Who is excited about Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K?
Atobit replied to kc_moses's topic in Video Gear and Technique
From Fisheye Japan (http://www.fisheye-jp.com/'> http://www.fisheye-jp.com/it seems Nauticam has a plan to make an housing for the BMPCC 4K. For your reference Fisheye is the main Nauticam Japanese dealer. We may have to wait few more months before knowing if it’s really coming true. Anyway that’s a good news. Who is excited about Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K?

I have the camera since few days, at this moment with current firmware (5.2), while diving the only limitations I would see, as you can open the menus but cannot make any change without touching the screen : . You cannot change the recording parameters, like the resolution, the codec, what media to record on. . You cannot change the info display on the screen So those parameters must be fix before you put he camera in the housing. But you can still do: - Change/adjust the ISO - Change the shutter speed (useful if you assign one of the function button with a specific frame rate) - Make the white balance and adjust the color temperature (Kelvin) - Focus with the dedicated button, will only be at the center of the screen - Zoom (2x) - Play your clips - Record in high frame rate (60fps at 4K) - Activate/deactivate: . Focus peaking . Zebra About the frame rate, what can be done for example: - You set the camera at 24fps - You set one function button with a fps at 30 so while diving you can switch to one of the three fps value (24, 30 or 60 (HFR)) without touching the screen. Otherwise I found the camera easy and to be more simple to use that a traditional mirorless camera. The screen is nice and readable under the sun, although i would need to compare it with the SamllHD 502 Bright I have. Battery life is short compare to a GH5, it would be needed to connect a second battery to the DC connector, so you could you use both internal and external battery will diving. If an housing will be, I thing its going to be much larger than the one for the GH5 for example, as the BMPCC 4K is larger, you will need an external battery and eventually an external SSD. -

Today’s cameras produce very nice footage already and as the BMPCC 4K is supposed to have the same sensor as the GH5S, the difference will come on how BMD has manage their color science. Also despite the BMD camera looks like a hybrid camera, it is not one. It still have the original BMPCC heritage. You’ll have to learn how to work with it. What make me want the BMPCC is the BRAW for what you can recover in post, other than that the GH5S offer more practical feature for easy shooting. New Panasonic S1 & S1R FF Camera for Videography?
Atobit replied to Davide DB's topic in Video Gear and Technique
Only the SR1 could deliver 8K but did Panasonic said 8K on mirrorless camera? I think that's only for camera like the EVA or higher models. Also for 8K what media is needed? should need a very high speed, especially if you want 10bits. I think that's not tomorrow you'll see 8K on mirrorless camera. -
New Panasonic S1 & S1R FF Camera for Videography?
Atobit replied to Davide DB's topic in Video Gear and Technique
Ok anyway no hurry to go with any new “system” as only few lenses will be available for a while from any camera maker. Also no one have yet announced anything better than the GH5/S can deliver in term of codec, apart from Fuji with their XT-3 and Blackmagic with their BMPCC 4K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
New Panasonic S1 & S1R FF Camera for Videography?
Atobit replied to Davide DB's topic in Video Gear and Technique
Again a new mount announced in few weeks?!? Canon => RF mount Nikon => Z mount Panasonic => L mount That's all? Or Olympus will come soon with something ? Frankly this is a mess, we'll have to be stuck with on brand. or just keep buying EF mount that should be compatible with the three new comers. -
What a lens! Likely to cost around 2500 $US/EUR, higher it will not make sense for a M43 mount.

This is a nice work! This is too bulky to my taste. I’ll rather prefer changing the battery at each dive. Have you already had a test dive? Even in a pool? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Hi No issue with a GH5 and a smallHD 502 Bright monitor. Could be an issue with the hdmi cable? Claude Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

News: Atomos Ninja V - New 5” Recorder
Atobit replied to thetrickster's topic in Video Gear and Technique
As the Ninja V has only HDMI input it will not be possible to record RAW. As per today RAW data are only convey through a BNC connection. RAW data bit depth is limited by what the camera maker will allow to record. It can be 10, 12, 14 or 16 bits. The Ninja V will only record to a SATA SSD like all current Atomos recorders. So it will not be possible to record onto SSD through an USB-C connector. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What is wrong with my settings (Sony rx100iv )
Atobit replied to caolino's topic in Shooting Technique, Workflow and Editing
Hello I’m not specialist of this camera but when I look at your pictures it’s seems your strobe is oriented at the front of your target. The lower part of the images are overexposed, while the above doesn’t receive any light from your strobe. Depending of the distance between your camera and target you have to align you strobe adequately. Next, 1/100 shutter speed seems to low, you have a lot of motion blur. 1/250 would be better. Show me your GH5, How you trim your buoyancy?
Atobit replied to gearbow_36218's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Maybe everyone knows already but for the one who don't, here is the link of Inon website where they list all their products (and more) underwater weight: http://www.inon.jp/products/armsystem/weight_table.html Very useful to estimate you buoyancy need. Just as suggestion if it doesn't exisit somewhere else, Wetpixel could open a section where we could list all underwater camera/photo equipments underwater weight. -

Both way as there conveniences. Some thought about the system: I’ve at there website, it seems to have a ‘click’ system that need a push to the button for the release. I’m just wondering if it’s not too risk. If you accidentally push the release button underwater when manipulating the lights...bye bye the lights! Hopefully the release spring is not too soft. Do you mean the Ikelite handle quick release system? Can it be adapted to the Nauticam? Actually it would be nice! Can you explain what is your tyre weight system? Cheer Claude Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

That’s really an impressive setup. The Nauticam arms seems oversized compare to the lights. They looks so tiny! Overall it looks an heavy system on land. Shouldn’t be easy on the boat, the boat operators might charge you two seat, one for you and one for the camera system. LOL! Did you use the same arms setup with the Keldan lights? -

Sorry to pollute the topic. Keldan can start to worry at 750Euro/piece. Can you get spare battery, how much they cost? -

Just more thought on this subject: With one single LP-E6 battery, the operation will likely to be short as you have to power the screen and the camera while recording. I guess max 30~40mins. So you will need add a second or a more powerful battery. Then if you want to record CDNG raw uncompressed (to take full advantage of the camera), file size is about 500GB/25mins, so for a dive you’ll need a least a 512GB CF card that cost $1,000US minimum or use an external USB-C SSD. This assuming Nauticam will offer the possibility to put a larger battery capacity and an USB-C SSD aside from the BMCC 4K camera. The housing is not going to be as cheap as the camera. About recording format, if BM integrate the ProRes Raw format, recording time will be about 0.8GB/minute or so, so still need large capacity memory support, forget the SD cards. Also be prepare to buy additional storage for your editing and backup. I can image that for a few days dives trip you will need quite some Tera Bytes of storage capacity. So at this moment a GH5/S, with the future Atomos Ninja V recorder eventually (for ProRes format), still seems to be the best option. Too bad because at this price point the BMCC 4K camera is a no brainer. -

Apart shooting raw the GH5/GH5S might be a better option. Does the BMCC 4K will have standard color profiles in it, like the rec709? Most people’s don’t like and/or don’t know how to grade raw/log file, so this camera might be not for everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The camera is very competitive in many aspect, just concern that CDNG files are very heavy to manage. Also Panasonic will have sell the GH5S sensor to BMD knowing they‘ll release a camera that directly compete with the latest camera? It’s sounds strange. Or Pana may have a plan to release a firmware update that allow Atomos to record PRORES RAW through the HDMI. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
