  9. Yeap....don't dive with something you don't want to flood. Anyway, I hate wrist straps...they always seem to want to tangle so when I carried a point and shoot, it was either in my BC pocket or on a lower d ring. Cheers, Gary
  10. I started diving and shooting with a back inflation vest, dacor falcon. I loved in under the water but hated it at the surface. I tried several things that were suggested to me at the time and nothing worked to keep me from face planting at the surface..including putting liess air, remaining motionless etc etc. It was so frustrating that I moved into a jacket style BC.
  11. Maybe the speed of my internet but it took 3 times to load your site...once there...you should be very proud. Those are great shots.
  12. The Ports...are the ikelite clip style ports...if you know what I mean, they'll fit. They're all in what I would call very good condition. Minor signs of wear. 5501 - short flat 5505.5 long flat port (telephoto?) I also have what appears to be a zoom gear and zoom clamp. (both ports $20?) Strobes Substrobe AI - Big strobe, powers up, flashes with Nikon camera set on manual. Has built in light. Runs on D batteries. ($20?) Case - Tamarac, Soft/hard case....it is cloth on the exterior but has reinforcement inside to not allow the bag to flex. 22" x 15" x 9.5" It isn't a wheeley. It has a shoulder strap and carry handle. It is in great condition. ($20?)
  13. When the thought of seeing fish butts gets you excited. When you understand the meaning of muddy blues
  14. Actually tested the strobes with a nikon digital camera set to manual mode and it fires both strobes...so they work. No ttl, just manual with digital.
  15. A wet diopter like a woody's or inon would fill the frame with the subject. With those olympus zoom lens, I've taken the port cover and "surgically" placed a woody's right in the middle. Has worked very well for me.
  16. several items still available...make an offer?
  17. I've been out of the game for awhile but I thought backscatter is light reflected directly back into the shutter creating a hexagonal (shape of aperture) ghost in the image. I see mostly just lighted particulate in the photo suggesting that your subject matter was too far away. Anyway, maybe I'll tune back in a day or so and get a better understanding. BTW...that lighted particulate is really what drives underwater photogs nuts. It is hard to avoid. Generally I get the best results in turbid water by angling my strobes out (most say in) and taking off the diffusers (most say leave them on)...so go figure.
  18. I love the review, but the hard to see EVF has this macro photographer a little concerned. LCD's are great until you're trying to find a grain of rice in a salad. I hope someone recognizes this need and moves forward wtih a better housing with that in mind. Otherwise, what is not to like!
  19. I've dived Oahu on several occasions and enjoyed my dives there quite a bit. The terrain is a little different as there is very little colorful coral off Oahu, however, very sharky which was great. There's also a ton of octopus there. I've seen sharks on almost every dive at the pinnacles off Pearl Harbor. I've not personally dived the big island of Kona but its on my wish list. In particular there is a Manta Dive where they show up rather regularly. In addition there's this little gem of a dive that would be nothing short of spectacular.http://www.bigislanddivers.com/Black.html I can't speak much to Kauai other than it is the most rustic and secluded of all the islands. I've shore dived Oahu twice...once at shark cove the other inside of Hanauma Bay.
  20. I believe if you buy the Olympus underwater strobes you can increase your sync speed...I would email tropical1 here on the forum.
  21. I've done some research on thiese items but it is still hard to nail down what would be considered the value of these items so I'm opening them up to an offer. No reasonable offer will be refused. All of these items appear to be in super condition for the age of the kit. With that said, if you have a problem with it, I'll refund your money. My name is Gary. PM me for cell number. The Ports...are the ikelite clip style ports...if you know what I mean, they'll fit. They're all in what I would call very good condition. Minor signs of wear. 5501 - short flat 5502 - longer flat 5503 - dome port 5505.5 long flat port (telephoto?) I also have what appears to be a zoom gear and zoom clamp. (all 4 ports $150?) Strobes Substrobe 50 - powers up ($40?) Substrobe AI - Big strobe, powers up ($40?) Ikelite Tray and Handle with 1 strobe arm ($10?) Dual Ikelite sync cord - 5 pin - ($10?) Single Ikelite sync cord - 5 pin ($5?) Case - Tamarac, Soft/hard case....it is cloth on the exterior but has reinforcement inside to not allow the bag to flex. 22" x 15" x 9.5" It isn't a wheeley. It has a shoulder strap and carry handle. It is in great condition. ($50?) Just as a side note, I'll be out of touch the last week of June. http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/25230308@N07/7161132919/
  22. oh crap...port down! port down!!! ... surface..surface....breath ... don't panic lungs are more valuable than your lens and camera.... all thoughts that went through my mind as I noticed water on the inside of my port at 25ft.
