Need guidance on a compact camera and housing
Mark K replied to Draq's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
I bought a Meikon aluminium housing for RX100III at around 500 price. Well built and brand new. A new housing for RX100 IV costs the same -
Thoughts on the Sony A7ii / A7rii
Mark K replied to mfrymus's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Having a 5Diii and a7rII, I will say photography wise 5DIII is a better bet in terms of faster shooting and better tracking. Everything else goes to A7rII -
New Sony a6300 - new housing?

It should be a more capable mirrorless from Sony. Given its relative small size...all sorts of housings are welcome -
New Sony a6300 - new housing?
Mark K replied to JustinBeevor's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
A6300 is actually a few mm thicker than a6000 so I doubt any existing housing for A6000 will fit A6300. Nevertheless, Mr Lai should be busy developing new housings for A6300, along those for Nikon D500, D5, Canon 1Dx. -
Having many mirrorless and dSLRs, my findings are very similar. However, there is a trend improving. At this moment or writing, I still think conventional dSLRs offers unparalleled focusing speed for underwater macro shooting

Brought CMC with my Meikon housing and found it is not compatible like Subsee.

Anyone have experience with Meikon Aluminum housing?
Mark K replied to Lwang's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
I believe I am the first adopter of Meikon aluminium housing. I got one for my RX100III. It is well built with high build quality. Personally it is much better than any other plastic Meikon camera housings I have. Just came back from a two day dive trip in Cebu, I am quite pleased with it. -
I have been with my A7rII for a month and two. DP review has just published their review I believe A7rII is the closest thing to replace an FF underwater dSLR. If you can use A7RII properly and get used to its AF system, you can save a lot of weight while traveling. However, if weight saving is not a priority, a conventional dSLR like D810 or 5Ds may be more rewarding than this small camera.

Any experience with the Sony A72 or A7r2?
Mark K replied to dfein's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
I have unfortunately been struggling for a much longer time. I have Nex6, A6000, A7, A7r and A7rII. A7rII is the closest thing to a dSLR. Provided the weight saving and money saving is significant, I stand strongly at the DSLR side for a better investment. This is because of the short battery life and (still) slower AF acquisition comparing my A7r to my own D800 and 5D3. The cost of owning a housing along with ports is almost the same...or even worse as discount for housings for D800/5D3 is huge. -
Wow...that's what I have been dreaming of...just got my A7r II... BTW, the low light focusing ability of A7rII is still behind that of D810 or 5D3...so...video lights need to be placed somewhere on the housing along with two Ions Z240s

Sony E-mount cameras underwater

Phil Thanks for sharing. -
Phil Thank you for the explanations
-
Phil.....since the total cost of owning a housing with ports is the same..so if slow AF is inherited from A7, then I should not invest on A7R2's housing
-
Just gone mine today and mounted it on a6k. The speed of 90G is not that fast, comparing to my 5D3/d800 macro combo.

Dear David I noticed one version actually takes four AA batteries and I started to wonder, if AAs are better than LiOn batteries. For one thing I am very sure that AAs work wonderfully for my Inon strobes but for video light, I strongly have doubt because of the working voltage and other physical properties.

I love using afs versions instead of these two older D versions. Personally I found afs is sharper and the color more saturated

a6000 lens for underwater + underwater case
Mark K replied to eman's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
At the edge of my Nauticam A6K housing purchasing, I had unfortunately some heart problems. At that time, local dive shops are all persuading me to buy other dSLR housings instead of A6k because Sony housings are not available but dSLR housings had been always there. I had to give up the ideas of using heavy housings and instead, we, a group of three A6k housings from Meikon. Newer housings from Meikon like this one look and feel much better than their early products. Build quality is much better with a leak detector. However, the fixed port only accommodate 16-50 and 30f1.8. Their measurement before I placed my order suggested the port being compatible with 30 macro and it turned out to be wrong. -
You should find your answer in the mirrorless forum. Your choice is obvious correct. Nauticam offers the best options for A6k
