  1. Why is there no viewfinder on the housing in the picture above? Does this setup include a viewfinder for the housing?
  2. I will be going to Belize for a week in January and staying in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. I dove in Belize many years ago before I was into underwater photography but don't remember who that was with. Does anyone have recommended dive operators in this area? Here is what I am most interested in: - Turneffe Atoll - Shark Ray Alley - Mangroves (if people anyone will do it, I know they have had some crocodile problems) - Lighthouse Reef/Blue Hole (Is this worth doing?) - Local dive sites near San Pedro. I am mostly interested in shooting wide angle but would also do 1 or 2 days of macro. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Best Regards, Jon Anderson uw.jonjake.com
  3. I am looking for a snoot for an Inon Z-240. Would potentially be interested in either a Retra LSD or 10Bar.
  4. I bought a new Z-240 strobe from garyyoss a few months ago after they were discontinued by Inon. Everything was exactly as he described and he was also very friendly to work with. We now share dive photos and stories occasionally. I would definitely buy from garyyoss again in the future.
  5. Got one, no longer looking.
  6. Moses, Thanks for the tip. I might try this when have some time. I am curious why you decided to fill the gap with water rather than just leaving air in there and sealing it? The Dyron SWAL13 looks suspicious similar to Opteka lens you linked to above but costs approximately 4 times as much. I will let you know how this goes if I end up doing it! Nice video by the way! Thanks, Jon
  7. Proceed with caution if your are looking at the Dyron SWAL13 Wet Wide Angle Lens! I really hate to make a post like this here but I dont want anyone else to end up in this same situation. I bought one about a year ago very excited about it after reading several reviews online. I have taken some decent pictures with it, as my eye became more trained and I shot with it more, I started noticing that its focus was pretty soft relative to other wet lens I have used (Nauticam WWL-1 & CMC-1) I posted about that here: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59530 Bad went to worse. I dove with this lens in Monterey this last April and noticed that there was large dot of condensation that formed between two of the elements when exposed to the cold water. Autofocus really doesn't like trying to focus through a cloud. Below is a picture of a crab under the large dot of condensation from April when I first noticed the problem. You would assume that wet lens should be well sealed to prevent moisture from getting between the elements. I don't know if mine has a defect or they are just not well made but its really disappointing. Dyron advertises a 2 year warranty on their website, I have tried to contact them several times with various email address and have gotten no responses. I have also tried to see if several US vendors have a way of getting ahold of them and they have had no luck. Before making this post I decided to do a test to confirm this condensation problem. I put the lens in a bowl of ice water, within a minute or so the dot of condensation clearly started forming in the center between the 2 elements. I am now stuck with a big useless piece of fairly expensive glass that I cannot sell.
  8. Looking for 1 Inon Z-240 Type 4 in good condition. DM me if you have one you are looking to sell. Jon
  9. I may accept offers lower than $300. Send me a PM if you want to make an offer.
  10. I have a Inon D-2000 Type 2 in very good condition for sale. I wasn't going to part with it because I took many of my favorite macro shots with it but I figured its time for it to get use from someone else as it has just been sitting in my gear bag for a few months now (I have a pair of Z-240s now). The strobe has never had any floods or leaks and the contacts look great (see pictures). It includes the -0.5 stop diffuser (has minor crack) & focus light diffusers. I am NOT including ball mount adapter or fiber cable. I am looking for $300 USD, buyer pays shipping.
  11. I have a Dyron SWAL13 that I have been using with my Canon G7X in a Nauticam NA-G7X housing with the N50 short port. The relative price, wide FOV, and Blue Water Photo test results (http://www.bluewaterphotostore.com/canon-g7x-underwater-lens-tests) are what led me to the SWAL13. Thus far I have found that getting photos with razor sharp focus with this lens/camera combination is nearly impossible. The very wide field of view is great for composing big shots but many of them end up having soft focus and are barely usable. Any ideas why this might be the case? I have not had the same type of focus problem when shooting with my CMC-1 macro lens or no wet accessory lens. Here are a few example photos that I feel show this problem: https://jonjake.smugmug.com/El-Nido-2016/i-6VmGkHQ/A ( f/8, 1/40s, ISO 125) https://jonjake.smugmug.com/Cozumel-2016/i-6KVw3K4/A (f/8, 1/80s, ISO 200) https://jonjake.smugmug.com/Central-California/i-r4shgL5/A (f/8, 1/60s, ISO 200) I have read some recommendations that suggest locking focus on your fin at the beginning of a dive when shooting wide angle and others that say to put your camera in Macro mode when shooting with a wet wide angle lens. Any suggestions or tips that I can try would be greatly appreciated!
  12. I post my UW pictures to Instagram regularly (@scubajonjake). I find it to be a great venue for all my non-diver friends to better understand and appreciate why I go diving in cold California water so often. I have also found it to be a great place to see what other local UW photographers are seeing/doing.
  13. Would you consider selling the D2000 by itself? Is it Type2, Type4, etc?
  14. I have had a Dyron SWAL13 for a few months now and have used it on a few different California trips. I am pretty happy with the results so far. (Disclaimer: This is the only wide angle lens I have ever shot with). I am shooting with a Canon G7X and Nauticam Housing (w/ Short Port). I have not shot any video with it, only stills. Here are a few SWAL13 shots: http://jonjake.com/files/2016/11/IMG_2917.jpg (no cropping) http://jonjake.com/files/2016/11/IMG_2875.jpg (cropped) http://jonjake.com/files/2016/11/IMG_2004.jpg (cropped)
  15. I got certified to dive when I was 12 but only dove occasionally on family vacations in tropical water while growing up. About 2 years ago, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area have been fortunate to dive far more frequently, I have since gotten really into cold water diving and UW photography. After hunting for Nudibraches in Monterey for a year with my old Canon Powershot SD700 and Ikelite housing it was time to upgrade. I now have a Canon G7X in Nauticam housing and recently got a Dyron SWAL13. I have had fun making the most of my natural light photos but I am excited to get a strobe or two soon. Looking forward to reading more of the Wetpixel forums and hopefully will find some new (to me) gear in the classifieds!
