  5. Come join us for our 10th Anniversary celebration. We have been offering this unique underwater photography course for 10 years, and now it's time to kick up our fins and celebrate a bit. We will continue to offer 3 dives a day, informative lectures and personalized instruction, but now there's even more. We will be offering prizes from our generous sponsors throughout the week. It will not be a photo contest, but rather each student will receive a raffle ticket and prizes will be awarded daily. This class is designed to help photographers learn the ins and outs of shooting digital cameras underwater. The Drafahls will help with all levels of underwater cameras from point & shoot cameras, to the more sophisticated digital SLR cameras. The activities during the week will include informative lectures, hands-on demonstrations, photo critiques, boat and shore dives, and plenty of time for answers to your questions. Since we want to maximize our diving time, all lectures will be held at 4:30 in the afternoon and additional lab time in the evenings in the roomy air conditioned classroom. Some of the topics to be covered are: digital camera operation, getting a good exposure, image resolution, proper lighting techniques, composition, macro tips, wide angle, white balance, RAW file conversion, image storage, databases, and basic image editing. digitalduo@jackandsuedrafahl.com (503) 842-9979 www.jackandsuedrafahl.com

  8. Starting this year we are holding two separate classes for the diving photographer joining us in Bonaire – one will concentrate on underwater digital photo technique and the second will help underwater photographers with their editing skills using Lightroom. We initially planned this for two different weeks, but several people wanted both classes and couldn't afford the luxury of two weeks of vacation time. So our solution was to combine it all into one week, giving divers several options to choose from. You can now take the Digital Photo Adventure ...or the Lightroom class....or if you are up for a challenge, you can sign up for both in one week. The Lightroom for the Underwater Photographer course is designed specifically for those who want to further expand their editing skills. Students will have the opportunity for up to 3 dives during the day, with lectures in the afternoon and additonal lab time in the evenings. Although the lectures will concentrate on using Lightroom, we will also show how Photoshop and Elements can be used in conjunction with Lightroom. Some of the editing topics will include: corrections for exposure, contrast, saturation, white balance, layers, masking, cropping, feathering, and removing artifacts from their images. Through the week, students will work on a 2-3 minute individual presentation that will be shown at the end of the week. The final shows will be created with Adobe Lightroom or ProShow Gold. Trial versions of both programs will be available for the students. For our 9th year we will also be offering our Digital Diving Adventure. Some of the topics to be covered are: digital camera operation, getting a good exposure, image resolution, proper lighting techniques, composition, macro tips, wide angle, white balance, RAW file conversion, image storage, databases, and basic image editing. 11. In addition to everything that has been said about taking care when loading your camera to avoid changes in temperature, you MUST keep a towel over any clear housing when out in the sun. This means taking special care to see your camera housing is covered by a towel (wet is better so that it doesn't fly off) when set it in the bow of the tender boat.
