  1. Hi Nathanm, You will be happy with Provo Turtle Divers, I was diving with them this past Sunday and I had a great time. Please let me know when you are here and if you want, you can join me for a night dive a Coral Gardens, it is shallow reef on Grace Bay beach but great for underwater photography. You can find sometimes squid, reef octopus, green turtles, etc... David.
  2. Hi Nathan, I normally dive with Flamingo divers, there are the smallest dive shop in Provo and they run a small boat but they don't take more than six to seven divers. The couple the run the dive center are great and they are very helpful with underwater photographers. The other dive shop I use is Provo Turtle divers, the owner Dave is an underwater photographer too and they run a great dive operation. Their dive boat it is bigger but very spacious. Big blue is a great operation too but their are more expensive. There are few more dive operations in Provo but i Had never dove with them. I hope this helps. David
  3. Here is mine, I took this photo on October in Elphistone. I didn't crop the image, after I took this photo with a Tokina 10-17mm it bumped my front port. It was a really cool experience swimming with the oceanics.
  4. Thanks for the Comments, The trip was on the Sea Light live aboard. The cave photo was taken on St.Johns area but I don't remember the name of the dive site. Thanks
  5. I don't normally enter photo contest, but two years ago I enter for the first time some of my images on Beneath the Seas. Few months after I was informed that one of my images got a third place on the macro category and I will receive a price in the next couple of months. After five months I didn't receive anything and I tried to email few times Beneath the Seas but I never got any responses. I would like to know if anyone had similar problems with this organization. Thanks David.
  6. This past October I had the opportunity to dive in Egypt, but this time I want it to explore the south side. The trip itinerary included diving in Saint Johns, Dolphin Reef and Elphistone. Saint John was great, there are not as many dive boats compare to the North of Egypt but I was expecting to see more fish. Dolphin Reef and Elphistone were amazing, lots of dolphins and the highlight of the trip was the very close encounters he had with the oceanic white tip sharks. This is one of my favorite images from the trip.
  7. I just read in the newspaper that the French frediver Loïc Leferme that holds the world record on the "No Limits" category at 171 meters has died during a training in Villefranche-sur-Mer. That is very sad news. David
  8. I just finished to do the edit of some of the photos I took couple of weeks ago at Crystal River, I really have to thank Carol Grant for all the help and helpful information, she is an expert about manatee behavior. Some of these photos were taken with the Nikon 16 mm and some with my new Tokina 10-17 mm, I really had a great time playing with this new lens, I found out that this lens worked better in low light conditions than my 16 mm but I really need to do some test because conditions at Crystal River were not great while I was there. Swimming with manatees was an amazing experience but a little challenging for taking decent photographs, the were not too many manatees when I was there and some times with lots of people swimming around. We went with Birds Underwater and they are truly professionals and very friendly staff. The only "bad" experience we encounter is that some manatee tour companies are quite "aggressive" and they tell people to move away because they want their guest to be with the manatees. Here are just few images from that amazing week...
  9. Great photo Ted! I love the Dugong with the diver in the background. You are right about the WA being harder than close up and macro photography but with practice you can get some amazing photos like the one you showed us. How did you liked the new Tokina 10-17 mm? I just bought myself one but I won't be able to use it until next week with the manatees in Cristal River, I can't wait. Thanks for sharing. David
  10. I'm going with Bird's Underwater in about two weeks. I had never photographed the manatees before and my I would like to know which lens would be the best choice, the Nikon 16mm or the 10.5mm ? Thanks David.

  13. Hi everyone, In the last couple of months I seen a lots of photos and trip reports from Bali and I was wondering if anyone had the chance to go diving to the neighbor island of Lombok? I saw on the internet that there are few dive centers on the Gili islands that are part of Lombok. I will be in Bali for almost a month and I know that there are enough good places to dive there but I would like to know if is worth the travel to dive there. Thanks David

  18. I am taking part of the Turks & Caicos underwater photography contest and I need to select my 5 photos for the contest. They are looking for photos for stamps and just looking at the last year winners I don't think they are not looking for "arty" photos, I think there are looking for subjects that non divers will recognize and at the same time will look good on a stamp. I have been taking photos for this contest for the last few weeks and I ended with few that I like but now is when I need to narrow them down to 5 images, Can you please help me out and let me know which five images will look better as stamps. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th Here are some more.... 11th 12th 13th 14th Thanks for your help ! David

  20. Hi, I just bought a Sigma 28-70 2.8D that I will be using with my Nikon D200 and Subal housing. I was told that you can use this lens with a flat port or with a dome port. If I use it with a flat port , I will loose 25% of the angle but it will work fine for fish portraits. Does anyone use this lens with the different ports? does it work better with the dome port or with the flat port ? I am going to Bali next month and I don't have any experience with this specific lens. Thanks for your help. David Gallardo
  21. Thank you Alex, What is the difference between the Nikon 60mm and the Sigma 50mm? Thanks for your help David
  22. Hi everyone, I have been thinking for the past couple of months on getting a middle range zoom lens. I have a Nikon 16 mm and the 105, and I will be traveling to Bali in about couple months. I thought about the Nikon 17-35 but I don't think I want to spend that much money for now, I saw that Sigma has a 17-35 mm f/2.8-4.0EX DG for 479$ and a 20-40 mm f/2.8EX for about 439$. Does anyone has any recommendation or experience with these lenses or any other Sigma. Thanks for your help. David
  23. Hi everyone ! I was wondering what will be the best setup to photograph the pigmy seahorse? I have a Nikkor 105mm plus a woddy diopter but I am not shure if this will be enough to frame the full body of the pigmy seahore. Does anyne have any recomendations? Do I will need a teleconcenverter? Thanks for your help David
