I have the same question in mind, actually. As for the WB, I rely on the post processing, but thanks to David for the image. I'm just about to practice this one.

I always zoom-in in Macro, and always zoom-out in wide angle. But still depends on my distance.

Diggy is right, it makes focusing easier and faster. I also use focus light in macro, but not on the brightest time of the day.
