving. I am just an average diver but just starting out as an underwater photographer. Have been messing around with a P&S and now on the verge of investing in a better system. Hope to pick up some good tips to help me to decide. At the moment more or less decided on a Canon 40d but decesion can wait till mid Jan. Happy diving and all the very best for the new year. Ajith
