  1. Hi all, I recently purchased a Canon 70D setup for reef ecology research, and the cheapie housing I have doesn't reliably trip the shutter, so I'm looking for a legit housing. My budget is 1k (absolute max) if I pay with cash, or if you've been looking for a way to support coral reef research, you can donate a setup to the project and get the full value as a tax write off! The project uses underwater imagery to discern the nonlinear feedbacks in coral reef systems - something we currently know nothing about, and that is fundamental to understanding why some reefs recover/strengthen from disturbance and others shift/weaken from it. The ultimate goal is to train recreational divers how to collect this imagery so we have more and better data for understanding the nonlinear dynamics of coral reefs in the future. Happy to share the complete project information with you if you're interested in donating a setup! Thanks for your consideration!

  12. ha jc! rob told you!! it is a GREAT strobe and i sadly hadnt charged it for a few years before a few months ago, so a few months ago is the last time i charged it, and i only had it plugged in for a couple of hours. i know that is infidel talk on here, but i have yet to figure out how to mix my style of travel and diving with my monster rig!! thank you both for the info!!
  13. hey y'all, i forgot the rules about charging these old ni cad batteries and am wondering if anyone has or knows where i can find a manual for my ys 350 (no, its not up on sea and sea site). or, if you have any idea what the guidelines for charging are (should i empty before recharging, is it damaging to leave plugged in past full charge, etc.). any idea how long a full charge would be? does anyone have one of these and know of a secret indicator light for a full charge? thanks!!!
  14. SUPER photo! i prefer the first for brightness and like the bubble too. second one is too dark on my computer. i really love this shot!
  15. does anyone know of any excellent books on diving around all of australia? ive never seen one that talks about anything more than the reef...maybe we can collate a bunch of trip reports (with permission of course!) and make our own?!
  16. thanks y'all! i should have mentioned i am specifically interested in a softer case but i like the thinktank idea!
  17. like most people, i hate my pelican, and am wondering what some alternatives are out there. i have a dslr and monster strobes..i used to carry the system assembled but its really too heavy and ive wacked it into inanimate objects a few too many times. thanks for your input!!
  18. I read about similar scams on this forum...but didn't think of it. I recently ordered a camera and lens package from expresscameras.com, and was charged for the battery and charger (it was still cheaper than others at this point so I didn't care). I was guaranteed delivery by wednesday and because I know my UPS guys routine intimately, when it looked like it wasn't going to arrive I called the company to ask what it's status was. They said they didn't have access to that information, and when I asked them why they told me the package was out for delivery. So of course, nothing arrives that day and the next day I call again and they say they're actually out of stock, nothing has been processed or sent and do I want to upgrade to the more expensive camera that is in stock. You might be able to imagine the expletives that followed, and while this isn't technically fraud it is really really annoying and no one else should have to put up with their crap. The end.
