  1. Absolutely amazing photo! I am going there for New Year's this year. Which dive operator did you use there? Any recommendations? Thank you in advance.
  2. I had the same issue with the D810 Nauticam housing. Put the flip-on adapter and MWL-1 and had the vignetting. There is a video on Nauticam website about the correct installation which strangely enough doesnt talk about the issue. What you have to do is to make sure that the lips of the shade are positioned at the 12 and 6 oclock position. That for me required unscrewing 7 screws on the back of the MWL-1 and rotating the lens so the sunshade is in above mentioned alignment. It worked perfectly afterwards. Ill post example images later.
  3. Dear all, I am taking my family to Eilat, Israel this summer. WE are looking for dive center recommendations. My wife and I are rather seasoned divers, but the kids have only about 30 dives logged. The younger is 13 and the older is 14. Everyone is PADI certified. The kids have Junior certification. Any info on the dive centers, dive sites, possibility of going to Egypt with the dive center/guide is appreciated. We will be renting equipment on site BTW. Thank you very much in advance.
  4. Last year was a bad year for kelp. We had a lot of kelp loss in San Diego and at Catalina. This year it should come back with somewhat colder water. You are correct in planning to dive with the wet suit on Catalina in July. It would actually be ok even further north, if you are not too cold- sensitive. A one day trip to Channel Islands out of Ventura is doable. There are a couple of boats - Peace and Truth as far as I recall were very good. Have fun.
  5. I have been shooting with Auto White Balance with my setup. I recently took a photo class with John at Buddy Dive Resort in Bonaire. He is quite a character by the way. He recommended Cloudy white balance setting on my D810. I have compared the images and experimented on Nikon NX-D (Nikon image editing/converter program). The advantage of NX-D that it does to RAW image exactly what the camera would do in my understanding. Anyway, it seems to me that the images in Cloudy settings are better right out of the camera, compared to Auto WB setting. They seem to require less adjustments.
  6. I believe that the border is sacred. Whatever the country thinks helps to protect/secure its borders is valid. Certainly, long lines are annoying, but they would not deter me from going to a country, if I really want to go.
  7. Just came back from Bonaire a week ago. There is a great dive spot called Small Wall. It is in front of Black Durgon Hotel. The other one is Something Special just south of the entry into the marina. We dove both from the boat so I couldn't comment on the ease of shore entry, but both were good places for macro. Hands Off and Mi Dushi were both good for wide angle reef scenes. Those are the sites on Klein Bonaire. You can see my feeble attempts at both wide angle an macro here: http://golts.zenfolio.com/p430087121 Hope this helps. I am sure you will find plenty of stuff to photograph no matter where you go on Bonaire. We did not have a single dive where we didn't see both good coral formations AND interesting macro subjects worth a picture. Have fun. Please, share the pictures when you come back.
  8. Awesome trip report and pictures! I was there with 3 kids and my wife just two weeks afterwards. Happy to report that Laurent is plugging along and is doing a good job. Kids liked him. The frog fish migrated probably about 20 yards from where you found it and was living almost directly under the Little Buddy mooring in about 35 feet of water. Anyway, great report and pictures. Thank you for sharing. My pics are at http://golts.zenfolio.com/p430087121
  9. Just got back from Bonaire. We spend an awesome week diving with kids. I was rather impressed by how attentive staff of Buddy Dive Resort were to reef conservation.
  10. Can anyone recommend a good lens for medium range fish portraits? I am doing a little project that has to do with photographing reef fish. I already own Nikon 16-35, Nikon 60 and Nikon 105 VR. 105 gives too narrow angle and 35 is too wide angle for my taste. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for the advice.
  11. Interesting: two reports in this thread about the moisture alarm/vacuum systems preventing catastrophic flooding, which is exactly wat the system is designed to do. However, in both instances the point of water entrance was through the same system's valve. I have got Nauticam D810 housing with the alarm/vacuum and use it, but I am not sure, if it is actually useful, or creates a problem and a solution for extra cost...
  12. The mantas are unbelievable! B&W one is the best in my opinion.
  13. I am selling Nauticam housing for D7000. PM me for details please.
