  1. If you have a look at the latest Underwater Photography magazine #65 you will see an entire article on the above lens and Olympus' housings. . . Bruce
  2. Hi Guys, I'm looking at buying the Nikon D90 because it is an upgrade to my D70S and will fit into my already owned Nexus housing. I sincerely doubt that the video function will ever be used, it just doesn't interest me at this stage and was not part of the selection process. Bruce
  3. Hi David, Long and expensive trip for an experiment? Wouldn't you be better off trying it out before getting to South Australia and possibly wasting some world class video action? Dunno, . . . . you might have better knowledge as to the expected results from your experiments. If I was lucky enough to see Mr White, I would like to know that I was going to 'nail' the shot!! After all, no need sh*^tting in your wetsuit for nuttin'.... Bruce...
  4. Geez. . . . obviously you have to 'be' someone to suggest something around here. . . . Bruce...
  5. Hi Edward, Great results. I have tried high shutter speeds before with my D70S and SB-800. I was able to use this system successfully but only with manual flash control. The system would not let me use i-TTL. The D70S is/has the CLS system and the D70S's flash can be used as initial strobe for fibre optic i-TTL sync, but the D70S camera itself doesn't appear to be able to do high speed sync with i-TTL? It does, however, have a normal sync speed of up to 1/500 which is the highest of all 'normal' sync speeds Edward, I would still like to continue my investigations into housing the SB-R200 flash. Have you any successful results, pictures yet? Bruce...
  6. Hi Don, I own and use Nexus housing/ports etc, and they have what they call a 'multi' port that is a large extension assembly that houses manual on/off and zoom/focus knobs. You then choose what port and extensions for the chosen lens. Very easy to use and robust unit. I believe that it was initially made for the Nikkor 70-180 micro and the 200 micro soon after? Nexus also make a small diameter wide angle dome port that would be very suitable for the dome port option of the current conversation. It is the WP-7. HTH, Bruce...
  7. Hi Sam, I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to get the fibre optics to work between flash housings ? You will need to drill and mount an Inon fibre optic window into the side of your Patima SB-900 housing adjacent to the sensor on your SB-900 flash unit. This is the method that I used to get my two SB-800 Subal flash housings to work without any sync cords. Works extremely well in i-TTL.... Bruce...
  8. I'm really hoping that when they say "Bahamas" that they are not in the same area as Jim Abernathy and 'Emma' ?? If someone will shout me an airfare I might just have 'the ticket' for The Ticket. . . Bruce
  9. Why can't these macho bastards do something creditable with their lives? Like donating their 'living' organs to the medical community. . . . Bruce ...
  10. Gee Ed, This is going to throw a cat amongst the bloody pigeons, but I have to ask. . . . If you were only shooting macro, which of the two rigs would you choose, and why? I only ask this because you have used both models, with considerable success and prowess. Bruce...
  11. Hi Guys, I'm looking to buy a Sea and Sea YS90DX strobe. I'm only after the DX model. Thanks for taking the time guys, Bruce
  12. Hi Wags, Very cool. BTW, just saw a Ningaloo special on the nine network; quite a backyard you have over there!!! Bruce
  13. Hi Ed, I must have missed your changeover to a different camera. . . . Any reason as to why you have moved away from the Canon line of compacts and the G10 in particular? The lighting on your new Lumix seems to be 'darker' overall when compared to your Canon pics, although your pics, as always, are simply beautiful. Bruce...
  14. Hi Guys, Has anyone compared the dimensions and 'pronounced' features of the new D3000 with any of the other Nikon bodies? I'm interested to find out if the body compares favorably with the D5000 or D60 or some other body that is already in circulation that has a housing made for it? It would be really nice if it slipped straight into one of S&S's new RDX housings. I don't know about a lot of other people's opinions, but I am more interested in a 'simple' DSLR with quality, sound features rather than the new direction of 'one box ticks the lot' cameras with stills, movies, surround sound, and whatever new arty-farty gismo's that they can think up next? Any opinions? Bruce...
