  1. Reading the article and looking at the camera, it seems to me a sort of Nikon RS 2.0 made with Red camera? http://24x7.com.au/3Deep/index.htm
  2. Other manufacturers published prices for their upcoming housings already. No one had a steep increase like Nauticam. We will see. Regarding port and lens adapters I see several different solutions in you photos. Except smc and cmc, are DIY or custom adapters?
  3. The film heavily features underwater scenes, actually filmed underwater with the cast in a new form of aquatic performance capture. Blending underwater filming and performance capture such as this has never been accomplished before, it took the Weta team a year and a half to develop a new motion capture system. https://www.fxguide.com/quicktakes/avatar-the-way-of-water-does-it-seem-it-was-worth-the-wait/
  4. Here you have several examples of shallow focus shots. GH5S + Lumix 12-35mm F2.8. From 40" onwards. My buddy is a pro!
  5. It's a pity that Nauticam didn't use the "cinema" style also for the GH6 which is a camera totally video oriented. After so many years we are still victims of the Canon lock-in. https://www.nauticam.com/collections/canon-mirrorless-housings/products/na-r5c-housing-for-canon-eos-r5-c-camera
  6. Gear type and usual shooting environment would help
  7. Well, video, like underwater photography, has some very specific and simple rules and yet I don't seem to see as many photos out there as Alex Mustard or video like Howard Hall. The relationship between framerate and shutter speed is a rule that affects moving objects. On Youtube you can find many examples of how to respect or break it. For the rest you adjust everything manually taking into account the limits of your equipment. Usually only those who have no reason to worry about ISO are concerned. ISO paranoia is a BS inherited from underwater photography but let's say that yes, you try to keep them low compatibly with the aperture. The claim that you can't use apertures below F8/F11 with the WWL-1 is also photographically derived paranoia. In video, ISO and aperture have a different impact, i.e. they are less binding than in classic photography.
  8. Effectively the WB is crap but I do not think it is irrecoverable, in fact I've seen worse and this seems anything but irrecoverable. More than anything else I'm amazed that the camera doesn't have a meter while shooting video. Sometimes the devil is in the details. I've said it before, I've always worked in AWB with Panasonic but all my videos are shot under 50 meters. Yet I have plenty of clips at a few feet with a mix of ambient/artificial light that are perfect for my taste. I wonder what the Z7 II clips would look like on the wreck if shot in AWB. However, I understand your concerns. I personally wouldn't be a guinea pig with that kind of financial investment. The Z9 may be a monster but Nikon is new to the underwater shooting game so IMHO Canon all the way. To say, Sony has been in the game forever and yet not only does it not seem to have solved its problems with underwater video color but it also seems to not give a damn (we are still a small niche). Despite Backscatter claiming in their reviews that the A7SIII is the first camera to have completely solved its problems with underwater video color, just yesterday I came across this video. I have to say I was blown. I've seen very nice videos shot in Log here but it always seemed like overkill when a simple flat profile would suffice. TL;DR Buy Canon
  9. https://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?/topic/69172-nikon-z9-for-underwater-image-makers/&tab=comments#comment-437849 Since Adam only talked about the photographic features of the z9, it's worth mentioning that two days ago Nikon released a software update that all the specialized sites don't hesitate to call epochal. It's basically like having a Z9 II. There are a lot of specific features for video that Nikon seems to take very seriously and also several features regarding the photographic autofocus. For video The most incredible thing is the ability to record RAW 8K@60p directly on the internal CF Express card also has a new 4K mode above sampled by the 8k sensor. However I leave you to the article of PetaPixel that summarizes the news. https://petapixel.com/2022/04/13/nikon-z9-update-is-so-big-it-could-have-been-a-whole-new-camera/ P.S. On 20th of April Nikon will release an update for Z7 II and Z6 II with better autofocus performance.
  10. I'm not questioning that, but the question we're all asking here is: given Nauticam's fantastic engineering, what justifies a 30% to 60% price increase? They were fantastic before too :-) 2 weeks ago, at a trade show, I played with the new housing for the GH6. It's pretty much identical to my GH5 only slightly larger but costs over 1000 euro more. To be fair the NA-GH5SV already had this increase but the product is identical.
  11. @Phil Rudin is there a patent on the WWL-1B attachment?
  12. Guys though, the thread should not become a Nauticam bashing. I don't think it's become the most used brand of underwater housing in the world because of a deal with the devil. Everyone has their own preferences but there is no doubt that it is currently unrivaled in optical solutions.
  13. My buddy has a very nice GH5 Aquatica housing but... to use the 7-14 he has a 9" dome. Unbearable. If I can find a way to mount my WWL-1B with the 14-42 on an Aquatica port, I'll make the switch right away.
  14. On Tuesday, April 12, the first two episodes of a new documentary series on the Mediterranean were aired on France 2. On April 19th the other 2 episodes will be aired. The series consists of 6 episodes. Two extra episodes are dedicated to the making of and the scientific research behind the making of the series. From what I've seen, we're at Blue Planet levels. If you speak French or, like me, are simply amazed by the spectacular images, the entire series can also be viewed online at the France 2 website. The geographic protections are easily bypassed. The series is co-produced by RAI, Radio Televisione Italiana, and I hope that it will soon be visible in Italy and that at least an English subtitled version will be published. What can I say, the French together with the English prove to be the only ones able to support such expensive productions. And they still have to release two films with Laurent Ballesta...
  15. Did it work as intended? Could you show the rear part of the cover, has it a velcro? About its weight in water... Anyone know if there is a buoyancy difference between the original WWL-1 (with the foam collar) and the new alu one? Thanks
  16. Are you going there now? I was several times in Masa Alam in this period and IMHO a drysuit is mandatory. But I'm a Mediterranean man Be prepared fro strong wind anyway
  17. Andrei, I completely agree with you. Here are some of my personal considerations. A housing is an accessory of a camera and unfortunately its price has always been proportional to the price of the camera body, regardless of its possible complexity. Nauticam is adapting. There is an increase in the price of raw materials worldwide. Aluminum has increased by 50% in one year. Actually, the cost of the material in something as complex as an underwater housing I think affects virtually nothing. But Nauticam has increased the price of all its housings. The original GH5 cost less than 3000 euros. The GH5SV and GH6 4000 euros. For comparison, the new Aquatica GH6 costs 3000 euros. IMHO Nauticam is reaping the benefits of becoming a market monopolist. It's a shame that this all comes immediately after I sold all my ports and lenses and switching to WWL and CMC.
  18. Just email your local Nauticam dealer or Nauticam directly. They could just send you a replacement part for free. That wheel is really simple to swap for yourself.
  19. Ah, i was looking under the port menĂ¹. Thanks
  20. In short, I've stirred up a hornet's nest with these questions. Cross-referencing your links and the translator, I don't think I understand what a "lug ring" is. I was looking on the Aquatica website at their ports but I didn't understand what kind of attachment they have and I couldn't even find a port chart. Among other things, it seems that their M43 line has been tacked on to the site in a cheap way.
