  1. I switched my pelican case over to a Porter Case (AV kit model) and according to one site it weights 5lbs. I am not sure it would be big enough for a Gates housing but I use mine for a Patima Smart III housing and can also fit a lot of extras. This case also doubles as a cart to which you can stack your other luggage or cases and is the legal dimensions for a carry on. If you search on the web, you can find it for under $100.
  2. Have you looked at the Patima housings? I purchased the Patima Smart III housing for my Sony HDR CX550. It comes with an inflatable bladder to make it neutrally balanced and has controls on both handles ( you hook up which side works for you, also gives you a back up). This system allows for full control of your camcorder such as manual focus, iris, zoom, and white balance. I believe it retailed for about $1200.00.
  3. I too had a Sony SPK housing for my CX550, and after battling the way the viewfinder worked and having to add weight to it,I gave up and bought a Patima Smart III housing. Since I had ordered an Amphibico at the time they closed up shop I had to make another selection and found the Patima to the in the same price range at the Amphibico Turtle. (around 1200.00) I now have full control over the manual options on the camera which I didn't have with the SPK and the rear monitor makes framing much easier. It is a lot heavier than the plastic housing but like others have posted- should hold up better and not leak when freediving. The SPK was a great way to get hooked into underwater video but you are wanting to be able to have more control of the options upgrade to a housing that meets your price point.
  4. I ordered a housing from Submerge Camera in Mid April, Submerge has been keeping in touch with me through out this ordeal. The latest news from yesterday was that the sales person was in contact with the owner and their order was shipping out this Friday. They indicated that there is a new owner in the works. Also Submerge indicated that they will be an official repair and service center for Amphibico. Hopefully since I did purchase my housing with a company here in the states if for some reason the housing is not available, I will have options. Becky
  5. I recently ordered a housing with one of their dealers in the States and was told everything is backed up due to the vacation time, I guess it was plant wide???? I sure hope they start shipping soon, I am putting a trip on hold until the housing arrives.
  6. Have you tried to clean the heads? Since you had a moisture problem there might be some particles clogging it.
  7. It is now listed on Ebay along with some photos http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...T#ht_500wt_1156
  8. Lowered the price to1300.00 + S & H and I do take paypal. If you need to check my reputation, I have an ebay account under beckytv.
  9. For sale: A used Amphibico Dive Buddy EVO High Definition SE housing with a Sony HDR-HC7 camera. This housing is for either the Sony HDR-HC5 or HC7. It may work with other cameras that have both the LANC and the Sony 10 pin (D type) of connectors. $1500.00 for both plus shipping and insurance. I bought this and have not had a chance to use it and would rather get a housing for my HDR550. If you have questions or would like photos, please contact me. Becky
  10. I have an Amphibico Dive Buddy HD for the Sony HDRHC5/HC7 for sale if you are interested. Just send me a message if you would like more info or photos, I'll be listing on this site within the next day. Becky
  11. What I have done if the hotel has HDTV is to take the camera cables and plug into that. Recently I was at a resort with no TVs, so I already had my portable DVD player that I use on the plane to watch movies, it has a video input and a wide screen. I know it is not true HD but at least I can check the video levels, focus, and framing. I found this model on Ebay, I wish I could tell you the model but I loaned it out to. someone.
  12. Looking for a used UW housing for my Sony hd camcorders. I prefer electronic controls so both cameras would work in the housing. Also the housing need to have a monitor (unless is it a Seatool).
  13. Have you looked at the new housing that Amphibico came out with a few days ago called the Turtle. It looks very much like the EVO but doesn't come with the left handle or the flip filter but they can both be added. The price is what caught my eye at 1195.00. I also have the Sony 550 and have found some housings don't work well with it's wide angle but the Turtle looks like it has the same wide flat port that the EVO Dive Buddy has. Since the Turtle came out, I haven't been able to find the EVO for the 550 on Amphibico's site, so they have discontinued it.
  14. Me too Steve. I have been looking at the Amphibico Dive Buddy EVO Elite II for my Sony HDR-CX550 but there are no reviews that I have been able to find. I need to upgrade to a better housing before I leave for Belize in early June, I currently use the Sony housing that is rated only to 17 feet since I only snorkel but the husband will be diving so we need a better rated housing. Maybe someone will chime in with some info.
  15. I am new to underwater videography and already own the HDR CX550 and the housing I am considering is Amphibico Underwater Video Housing - Dive Buddy EVO HD Elite II Series for around 1500. I am only a snorkeler so I am looking for a small case and electronic controls that balance well underwater and the price is in my price range. Has anyone used this housing and can comment??
