  1. Hi Davide, I agree - the battery life of the GH5 isn't at all like the GH4 and GH3 - its not as good, I think a combination of the IBIS and processor has played a factor.
  2. Gearbow and Adam, This isn't probably what you want to hear, - but hear me out I've been there, done that, spent a fortune, and I'm still forever chasing optimal image quality (from newer cameras, more powerful lights, more lights, filters, to external recorders to raw enabled BM cameras) and in the end, it's all back down content - some of the best video I've taken was with my Hero 7 a couple of years back if I"m honest. I just watched your cave video on my 13" MacBook and for interest I also watched it on my LG 4K SuperUHD TV (note: not a OLED) and I think it looks amazing - could have been NatGeo. I was really getting hung up on video quality when it all just gets watched in a video on YouTube or on a mobile device. Agreed the WWL-1 combined with the 14-42mm II is the best combo for the GH5, I would even ride the aperture at let it go to f3.5 (that's f7 DoF eqv - if not greater with the WWL-1) Intercepter wrote about the WWL-1 being afocal also. I'm sure Wet lenses increase the DoF also. But in the end - it looked great from here, would love to dive caves myself one day.
  3. To be honest, I think the m24 port that Nauticam have developed is a great solution and due to the size will be future proof for inbound 8K cameras and all the stuff going forwards. Its just a shame many are stuck with M18 with cameras potentially limited by it.
  4. Hi Alex, I feel your pain! Having the NA-GH5 (M18) and the NA-Flame housing for my Atomos Inferno - also M18. Having gone through the expensive of getting them upgraded to M24, I was very intrigued why also. a) Physically a HDMI 90' Plug won't fit in a M18 hole - tried it, even a normal flat plug won't fit b) HDMI Mini and Micro plugs aren't all that compatible with signals past 14Gbps - so they don't support 4K or 4KDCI @ 60p at 10bit. It's not just Nauticam's issue, I tried trouble shooting the issue with so many different cables, adaptors etc to see where the issue lay, only thing that work was full sized plug based cables - I didn't find one micro to full sized hdmi cable (even if marked as Premium HDMI) that would work, even using a simple micro > full adaptor. So the only why for Nauticam to provide us with support for these new 4K and higher signals was to completely move to a straight-through, full sized 'Premium HDMI' cable - even adding breaks in the cable can degrade the performance rendering a cable not compatible with 18Gbps. 5. Looks great! Good choices now if you are coming from m43 or canon to BM as both BMPCC’s are nice. Real shame they went EF and didn’t licence the newer canon mount. The image quality ( ignoring resolution for the moment ) seems very similar between the BMPCC4K and the BMPCC6K, the 6 does seem to have better shadow recovery - but it’s super close especially with colour and highlights. In regards to Resolution. I was really shocked how much more resolution you get with 5.7 / 6K frames compared to 4K, and downsampling those to 4K you are getting more colour info per pixel. Nice it have and like you say some cropping ability in post too. Would love 6K on my BMPCC4K!! However it seems 6K S35 underwater comes at a cost. The total cost of getting the 6K underwater compared to the 4K when you factor in the cost of the WACP vs WWL1, the $1000 difference in body and optics, I’m sure is probably going to be towards $5k in cost differential. Ouch. Plus there is the issue of the S35 crop and not utilising all of the WACP benefits. Defo want one / more resolution! But a few gotchas and price issues not making me want to drop everything for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It’s a bit of both to be honest. Having a screen at the same plane as the handles is never really an optimal setup, so as I do have the inferno already from the GH5 setup. I do benefit from the much better ergonomics, monitoring tools, plus it’s buoyancy and balance (in pitch and roll) in the water is perfect. However saying that, if I didn’t have the inferno already then I would probably not bother with the big expense of a monitor and housing, yes it makes the whole setup a much nicer experience but costs wise it not worth it if I had to buy again. Defo don’t need a monitor - but it’s hard to go back once you do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I’m of the understanding that a BMPCC6K housing is in the works. (From a comment I read on FB). The BMPCC6K is truly an interesting camera, I’m shocked how much more resolution it has over 4K. It’s has been shown to be a good couple stops better in low light recovery (see the Cinema5D DR tests) than the BMPCC4K but overall they are very similar in colour and DR if the exposure is same - nothing I’ve seen to be night and day differences. I see a lot of people buying the 6K to replace their 4K, but end up selling on, as it seems 6K is massively data intensive, for the end results to end up back on 4K timelines and 4K deliveries to YouTube / Vimeo etc. Alas I actually feel for underwater and my type of shooting the m43 mount size is a better bet. Can make use of the detachable WWL1, given you amazing versatility uw, has greater DoF at the same aperture etc. Not sure why we are all going FF for video (thinking S1H and the like) as for documentary / wildlife style shooting, I really don’t want to be anywhere near f2 or shallower, have hard enough time getting focus now. Really haven’t used it my as much as I had hoped TBH. Paired with my Inferno. It’s a joy in the water. if I’m honest the GH5 is a much more rounded system for the hobbyist and I should of been happy to stick with that (and it’s why I’ve also kept it) but man I wanted a play with raw shooting :-) Any questions, fire away. 8. Can't see this fitting the current NA-BMPCCII housing. Not sure I would want it. If you want a monitor, get something to sit above the camera, at a more natural viewing angle. BMPCC4K getting a FW update soon to enable 2.6k at 120p which will be interesting. Haven't dived my much (too much damn work!) but love it so far.
  9. For Sale: Nauticam M16 Offset Vacuum Valve As per backscatter listing: https://www.backscatter.com/Nauticam-M16-Offset-Extension-with-Vacuum-Valve-wi Will post up photos of actual unit later. In used condition, works perfectly, will come complete with vacuum pump. Location in Spain, happy to ship EU. Looking for 130e + postage.
