I'd also recommend the Ikelite DS125. Not only for the reasons James wrote, but also because I just purchased the Aquatica A20 housing, sold my YS-120 strobes and bought 2 DS-125s. I also purchased 2 Manual Controllers and 1 Smart Charger. Now I am wrestling with the idea of getting a second Smart Charger or another Battery. I'll probably get a second charger since 3 batteries won't do much good if the charger dies on a trip.

Maybe the Ike 8" SE should have a 1.5lb fisheye shade to both balance the camera and protect the dome. Karl, is your rig so positive bouyant that it would float away without the 2-lb weight?

I would only like to by 2 ports for a housed 20D. One for the 10-22mm and one for the 100mm macro. If acrylic is the best choice, then this is fine for me. But if glass is the way to go, then I'm in for any reasonably priced option. How many buyers would be needed to make glass a reasonable option? Can we form a Wetpixel Power Buy?

I would think that while the camera would be toast, the CF memory would survive the saltwater bath. I checked the Internet and found the CF memory module surviving washing machines and an incoming tide. No reports of what happened if the memory was in powered camera at the time of submersion. Maybe someone could perform a little experiment for us ...

Canon EOS 20 D -please advise on lenses, port, strobe w/Ikeli

How important are focusing lights and targeting lasers? Is there any way to get eTTL-2 AND a focusing light AND targeting laser? I wish there was a strobe that combined the DS-125 with the Inon Z-220. Rick -
Most likely, yes, when it comes out. I just purchased the 100mm f/2.8 USM macro from B&H the other day...I get it Friday... Was about to be angry about this until I saw it's only $20...no big deal ~Matt Segal Hope your Friday was more successful than mine. My camera will not arrive till Monday at best. Somehow DHL and Ingram Micro managed to screw up a 2 day delivery. Dell refunded my delivery charge, but for the weekend, I only have a memory [card]. I went ahead and ordered the Sigma 70-200mm lens from etronics.com. I plan to get the Canon 100mm Macro and Tamron 28-75mm from 17th Street Photo and will order them in the next day or two.

I am hoping to have the 20D w/ 18-55mm lens this weekend or early next week. I ordered it from Dell Computers. The lens that I am currently planning to buy are Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX APO IF HSM and Tamron AF 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di Zoom for Topside. And I'm planning on getting the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and possibly the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM for underwater. I'm trying to get the best price/performance ratio on the lenses AND also work with lenses that others have found to work. Two questions: Is anyone planning on getting the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM? What range/distance will I be shooting underwater with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM? Is it something like 9 inches for 1:1, 1.5 feet for 1:2 and 27 inches for 1:3? I'm sorry if this is such a newbie question, but at this point, I only know how to (ab)use framers. Books on the subject are also welcomed. Also saw that Canon is giving rebates on Cameras and Lenses starting this Friday http://abesofmaine.com/rebates/canonslr.pdf

I plan to get the 20D some time before my next dive trip. I've been using a Nikonos V. One of the things that I did like about the Nikonos was the ease of choosing lens. With the 20D, there are lots of choices, but I think that I have an idea of where I will start. First: The small critters - EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Second: Reef scenes ??? - EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM or EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye. At the moment, I have no real idea. What is equivalent to the Nikonos 15mm? Would a zoom work? Third: Anglefish ??? - Lost again. Where does the cheese wiz go? Fourth: Sharks, mantas ??? - Wide angle zoom again? Well I have until June to get it together. And I hope that the price comes down and some of the announced lens become available. Until then, I appreciate all the advice on this and other forums. And I am taking notes on the equipment listed in members' signatures.

Hello all, I'm hoping that this forum will help me to move from 35mm to Digital Underwater Photography. A few years ago, I decided that once 8M Pixel DSLR cameras were more or less affordable, I would switch/add one to my list of items that I would have, but probably never fully master. I plan on getting the Canon EOS 20D and the things needed for macro photography. If things work out as plan, I will sign on for a Cathy Church (Digital) SuperCourse for 2005. (I did this in 2003 (35mm) and it was an awesome experience!) I would like to hear from anyone that is using an EOS camera for underwater photography or plans on using the EOS 20D. eTTL and SLR are new to me, so feel free to point me in the right direction. Lastly, I am now a full member of the 'where the hell are my reading glasses' crowd. I can no longer see the damn numbers on my Nikonos V Camera as my arms do not stretch to that length. Can someone in this crowd tell me what they are doing to be able to continue taking pictures? Braille is not an option. Thanks, Rick Levesque Aquashot II to Motormarine II to Nikonos V to Canon EOS (20D)? Homepage - http://pages.sbcglobal.net/waja (Underwater photo attempts)
