Did you ever get an answer, or try this combination for yourself? -
Nauticam Vacuum valve - how much vacuum?
tangfish replied to Bevanj's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Just experienced the same as trickster and Bevan. The strange thing is, why does getting into water that's cooler than the air temperature cause this to happen? I would think that environmental cooling would enhance, not reduce the partial vacuum inside the housing. Oh well, gave me a nice scare, and prevented a blue ring photo! -

Nice shots, Jack. Vis looks great there. Did you like Yap Caverns? -
That's great news! I wonder if they allow the same amount of light through as the first type of diffuser. I'm curious to know Alex's opinon after trying these warmer diffusers, as the stock diffuser of the Z-330 seemed to be one of the main shortcomings he noticed when comparing the Inon directly against the Retra strobe, http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59574&p=393451

This is an adaptor so that Subal Type 4 ports and extension rings can be used with a Nauticam housing. It’s brand new, never been used and comes with everything pictured: the box, new o-ring, Nauticam lube, manual. $210 + shipping More info here: https://www.backscatter.com/Nauticam-N120-Adapter-for-Subal-Type-4-Ports-with

RETRA Strobe Thread

I was quite shocked by the test results showing that the Inon Z-330s were brighter and wider beams than the Retras. I thought for sure the Retras would produce more/wider light but the tradeoff beign that Inon is a more established company with likely better customer service etc. Now that the test results came out I have to say I'm leaning toward Z-330 entirely now, as it apparently wins on price, performance and likely service. -
Hopefully it does arrive in time. I know it seems far out but keep in mind the ND850 was originally supposed to ship in mid-November of 2017. After missing not one but two trips waiting for it I finally broke down and got a Nauticam housing. I really wanted a Subal but the waiting game plus the uncertainty about the company's financial picture going forward finally forced me to bite the bullet and switch, which I really did not want to do. Fortunately in the process I found that Nauticam makes a very nice adaptor that allows me to continue using all my existing Subal ports. I will probably move over to Nauticam branded ports when the time is right, but the adaptor makes the cost of switching a lot less painful at the time of buying the new housing. Best of luck to you m8!

Eagerly awaiting direct comparison w/ Z-330, Adam -
Manufacturing costs are a lot cheaper there than in places like Austria and Germany. I just talked to a friend who has a lot of manufacturing operations in that part of the world and he said Serbia should be no problem in terms of labor and infrastructure needed for manufacturing stuff like our housings. There is a lot of component manufacturing done there for the German auto manufacturers, for example.

This can cause a very bad downward spiral. If people like you and me postpone or reconsider our Subal orders then that adds to their cash flow problems, which in turn causes more uncertainty about Subal’s future as a manufacturer, and so on and so forth. I’ve been holding on and holding on waiting for the ND-850 which was supposed to begin shipping in mid-November. I still believe Subal makes a superior product but even if that is the case I don’t want a housing for which I may not be able to obtain spare parts or service down the road. I usually use a housing for at least 5 years and after reading that article about the court actions in Austria... I don’t think anyone can predict with accuracy what shape the company will be in 5 years from now. It’s a shame because I would really rather not switch to another brand of housing (and buy all new ports in the process).

Interestingly there is no mention of the transition of some (most?) operations to Serbia. Ironically, that announcement from Subal was posted from a location in.... Serbia.

Well, there goes the ND-850 I've been waiting and waiting for! FML

Best Vacuum System for DSLR Housing

Interesting! First negative account of a leak sentinel, which I’d pretty much settled on. Can you tell me more about that leak incident? Did it actually leak *through* the leak sentinel or give a false positive reading?
