  1. I just tested the latest rev of the YS-D3 in the shop with my Nauticam D850 and optical flash trigger board. I used a pair of Nauticam cables and set the board to YSD2 mode. It works fine, fairly rapid firing, TTL and manual control seems good. The only issue I saw was in Cl or Ch release modes where there was a slight hesitation. I think the camera was looking to see if the strobe had recycled. You can send the strobes into S&S here in the US and they can flash the pram. They told me that this does address Nauticam triggers, which are made by UWt. I have customers using these with Nauticam manual flash triggers on an A7III with very good results. Jack
  2. If you are using a TTL optical trigger board, they have two different settings for those strobes. The only way to fire them as a dual setup will be in manual. You need to set the board and the camera to manual strobe firing settings. Both require high-quality multifiber cords to fire consistently. Jack

  14. I have a demo Saga Dive Fiber Optic Ringflash made to fit a Nauticam Port 87 for a Nikon 105mm VR Macro Lens using a Sea & Sea YS-D1 or D2 strobe. Excellent and easy to use to get perfect, even lighting on very small critters. Use with TTL and almost no adjustments are necessary while shooting. This accessory concentrates the light through fiber optics, adapts to the flash head to guide the light through the fiber to carry it in front of the macro lens, it is ideal for extreme macro photography. The working range is what the magnifying lens allows us, approximately between: 2.5 and 10cm. The fibers can be retracted allowing the lens to be unscrewed easily, and ro change the illumination angles. This system does not oblige us to use only this type of lighting, since it is very easy to remove the flash from the support where the fibers are housed and use the equipment in a conventional way. By providing a circular light, we can compose the image either horizontally or vertically and we will have the correct lighting in difficult places where with a conventional flash we could not illuminate (cracks, holes, etc.). This has been used very lightly on a couple of trips. I have a review and photos here. Note: This will only fit the above port and strobe configuration, but can be used on Nauticam D7000-series, D800-D850 etc. Any diopter can be used as the fiber optics are adjustable in length. Strobes can be mounted off to the side or on top of the housing. A second strobe (conventionally mounted) can be used at the same time. TTL is not affected and works very well. This only includes the fibe optic adapter as shown below, port, strobe, diopters, arms, etc. are NOT included. These sell for about $900 new. $595 price includes PP or CC charges and Priority Mail shipping in the US. International shipping is available at cost. 15. The slight blur was mostly from very cloudy conditions. It would also improve if stopped down more. You can shoot the 7-14 with a 180 dome if you want, this was what I had.
  16. I think it's a very sharp and fast lens for that format. You do need to use a 170mm dome, port adapter and extension, so it's not cheap to house, but many folks love it for video particularly. You should shoot it stopped down some. This was shot at 7mm f/7.0. It has a lot less distortion than the 8mm FE obviously.
  17. Basically, why would you put an inexpensive filter in front of expensive optics?
  18. Saga domes all have a removable shade. It doesn't look like it on the larger domes, but it's a press fit with an oring holding it on. You have to leverage one side off at a time. It's been a while since I've seen a Saga 170mm (actually 165mm) dome, but I'm quite sure that the shade comes off with a little effort. Just sort of peal it off. A bit of grease on the oring will make it easier next time. Then it should work fine with the 8-15 for circular FE shots. Jack
  19. I would hope this also applies to UWP retailers to offer solutions and links to appropriate products and announcements within reason. We are as hard hit as anyone and many are small businesses.
  20. It's just held on with an oring. It might be pretty stiff, but will come off. Clean, lube it and replace.
