  1. Great shots, I really like the first two. Never saw a Tarpon up-close like that.
  2. Fantastic place, are those salt or freshwater caves?
  3. Nice images, I will try to ID when I get to my office, but if I can't, is it ok if I send the images to some specialist colleagues? Luiz
  4. Fantastic images as usual Alex! The photos were also picked up and featured by the top Brazilian news channel (Globo): http://g1.globo.com/ciencia-e-saude/notici...a-islandia.html
  5. This looks very different from the S. bartelsi that I saw before. I am still trying, and e-mailing some specialists. Will let you know when I hear anything back from them.
  6. Was the photo taken at the GBR?
  7. Thanks all, I think I will get the Dell 2410, good reviews and the same resolution as my old 23'' Cinemas, it's really silly that apple only makes huge 27'' displays now.
  8. Hey all, I am getting a new Mac Pro, but I just noticed that Apple doesn't sell 23'' monitors any more, only the huge 27''. I really like the setup I have now with my old Mac Pro, two 23'' cinema displays, so I thought I would try to continue on something like that. So, what do you guys suggest as good 23'' monitors for a new Mac Pro? Transferring my old 23's is not an option.
  9. I found the info for Rob Myers' guide, he sells apps for iPhone and iPad, here is the link: http://seaclicks.com/sea-store/
  10. Rob Myers has an iPad Caribbean reef fish guide, but I cannot find the link for it, I will post it when I find it. And I am pretty sure you can get a DVD version of Ross Robertson's eastern Pacific fish guide here: http://biogeodb.stri.si.edu/sftep/
  11. Hey all, still here in Saudi Arabia, took some nice shots the last few days, so here are some. Sorry, most of them are the book style fish ID shots, but that's what I do Maybe next time I come here I will try to be more artsy!
  12. Hi all, my flight out of Houston is delayed for just enough to make me miss my connection to Jeddah tomorrow. So it looks like I will spend the day in Frankfurt, what's good to do there? Also, I am taking Jeddah tips too, this was a last minute trip and I have no experience there, any tips are welcome! Cheers, Luiz
  13. Fantastic shots, I really like the wave breaking over the reef. So, is Egypt taking tourists again?
  14. Congrats, this is great! Now tell her to start thinking about grad school
  15. Quite frankly, after diving a lot with rebreathers, I think that our bubbles stress the fish much more than strobes do (with the exception of pygmy seahorses of course, that can be photographed by hundreds of divers per day and have nowhere else to go), so if some dive operator feels the need to ban strobe photography for the sake of keeping stress levels low, he is shooting himself in the foot as diving itself is much more stressful to the fish than photography. P.S.: I say that based on pure personal observation and my conclusions have no scientific basis.
  16. Nice sharp focus on those blenny eyes, great shots! But it would make it a lot easier for people to see it if you downsized the photos before posting

That was my impression too, but I sent them out to the experts anyways, will let you know.

Hey Cor, I will forward your photos to a specialist and ask what they think... But these guys are a nightmare!
  19. Fantastic image as usual, and yes, A. crockeri! What camera/lens? The cirri on the head are sooooo sharp!
  20. I think the tail color is probably a normal variation. There are not many pictures of juveniles of these guys out there, and every one is slightly different...
  21. Nice capture Bob! I know I saw the photo before too, but didn't remember who took it. Is the lizardfish eating a jack?
  22. It's a blenny, but very hard to tell the species, where was it photographed?
  23. First one is a Dusky (Stegastes adustus) and the second one is a Longfin Damsel (Stegastes diencaeus). I am not aware of any mimicry among these guys, but they do vary in color a lot between location, life stages and even mood.
  24. Ah... These are so hard without the specimen at hand, but I will send your photos to a blenny specialist friend of mine.
