Sorry to hear about your experience, but thanks very much for posting.

Great photos. The last one from the initial post is my favorite (but it is hard to choose).

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Troporobo, that is a great story. Most diving spots make it easy to get hooked, but Cozumel is one of the best because the diving is so easy, and the reefs are so interesting. Those two things don't always go together. -Erwin

I went to Cozumel to meet up with an old friend I have not seen in years, and he just started diving again recently. We stayed at Casa Mexicana, and the trip was set up by the dive shop, Tres Pelicanos. The dive operation was very good, and not too expensive. The hotel was fine, although there was some construction going on in the lobby, which bothered some guests whose rooms were closer to the noise. We just dove for three days, and it was excellent. Water was a little choppy at the surface, but other than that, conditions were excellent. Here are some photos from the trip and the whole set can be found here: 2016 Cozumel photos

Just finished 12 days of diving while staying at Sau Bay in Fiji, diving the Somosomo Straits. The diving was wonderful, and here are a few photos from the trip. and the whole set of photos from the trip (including topside pics) can be found here: 2016 Fiji pics

This cooperative anemone fish is from a trip to Komodo on the Seven Seas liveaboard.

Hello all. I recently returned from a my first diving trip off of Bali. My wife and I stayed at the Scuba Seraya resort, near Tulamben. I used a Nikon D7000 in a Nauticam housing, with dual Inon Z240 strobes. Most of the photography was macro, and I used a Nikkor 85mm lens for those. All of the wide angle shots were taken with a Tokina 10-17mm zoom. Here are some of the shots. 003_adj_DSC_9612 harlequin shrimp by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr 002_adj_DSC_9948 by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr 006_adj_DSC_0183 blue ribbon eel by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr 004_adj_DSC_9629 crinoid squat lobster by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr 010_adj_DSC_0261 longnose hawkfish by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr 017_adj_DSC_9812 by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr and the whole set can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/erwin_poliakoff/albums/72157657721838524 - Erwin

Thanks Mark. I have seen them in other places, and they were almost a solid brown color.

I saw this critter in Bali, depth probably about 15m (50 ft), in a black volcanic rubble area. The shape of it looks identical to a peacock wrasse I have seen previously in other locales, but the color is completely different. I wonder if it is a different kind of critter, or maybe a juvenile phase. Help, please, and thanks in advance. 007_adj_DSC_0342 by Erwin Poliakoff, on Flickr -Erwin

Very nice shots! The whole set is good.

I went on an Indonesia trip with two parts. First, we stayed for 6 nights with Maluku Divers in Ambon for some muck diving. Then we went on to the Seven Seas liveaboard for a South Komodo itinerary. We enjoyed both parts of the trip very much, although I was disappointed with poor visibility for the first half of the Komodo portion of the trip. Anyway, here are a few highlights from the trip. First, here are few from the Ambon portion of the trip. The whole Ambon set can be found here: Ambon u/w pics And here are a few from the Komodo portion of the trip. and the whole set of Komodo pics can be found here: Komodo u/w/ pics from Seven Seas trip Cheers, Erwin

Bohol: recommend a photo friendly operator

I am going to be diving with Sea Explorers in Alona Beach later this year, and I have heard good things about them (although I have not dived with them previously). Just a suggestion, although others may be more knowledgeable. Erwin -
July Warm Water Diving Suggestions Wanted!

I agree that Bonaire diving is very good. I definitely rank Little Cayman as better (my opinion, obviously). The wall and the topography are really special. -

I have never been to the Maldives, but I have heard that they are great. With respect to your Caribbean destinations, I would rank Little Cayman first. The Bloody Bay Wall on the north side of the island has the best Caribbean diving I have seen. I would rank Cozumel and the east end of Grand Cayman slightly below that. All of these areas have healthy reefs, wonderful topography, and great wide angle photo opportunities. Erwin
