  1. Cover the letters and threads with black electrical tape.. common issue and discussed quite a bit on Scubaboard.
  2. This thread helped me a lot when creating cables for an Oly PT-EP08 housing & Inon strobes, I purchased the following: sourcingmap® 50Pcs 7mm x 1mm Nitrile Rubber O Ring FKM Heat Resistant Sealing Grommets Green https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MTO0US6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2.0mm Diameter Solid Core End Glow Fibre optic Cable https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-0mm-Diameter-Solid-Core-End-Glow-Fibre-optic-Cable/253875787484?hash=item3b1c2d16dc:g:b7UAAOSwu4BVv6nT 20pcs 27mmx7mmx4mm Micro Strain Relief Cord Boot Protector https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00XBG5U82/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I found that for the Oly housing you need to cut the length of the boot protectors in half approx... the rubber o ring was not required as the boot protector squeezes into the Oly enclosure quite tightly. The fibre optic cable is quite loose inside the protector so, to get round this, I used a small blob of polymorph to hold it all in place. I just cut the fibre optics with a carpet cutter with a new blade. They have survived 30+ dives fine. Looks like this: https://imgur.com/9quYUUN For the other end I was a little stuck trying to find the inon plugs, so made some out of 1/4" locline, polymorph and bungy, use a soldering iron to create the holes in the locline, like this: https://imgur.com/zOmuliU
  3. I’m primarily into wrecks, so: The Olympus 8mm FE is good for wrecks/lower vis as you don’t need to back off to get everything in frame. I found on ebay an Inon dome for a pen port and then added an AOI pen to OMD adapter to work with my PT‑EP08, no issues. This combination also makes for a small rig, without handles it’s almost like a compact (large) which can be clipped off to a chest d-clip. The Olympus 9-18mm is good for semi-wide angle reefs/wrecks but as folks have said, when you want the WA you need to back off and in vis of 3-5m your image will be obscured to a degree. If you have clear water, its ok. I purchased it as it was considerably cheaper than the 7-14 mm and I could get a cheap dome from the AOI range (AOI DLP-04P and adapter AD-LP-01). This was my go to lens until I got the 8mm. The plastic AOI ports are absolutely fine. When using the 8mm/9-18mm I don’t bother with a handle or strobe, just hold the case, however, when using the 60mm in the original PPO-EP01 port and a couple of Inon strobes, I add a nauticam flexi tray with an extra link to make it wider for the PT‑EP08. This way you can comfortably hold it with both hands in thick gloves & press the shutter release. BTW, you can add a 67mm thread to the PPO-EP01 front end, using an adapter a guy in ASIA makes… reefwreckandcritter. I’ve tried this with an Inon dioptre & 60mm but the depth of field is so shallow it’s put me off. So, look on ebay, second dealers like (MPB) and the AOI ports are good value, also choosing an older camera also makes for plenty of cheap spares.
  4. Yep, two small screw to stop the adapter twisting off the lens... the AOI adapter also works fine on my Inon dome lens.
  5. I'm cheap, I bought off ebay a reconditioned ASUS Vivobook E203NA for £130, it has Olympus Viewer and Open Office loaded, not the quickest device but coupled with a USB 3 hub, SD card and ext SSD drive it previews/stores images/videos fine... plus its battery life is excellent for the flight. LR will run but its painfully slow but Oly viewer is fine as is VLC.
  6. I used electrical tape over the lettering but found the textured edge of the lens still comes up occasionally... I'll try some more tape next time... fyi, this is discussed quite a bit on another forum...
  7. Model submarines uses motorised gears/servos, maybe they could be re-purposed? http://www.rc-sub-workshop.com/ListTable.aspx?tp=r&rid=8
  8. I don't mind buying non-OEM batteries, I don't seem to notice any issue with Ex-Pro batteries off Amazon. I can get ~280-300 shots out of a battery (No flash,EM5 W/A) which is more than enough for 2 dives in a day. Back in the room I'll alternate to the OEM one for day2.
  9. I belong to a club over in Amersham that has access to 3.8m depth diving pool, i'm in most weeks practising with kit.. i'm sure we can come to an arrangement. You'd have to bring your own subjects which is what I do.
  10. Anyone have either of these strobes they would like to part with? Prefer UK seller and not silly prices, cheers.
  11. I purchased one of these off Amazon this year for a trip, it's backpack only and after carrying between numerous connection flights/gates etc I too wish I had gone for the wheeled version. I was fixating on the reduced cabin requirements for Cebu Air and glad I did, the overhead bins were tiny! Anyway, I'd recommend the bag and would get the wheeled version if I travel again.. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00SN0RZ7K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I managed to squeeze in my Olympus housing, two bodies, two ports, three lenses, documents, netbook and sweets. The camera stuff was in three of these padded bags.. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KKIYQSE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  12. And yet another one... https://johnohuk.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/leak-detector-for-underwater-camera.html Bit of a work in progress... just trying to get it to fire the strobe as well..
  13. I purchased one of these ... 30 quid... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Large-Sized-Cooler-Bag-Picnic/dp/B00G9Z4EKM/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1498807541&sr=1-1&keywords=Large+Sized+Cooler+Bag+-+XL+Cool+Bag+Food+Drink+Picnic+%28Black%29
  14. I've an ep-08/em5 combination... my thoughts on the acrylic case: Never fogged, dived ice to tropics. It's light and good for hand luggage and slightly buoyant without accessories. Robust, seems ok, no issues. I choose this over Nauticam, purely on cost. The secondhand market for Nauticam bits seems a little more active, well it does on this website... Oly ports or rather AOI ones are pretty cheap so maybe this outweighs the lack of a secondhand market? Not sure about the stability issue... I wish I had a vacuum check/leak detector, seems a neat feature. I thought there was difference in button layouts and Nauticam being more ergonomic? I originally wanted to go Nauticam but didn't have the money, now, after owning the Oly housing for a year its fine and quite happy I didn't spend megabucks..
  15. To workout standby battery life measure current draw by putting a multimeter in series with the batteries, might be fiddly but should work(battery door off). Then compare against you're battery's mAh. I think your into custom case/extra battery and custom circuit's.
