  1. I'm currently planning my February trip (I know, I'm sort of late) - originally I wanted to join a photography workshop, but it looks like that's not going to happen. So I was thinking of going to Bali for a week and taking as many pictures as I can there. I assume many of you have been there before. Any recommendations for places to stay, who to dive with?

    Thanks!

(Also, if you end up saying 'nooooo, go to $place instead' I won't be unhappy. :))

  2. One thing to consider is that external harddrives are a LOT cheaper than internal upgrades on Macs, and with new Macbook Pros (even Airs, but don't get that for editing, too slow) you get the Thunderbolt adapter, which is very fast - faster than any hard disk you can currently get. You could get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236699&cm_re=thunderbolt_hard_drive_enclosure-_-22-236-699-_-Productand never worry about travel storage again, 4 times the storage of the largest internal drive at half the price. 233MB/s is also very reasonable for photo editing.

There's the additional bonus of it being usable on a new Mac, should you ever need one, and not being in the weird proprietary format for built in flash storage that Apple uses. And you could get a 13" Mac, which I consider to be enough for travel editing.

  3.

hmm does it actually fit ? as nauticam housing guide lists this one as Sony E-Mount only...and the 36132 is supposed to be for m4/3 (ie pana/oly)

As far as I know all Nauticam mirrorless housings use the same port size, so that should work.

  4. Nice collection, Tim.

Sorry to hear that your flights across Indonesia were an adventure. We never got a straight answer to the problems - and they continued when the rest of us got to the airport (we weren't all initially given boarding passes). My best guess is that the cancelling of half the group's tickets had something to do with a big group of local politicians and hangers-on, who were on the flight and came straight to the door of the plane in their cars. Not sure why they picked on our group to cancel tickets, though.

Here is a photo of my workshop group (lit with twin Inons!):

I agree it was a mighty fine trip.

    Alex

Wow. Drunk as I am (hey, it's after 12pm, don't judge me!) this gave me vertigo. I like it.

    Tim, I love the Wobbegong!

  5. If you want something close by I can only suggest a trip over to Oman; Extra Divers have a base in Khasab (Musandam), and while I haven't been there it looks amazing. Only 2.5 hours drive away. What I have done before is a safari on the Saman Explorer - the only dive boat in the South of Oman, you couldn't get much more peace and quiet, and you can hear the humpbacks sing during dives. Apologies for the not so great pics, it was my first trip with the E-M5 and generally very near the beginning of me taking pics underwater: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+FabianSchorp/posts/D3JhL2Vtguu

If you're willing to travel a little further: Ras Mohammed and the Strait of Tiran (near Sharm El Sheik) is 6.5 hours away and mind-blowing. Hurghada is about the same distance. And... Well... Male is a 4 hour flight.

  7. Hi there!

I'm looking at selling my EM-5 and the associated underwater gear. Everything is in perfect operating condition and has never been flooded or dropped or whatever.

    Complete list:

    Body:

    Olympus OM-D EM-5 (black)

    Lenses:

Panasonic Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 (with manual focus gear for Nauticam case)

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4

    Panasonic Lumix G Fisheye 8mm f/3.5

    Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8

    Olympus 40-150mm f/4-5.6 ED M.Zuiko Digital

    Underwater:

Nauticam NA-EM5 case plus frame (this one, great system... http://uw-foto.ch/images/product_images/original_images/3267_1.jpg) for attaching strobe arms

    Nauticam Macro Port 45

Nauticam 4.33" dome port (slightly scratched on one corner, so I'll just throw that in for free)

Original cost: ~$6200 (ignoring the dome port)

Total: I'd be okay with $3500 for everything (excluding shipping from Switzerland)

Let me know if you have an offer to make. :)

    Fabian

  8. Hiya!

I just got back from a trip to Daedalus -> Rocky Island -> Zabargad -> Fury Shoals, which gave me a lot of opportunities for taking pictures. I also had a new piece of equipment with me - a Nauticam SMC-1 super macro converter. Let me just say it like this: It's a challenge alright. But the results are beautiful, here are my favorite ones...

    Equipment:

    Olympus OM-D EM5

    Panasonic 45mm macro lens

    Panasonic 8mm fisheye lens

    Dual D-2000/ S-2000 strobes

    Nauticam SMC-1 on flip holder
