I thought I would quickly share my experience using a Sony a6500 underwater. I am using: Sony a6500 in Nauticam housing with Sola 3500 and Intovatec 2500 lights. Zoom - Sony 18-55mm lens in N85 Flat Port 72. Macro - Inon UCL for macro in M67 Flip Diopter Holder. Wide - Sony 10-18mm + Zen Underwater DP-170 Fisheye Dome Port The video here has mostly a6500 footage (0:23 - 3:16): Pros: Having IBIS in a6500 helps to stabilize footage vs. none in the a6300 Using Sony lenses with OSS helps even more Fast autofocus works really well for UW video - especially when subjects move a lot I could get 3+ dives without changing batteries using the Nauticam 2,500 mAh battery pack. Cons: The Sony UW white balance sucks and always need to be corrected in post-production (I use Premiere Pro CC Lumetri). The 4K (3840 x 2160) 30 fps would be better at 100 Mbps and not 60.

Nauticam Battery Pack Problem - A6500

One thing I forgot to mention, I tested the $12 battery I found on Amazon (see post above) and it stays active all the time. -
Nauticam Battery Pack Problem - A6500
Colin Snow replied to jgttrey's topic in Shooting Technique, Workflow and Editing
I got my replacement battery and just did a dry test. After 3 hrs and 15 min the battery while attached to the camera is still "awake". I tried to simulate a real-world scenario where you attach the battery, close the case, go to the dive site (1-hour journey), and turn on and use the camera. I turned the camera on and off several times - including starting and stopping the video as I would do underwater. At one point I left the camera on for 20 min. As noted by jgttrey above when the camera is on the LCD is always on. At any rate with all that testing, the external battery was still awake providing power. I'm satisfied. I'll be pairing it with DSTE 1950 mAh NP-FW50 replacements. I'm hoping the combo should be enough for a 3 dive day. -

I found this battery for $12 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M19ZRKZ/ It's a snug fit, but it works. See pics below. I also ordered the USB Battery Pack Keep-Alive Load Kit (link above) and this USB 2.0 Extension Cable-Right Angle A Male to Female- 3.9 Inch(10 cm) for $8 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRW713L/ I'll give an update if it works and fits. - Colin -

Thanks for the update. I am wondering if this USB Battery Pack Keep-Alive Load Kit would work. http://swling.com/blog/2017/03/usb-battery-pack-keep-alive-load-kit/. What do you think? -
Nauticam Battery Pack Problem - A6500
Colin Snow replied to jgttrey's topic in Shooting Technique, Workflow and Editing
Thanks for your write-up. What a hassle! I just got this housing but not filmed with it yet. At $60 a pop, this is a serious oversight by Nauticam. Perhaps you can write them and report back here their response. -
I have one but not shot with it yet. I'm still saving for the vacation after buying it, a Nauticam, and Zen port for the 10-18mm.
