Driving (and diving) from Mackay to Brisbane?
Moose replied to Moose's topic in Trip Reports and Travel
I guess one option would be to drive to Airlie Beach and take a two-dive day trip from there, but that would add another four hours in the car. -
I will be driving from Mackay to Brisbane, starting either Thursday night or Friday morning. I need to be in Brisbane by Saturday afternoon. Naturally I would feel pretty silly being in the area without getting at least one dive in. Considering my time constraints, any suggestions for maximizing my dive experience? I'm thinking probably a boat from Mackay, Gladstone or Bundaburg would be the way to go, assuming there are some good sites not too far out. Also, any recommendations for good shops/operators to call would be appreciated. Thanks!

As the topic states, I would appreciate thoughts on installing the Vivid Housings Leak Sentinel V3 with 5mm adapter on my Ikelite 6871.03 (Canon 5D mk III) housing: http://www.vividhousings.com/leak-sentinel.php I have sent an e-mail to the manufacturer, but I'm guessing Miso doesn't work over the weekend, so I thought I'd ask here as well as I'm anxious to try it out in the tub before I leave on Monday. The recommendation I have seen is to replace the Depth-of-Field Preview control. However, the Ikelite 5D mk III housing does not have a control for DOF Preview: http://ikelite.com/web_two/can_5dmarkiii.html Which control should I sacrifice instead, considering that I have the 5 mm adapter? The Lens Release control is looking like a good candidate, would that be the best choice? (And more importantly, will it work?) Thanks in advance!

I'll be flying Cathay Pacific from Copenhagen to Sydney via London in two weeks in Economy, not sure how I'll manage dive gear plus camera plus housing plus suit and shoes for a wedding, besides everything else I'd like to pack for a month on Australia. Has anyone managed to check an extra piece of "sports gear" luggage for a reasonable price on Cathay? The per kg price on their website would mean thousands of dollars for an extra suitcase.

Just ordered one, can't wait to try it out on my Ikelite.

I have been diving for almost ten years and dabbling in photography on almost every dive. Equipment has been upgraded bit by bit, and I have recently been getting a lot of practice on land. I'll be doing a lot of diving in October, and thought it was about time I stopped trying to figure everything out on my own and get some inspiration from people who know what they're doing (that's you) before the trip. I just signed up, only to realise I actually already had an account created two years ago. Besides diving and photography my interests include horology, so naturally my photos tend to include both marine life and watches. I guess pictures are worth more than any number of words, so here are a few introduction shots:
