  1. I wanted to post a video of the before and after colour correction I do on my footage. This was all edited on my iPad Pro 11” using LumaFusion. All the footage was shot on my LX10 / Nauticam rig. No red filter or lights, just custom white balance. The depth is anywhere from 30-90 feet. I just trimmed the beginning and ending of the clips and applied the colour correction. I have some LUT’s that I created in DaVinci Resolve that I imported into LumaFusion, this is necessary step as it gives LumaFusion a good starting point. I’m currently using the beta version of iPad OS 13 so I’m able to plug in hard drives to import or backup my video. It can handle any 4K clips I throw at it without any issues, even with 4-5 layers of 4K video. I left the audio as is, this is just to show the colour correction. https://youtu.be/bft2rHaFun8
  2. Just to clarify, I’m super picky when it comes to stabilized footage, so while it’s not perfect, it’s OK. I did use the custom white balance of the camera (which is very good), and because of that I didn’t need to use lights. Also, I was on the tail end of a month long trip and a) didn’t want to drag around lights and b) don’t have very powerful lights, they are good for macro and that’s about it.
  3. I shot in 1080 so I could use the extra stabilization in HD along with the ability to slow it down to 50%. I find the 4K stabilization the weak point of the camera. Since I do all my editing on an iPad now, I’ve found a couple programs to apply stabilization and I think I’ll be putting the 30 FPS video on a 24 FPS timeline and slowing it to 80% which should help. I have some videos on my channel that shows this. I’m back to 4K on the LX10 now.
  4. If you have an iPhone or iPad you can get an app called LumaFusion for around $20 that can do everything you need (within the usual IOS restrictions). The colour correction is decent but not as powerful as Davinci Resolve obviously. As a workaround, I graded some clips in Resolve and saved the grade as a LUT (or filter if you like) and imported the LUT into LumaFusion. You can adjust the strength of the LUT if it's too strong/red. Anyway here is a sample of what I do grade wise: EDIT: Just to mention, a regular iPad (not a pro) or iPhone can handle 4k60 H.265 footage no problem and it can export 4k at 150mbps max.

  6. I’ve tried the Noam Kroll CineD LUT on CineD footage and it was not good for underwater footage. Way too contrasty and saturated. I’m happy with it on land. I just create my own in DaVinci now.
  7. As an alternative, here is my experience. Most of my videos are travel related, both scuba and land based. I’ve been using a MacBook Air for the last 5 years. Having switched to 4K about 2 years ago I ran into limitations on the MacBook. My workaround was to use iMovie (which works very well with 4K) to build the timeline and sync my video to music. Once completed, I export as ProRes and imported that video to DaVinci resolve for colour grading. This worked fine until I started using h.265 4k60, iMovie couldn’t keep up. Now I’m using a 2018 iPad Pro 11” with LumaFusion as my video editor. This thing cuts h.265 4k60 no problem and renders 100mbps projects in real time (up to 150mbps with the latest update). Now there are the usual apple limitations but I’ve worked around most of them I think. On the colour side if there is something I can’t do, I will do it in Resolve and import that LUT into LumaFusion. There are some LumaFusion limitations as well but for me it was worth the trade off of having an easily portable video editing machine that can handle anything I throw at it.
  8. I don't have a GH5 but I've always wondered about this with my LX10. I set custom WB and it's always been more green/blue than I would have expected. I haven't been bothered by it because I can still pull pretty much all the colour back with footage shot down to about 60ft. What tool are you using to check the actual temperature?
  9. Hi DS, I just picked up an iPad Pro that I'm hoping to replace my macbook air with. My primary use is for video editing. In your case I would suggest the following (which would work from any IOS device). I picked up a RavPower File Hub for $50, with this I can plug in a memory card to the SD card slot and then any USB data storage device in the USB slot and use the iPad/iPhone app to transfer everything from the SD card to the USB harddrive. Since both the SD and USB drive are physically connected to the RavPower device, you are getting USB 2.0 speeds and not using over the air transfer (which you can also do, but it's much slower). I then use an SD card reader to load the SD card images (video in my case) to the iPad for editing. This way you are not relying on an internet connection to backup your photos. I only use my MacBook for a few things these days (backing up one USB drive to another, and creating backups of my iPad / iPhone). Hope that helps.
  10. I should add that the lens actually touches the nauticam port (which is good for the quality) but does leave some marks. It’s not in the field of view with or without the Inon on. I tried adding a spacer but it impacted the video quality. It’s also very heavy;)
  11. Hi Lee, all the shots were with the UWL-h100 and 95% of them were at full wide angle. For video I think it’s a very good combo, in 4K since the LX10 starts at 36mm, it’s almost a necessity. Hope that helps.
  12. I think the only housing options for the LX10 are nauticam and Ikelite. Im using the Inon UWL-h100 for wide angle and Im happy with it. It needs to be zoomed to 32mm for video and probably a little more for photo but gives roughly 100 degrees.
  13. I have the LX10/Nauticam+vacuum valve (by nauticam, bought as a package). I don't do stills, but for video I'd say it's almost perfect (for a smallish package). Full setup includes 2 video lights, arms clamps, wet wide angle lens and it comes in at about 8-9 pounds and easily fits into a small backpack. The only thing I'm knocking this camera for is the 4k video stabilization which could be better. I did some testing with stabilization in post and it seems to resolve most of these issues, but it is an extra step. I did add some longer arms and float stix to help stabilize the footage in water as well. It seems to be fine on land though, only underwater, maybe it was the effect of the current/surge which was very strong. I work around the focus issues by pre-focussing using the back button focus lock and it seems to be fine in most situations (especially around f5.6). Underwater white balance is really good down to 50-60 feet, which lets me get away with no filter or lights within that range. Here is a video I put together, it's a combination of 1080 (slowed to 50%), 4k and high frame rate (120 fps).   14. I just returned from a trip to Costa Rica for 2 weeks and put together a dive video. It was my first real test with the LX10/Nauticam housing. I was fairly impressed with the exception of the stabilization in 4k, I was in pretty strong current/surge so that may have played a part. I'm also extremely picky when it comes to stable shots. 1080 worked well when I slowed it down 50%. Everything was shot in ambient light from 30-90 feet (no filter), I had a light but didn't use it.   15. Actually I think I'll leave it as is, even through it's leaving some scratches on the front element of the nauticam, they are not in the image circle (when the lens is removed). When I use a spacer, it impacts sharpness, especially in the corners.