  10. Sorry for the delay in answering. You will need to replace the NA-GH5 with the NA-GH5SV to obtain access to the new M24 port - no modifications available. At this time I don't believe there is any trade-in options going forward. I've now upgraded to the GH5SV housing and I've had my existing (NA-FLAME) Inferno housing modified by Nauticam to the new M24 port - it required re-drilling and anodising to access the M24 port connector, I now have access to the newer / stronger Nauticam HDMI cables and they are easy to remove for transport and replacement. Kudos to Nauticam on the new cabling - they have a longer warranty on them too! I now also gain the ability to use 10bit @ 4K60 to ProRes with the GH5 / GH5s - however that wasn't my primary goal (as I have a RAW enabled BMPCC4K) - my goal was to get the bigger port and more robust cabling. I am not sure what upgrade programs are in-place worldwide, you will need to speak with your local Nauticam Rep, as different regions may provide different options, but I don't believe there is any straight NA-GH5 > NA-GH5SV upgrade paths. Agreed it looks slowed down - Looks like the standard 60P down to 30P (or 24P) trick. Nice thou!
  11. Yeah found a few good offers around £40-£50 on ebay, but need one in 2 weeks max. - Ordered one off ebay with expedited delivery - says 6 business days. fingers crossed.
  12. Howdy All, On the lookout (UK or EU) for a Lumix DMW-FL70 flash unit for the GH5 if anyone has one laying around.
  13. Do mean you have the MWL-1 flip, or the standard M67 filp? Great news! Even owning the bayonet system, having it on a flip would be much more preferable.
  14. We will see, I'm assuming as Alex has all the goodies to hand, he knows. The only thing I can see, is we might need to cut a groove out for the rear of the foam, for the closing clip to latch on.
  15. I've spoken with Alex at Nauticam UK and he thinks the above flip holder will hold the WWL-1 (and float collar!) due to it using the same screw hole placement as the MWL-1 and the arms/joint being longer than the normal 67mm flip holder. I've ordered one - hope it works!
  16. Are you talking about the Double Flip Holder for MWL-1 #86222 ?
  17. The Inferno (NA-FLAME) is also getting the M24 port too. Will post up about the new GH5V and revised Inferno housings shortly....
  18. One thing I did was go Pelicase - but go bright. Went for the Paramedic Orange colour, if that gets stolen it’s gonna be very visible! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. My Nauticam GH4 housing and WWL1 worked as normal at sub 100m diving the wreck of the Zealot in the Red Sea, didn't notice any issues with any buttons or functions. (apart from my brain)
  20. Yeah - snap. Its just the left hand side (that werid eh!) What lens were you using? (I was using the PZ variant of the 14-42mm with the 29mm port, I've yet to try the Mk2 14-42mm with the 35mm port)
  21. My first underwater camera was a Casio EXILIM EX-Z1000 back in 2007. It was a very last minute purchase at Curry’s at Healthrow Airport for a dive trip to Thailand. I think it was £320 or something with the dive case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Finally got out and dived this weekend with the BMPCC4K. Was mainly shooting ambient lighting in 8-25m of water with no filters or lights. I got a couple of shots with lights, but haven't look at these yet. So fair I was impressed with the housing handling (button layout probably not as good as the GH5 housing if I'm honest - would be nice to have the AF button on a thumb lever, more than a push button on the rear) but button layout is good enough. I purchased the hand strap, but this is not good combo, as you need to move your hand to reach the front dial to change aperture, so took it off as it got in the way. Screen, in shallow waters, it was hard to see, the focus assist (when you could see it) was very clear, and I found, once I had focused it initially at the beginning of the dive, I didn't need to touch it again. Getting a bit deeper, the screen was lovely, with a clean layout and no lag. Looking forward to adding the 7" atop for better ergo with a deep hood. Buoyancy needs work, as I was a bit negative and front heavy, but as I found in the pool with the inferno it should balance out nicely. Really impressed with the highlight handling, close to the surface it didn't blowout the surface like my GH4 and GH5 would have. Colour handling very similar to the GH5, obviously it can't restore what isn't there, but no banding or compression issues either when playing with the colour wheels and channel mixer in Resolve. Q0 at 60p 4K DCI was no problem with the Samsung T5 drives, no dropped frames or issues. The HFR button is a real nice feature, you tell the camera you want to film in 30p and the HFR button will switch to 30p/60p - but on import to Resolve, it will automatically mark the 60p clips for slowdown. Nice. A few clips I had a quick look at and play with last night. Need to spend more time with Resolve (as I'm used to FCPX) but happy with the results so far. Will post up some straight from camera BRAW files later today / tomorrow for anyone interested. (They are huge mind..) One BIG issue which has reared its head, is due to the camera not doing any in-camera lens corrections (one of the reasons I wanted the BMPCC4k) - the side petals of the WWL-1 are visible in shot shots (I presume due to the OIS in the lens moving) so a slight crop-in (in-post) is needed. I haven't tried it with the OIS turned off - but something to consider. Overall, from my initial dive, I'm super pleased with the camera and what Nauticam have done with the housing.
  23. Backscatter Flip System if you are just starting out. On my last trip where I couldn’t take my GH5, I quickly picked up a Hero7 and the Backscatter Flip system the week before. The build quality of the flip system is very good and the filters (I think I got the dual flip one) did the job at shallower depths - I was pleased with the colours it produced. No need for glass filters. However I would recommend sticking with no filter (so you aren’t subtracting any light) and even adding a couple of good video lights for deeper (sub 20m) dives Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I can't think of a reason to keep the 7-14mm if you have the WWL-1