  15. Hi Guys, I'm probably over thinking this issue, but if the camera takes a light reading while the focus light is on and then programs the strobes for a certain flash duration, for the taken reading, wouldn't the resultant flash cycle be too weak if the focus light turns off during the strobe cycle and this lighting is no longer available for the equation? I've often pondered this question. . . . and many others. Bruce...
  16. Hi Guys, I remember an image posted by Ryan Canon a short time ago of his new/current rig where he uses both strobes and two Fix LED focus/video lights. It seems to be a simple matter of choosing the correct lighting for the format, video/stills, being used? I would also assume a very costly solution? I'm sorry but I don't follow/understand John's posts as to the origional intent of this thread? Bruce...
  17. Hi Guys, If either of you are in Victoria and you need the lend of equipment, please just call ahead and I will have it ready for you. Bruce
  18. Hi Tom, If you really want to see Leafy Seadragons, and yes they will be in berry, then contact Carey Harmer at Sea Optics in Adelaide. He recently spent considerable time with the Hall family helping them film all of your listed targets for the latest IMAX film. Big Paulie, I don't know what you are after, but if you are looking at Western Oz, then the boy to talk to is 'Gudge'. . . . he posts here. If you are going east side then contact 'Aengus', he also posts here. I think he is some Irish git?. . . . And, again, if you want either of the seadragons in South Oz, give Carey a call. His knowledge is second to none. . . . period! HTH, Bruce
  19. Hi Stevie, It's nice of the airlines to still distribute these mens's interest magazines to all passengers. . . . . I hope that's where you found it. . . . Bruce
  20. Hi Sam, I'm really very interested in your results. Have fun with your new toy. I'm hoping that mine will arrive shortly. . . . BTW Buddy, how does the 'ready to dive' weight between the Patima SB-900 and Subal SB-800 combinations compare? Bruce
  21. Hi Guys, I have a small machine/engineering shop located right around the corner from me. I just go in and see 'John' and tell him that I want 'this' to screw into 'that' and then both of them to go 'there' and then politely ask him how long? Usually one week and the cost is a carton of beer. Surely there must be plenty of these little machine shops located right around 'your' corner and I'm sure that they would love a bit extra work at the moment. Machining is not rocket science, it just takes time and care. I have always checked 'Johns' work in the ocean during my next dive. I know his work is always spot-on. . . . . I hope... As long as the machinest has the male and female threads at his disposal to measure then there shouldn't be a problem? Bruce...
  22. Sugarfish, Length is 25mm according to Amazon spec sheet. My assumption would be that focus ring would need to be 25mm longer also??? Bruce...
  23. He's baack! This should show the ability of the LX3 to any prospective buyer. . . . Bruce...
  24. "To set the record straight, it was not your idea. The staff has been debating this for some time without your involvement. James is only objecting to your posts these days because your tone is often not respectful of others. " Hi Eric, It will take a lot of talking from you to convince me that openly allowing your admin to persue a personal attack on one of the forum members, through the forum, is a good thing that will instill confidence in other members and those new to the forum who wish to start posting? As for dis-respecting Jack Connick- Not True. I have every respect for Jack and in fact have quite often spoken to him in the past and asked his opinion etc., through PMs. As a matter of fact, you actually lean towards supporting my comments in your own posting. As for using the forum to dis-respect others, the only dis-respectful remark that I have made through the forum was to querie the 'eligibilty' of Aussie as a Moderator? His listing was an 'oversight' on your part, to which you posted after this less than tactfull enquiry of mine. . . . any other corresspondence by myself has been taken 'off' line and made through the proper channels. . . . I would like to think that, someday, I would be welcome back at Wetpixel, but at this stage, I'm too pissed off with certain individuals using their position to carry out un-warranted character assassinations. My "not respectful of others" approach was at least taken off line. I do not wish this to turn this into a pissing contest and respectfully withdraw myself from the forum. . . . With total respect to Admin and 'others', The Pheonix. . . .
  25. Hi Eric, I'm also leaving WetPixel. A great venture on your part and wish you well in the future. Thanks for the friendships and great advice guys. If my account could also be removed please? Bruce...
