Phew I'm glad I don't live anywhere near Alabama!! But I'll be sure to keep my eye for the "Blonde from Essex" despite my lack of a limp!! On the other hand thanks for the great information! Lee -

Hello, If the bulkhead is not wired with five pins then there is no true communication between the strobe and camera, only fire hence no signs from the camera that there is a flash. With the Sea & Sea housing you can only use one at a time either a five pin to be used with a TTL converter or the other one for manual use. Sea & Sea instructs to not use the five pin without a converter as it might jam the camera up but usually it just won't fire as there is too much "miscommunication" between the strobe and camera. Hope this sheds some light! Cheers, Lee

Fatasea Line 44 Bulb LED any good as focus light?
UWPhotoTech replied to azorean's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hello, Check out below: Suprema U-Beam LED Target Light Simple and inexpensive sums it up! Cheers, [Edited by Moderator for commercialism.] -
Hi Ken, Congrats on your new purchase! I have to agree with John in regards to the Fisheye. I generally reccomend a 40 extension ring and +2 diopter for best corner sharpness as well but feel free to play around and see what results are best! On a side note the Sea & Sea DX-D200 is still a current model and should be for at least a little while to come! Once Nikon stops making the camera then the housing will begin its descent in manufacturing! Lee

Dive The Solomon Islands With Underwater Photo-Tech Space still available for our Photo Dive Trip this year to the Solomon Islands. Join Fred Dion of Underwater Photo-Tech for a fantastic two-week photo dive trip aboard the MV Spirit operated by Bilikki Cruises November 13-27, 2007. Spirit of Solomon’s offers 7 deluxe cabins with a full double bed and a single above, private heads and showers. 6 additional cabins, which have 2 single bunks, and share 3 showers and 2 heads. These smaller cabins are booked on a single occupancy basis. We’ll be diving from Honiara, on Guadalcanal Island, to dive sites in the Florida Islands, the Russell Islands, Mborokua (Mary) Island and Marovo Lagoon in the New Georgia Islands. The walls, reefs, pinnacles and coral gardens of Solomon Islands support an amazing variety and quantity of sea creatures. You will see anemone fish, angel fish, butterfly fish, humphead parrot fish and other reef dwellers while just a short distance away schools of barracuda, big-eye trevally and other pelagics cruise in the beautiful blue waters. Fred will be available for help with any photo question whether it be as simple as, how to set-up your camera system, to explaining complex lighting techniques for improving image quality. There will be plenty of time for one on one consultation to keep your trip a vacation and not a photo competition. Demo equipment will be available for use from point and shoot digital systems to advance DSLR outfits. For more information about this fantastic trip please visit our website www.uwphoto.com/travel.html, e-mail fdion@uwphoto.com or call 603-432-1997

Has anyone used the WET MATE lens?
UWPhotoTech replied to DParsells's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
It's geared more for a 105mm lens! Just get i there and snap away! I believe Andy Martinez uses his pretty extensively! Hi Joe hows your system! Cheers, Lee -
This may still be considered speculation but I believe Nikon is currently working on a 40mm AF-S lens to replace what the 60mm was on film. This will certainly be nice in restoring that angle of coverage! The D40 is a nice camera for beginners, most people who buy it will not want to spend $3k on a housing system on top of the camera and lenses, so inexpensive support is the key. This will give avid amatuers more spending room on the whole picture and not just a $2500 housing body! Nikon is slowly building a larger AF-S colection and I imagine this is where the future will go.

Yes - another dome port question re: split level shots
UWPhotoTech replied to tkr's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Check this out!!! I think it will steer you in the right direction! http://www.jonathanbird.net/photo_tip2.htm A large dome will definately work better for you! Hope this helps! Lee -
The first thing you should consider is what you are shooting and what type of shot you are looking to get. A teleconverter is my preferred option but you lose 2 stops of light if you use a 2x converter. These are relatively simple and easy and just need a port extension to accomodate. The other option is a form of diopter like mentioned above. The thing with diopters is because they are close-up lenses they limit your working distance so any thing you have trouble getting close to won't be easy to shoot! Cheers!!

sea and sea, NX fisheye dome port, Nikon 12-24 lens
UWPhotoTech replied to moliu's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
we actually always reccomend a 40 extension ring and a +2 diopter for "optimum' performance!!! Sea & Sea does not reccomend diopters on any of their domes for some reason but we generally try to put one on when we deem it neccesary! Cheers! -
I know Subal is still offering a housing for the 20D and Inon has their recent housing for the 10,20,30D's....... so for a new housing some are readily available plus I am sure a few more as well... Cheers, Lee

Which Digital SLR should I buy???
UWPhotoTech replied to onderwaterfoto's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hi James sorry I didn't enlighten sooner, the D2000 can be used if it has a Nikonos 5-pin cord connector, this can allow it to be used in manual, then with the addition of a conversion board then you could use TTL. Certain Inon models have the proper cord output (I believe the W model)!! So if he has that ability then he would be able to use it!! As for the L&M D200 housing it's unfortunate that its taking such a long time to come to the market but L&M makes great products so hopefully we will be rewarded with the wait!!!!! B) -
Which Digital SLR should I buy???
UWPhotoTech replied to onderwaterfoto's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Hello, I would have to agree with Andree, the Nikon D50 is a great camera to step up to the DSLR world, Sea & Sea makes a nice housing for this and you will be able to move your Inon strobe to this setup, plus Sea & Sea is a committed manufacturer that can grow with your skill as you continue to add other things on to your setup or upgrade..... On the flipside the D80 is a great camera comparable to the D200 and Sea & Sea will have a housing available approximately in November so if you would like to step up to that lvel that is also an option... Regards, Lee
