  1. Hi Brumpy, some clarifications: No two external screens are possible on MacBook, Macbook pro or the iMac. Two or more external screens can be used with the Mac Pro. If you want to edit films for submitting to broadcasters you will need extra hardwares, simply because of the delivery requirements, such as az AJA IO, Kona card or Blackmagic card... And these card can be added only to the Mac Pro (only the AJA IO can be used with a laptop.) I personally use two macs, one mac pro with a Kona Lhe card, several internal disks in raid, external disks for backup, a broadcast monitor (CRT), a mixer, a couple of near field audio monitors etc. Unfortunately these are all required... Beyond the mac pro, I use a macbook pro (with the expresscard possibility for eSata connection), so I can use it on the field as well, since all the media files can be put on an external disk, either with FW800 or eSata connection. I recommend to have two computers :-) Also, the workflow is very important... Using prores codecs is a good idea, but they take more space on your disks. I hope it helps. These cost a lot of money, I know. But, for example I bought my mac pro in 2006 and I have no intention to change it for a newer one, because it is expandable and flexible and still very powerful. So I spend a big bunch of money in 2006 but I did not have to spend money for it, except to buy new and bigger disks... So in a long run you have a reliable workstation for many years and as an add on, you can edit your works on the field as well. For me, as a standalone wannabee filmmaker it serves well...
  2. Well, I'm on the market for an affordable Scarlet. Since I have no money for it right now, I am especially calm - and as Johnny just said, one of the real bonus is to push big manufacturers forward... But if Scarlet live up the expectations it would be a great device...
  3. Well, This is a large festival - I hope two threads are not too much about it As I see we can meet anyway...
  4. Hi, DivePhotoGuide will be there... I would be happy to meet fellow Wetpixel folks in Marseilles... Who is coming? Best, Jules
  5. Thanks. Since this won't be a commercial film, I think I have to choose the longer version...
  6. Jon, For a simple audio fade out you do not have to go to Soundtrack. You can use an audio transition effect, namely the Cross Fade (0dB). You set up the lenght and it is ready. With keyframes I suppose you only changed the second keyframe. It is not linear, but you can move the first keyframe, making the curve flatter.
  7. Hi, I am a bit confused. I'm preparing a program with a possible broadcast option (as a free public service program). What are now the standard lenghts? Half an hour programs are: 24, 26 minutes. One hour programs are: 43, 48, 52 minutes. But which are the the current standards? Which one should I choose for a one hour program? (This is the aim, at least for now...) This is a documentary about a disarmament treaty and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) personnel... Lots of interviews, field footage (even underwater) etc. Best, Jules
  8. I would stick to the 7200 rpm, and if possible the eSata interface... Order it from the US...
  9. A few screenshots from yesterday.... The second generation Discovery Pro light system and the X3 housing – our team (Zsolt, Zsolt and Milan) is warmin' up The upcoming uw generation and the very-very interesting toy of daddy After dive... These 300 bar double tanks (32 kg) and this housing with camera, lights and weights (approx. 20 kg) made my life very-very heavy... After dive - opening the housing Half-half pic as we are filmed by my friend, Milan, featuring an unknown blondie...
  10. No, I have a V1, like you But finally I decided not to buy a housing for it... A friend of mine and I teamed up in this endeavour, he has an EX3, I have a couple of HID lights... Why buy everything if you can share it? We (unfortunately) are not using these devices 365/365, and not going dive together...
  11. Family = Wetpixel and UW community - and my family WA = Present time it is not exists. Amphibico will make use of the 16x9inc wide angle lens for EX3 and they will make an extension for it. It will come in the following months... Weight: the housing without the lead ballast is approx. 17 kg...
  12. Hi folks, our newest family member has arrived... I teamed up with a friend and voilá... It is an awesome masterpiece Hopefully we can go under water this Saturday, so I try to make a short first impression review soon. I hope you don't mind, but I was playing around with the new speed tools in Final Cut Pro 7 Cheers, Jules http://www.vimeo.com/6519979 or
  13. Hi folks, I had recently a chat with Gabe Cheifetz from CrumpleProp. They saw our nice thread about their products, so they decided to give Wetpixel folks a special discount which is valid for about one month and can be used for the big CrumpleBundle. The discount is for Wetpixelians only Here is the code: WETP-0049-BNCD-0909 It allows you to purchase CrumpleBundle at the discounted price of $49, and it is valid for one month (regular price is $169). You can use it here: http://www.crumplepop.com/?page_id=19 Enjoy! Best, Jules
  14. Well, I am curious how it will look like applied to an underwater shot For the reflection effect, here is a Motion tutorial (free) from RippleTraining, but I guess the filter makes it much more easier... http://www.rippletraining.com/free_motion_tutorials.html
  15. This procedure comes from the topside world, it gives you a nice blurry, homogen image for the white balance.
  16. Much better if you zoom in fully, push out of focus, and make the white balance.
  17. Thanks, Simon. Well, to get to to Eilat is not always trouble free... Last time my housing and the camera inside was almost confiscated in Tel-Aviv at Ben Gurion, because the officer thought I want to sell my setup in Israel... I had to leave a conditional payment (1000 EUR) unless I go back to him next week, and show, that I will take out my set from the country... However, despite all the inconveniences, it is a very good and nince dive destination. The Eilat shore is very comfortable to dive, you can make unescorted dives with your buddy, in this case you pay almost only for the tanks... You can make 2 hours dive... The Dolphin reef and the other destinations are also very nice and calm. We spotted a cleaning station at 15 meters deep, and we could spend there hours to study, photography and record the cleaning without seeing other divers... It was fascinating. Maybe you know well, but there is the Eilat Shoot-out in every year, organized by David Pilosof. www.eilatredsea.com If you have time this year I strongly recommend to go there, take part in the competition... (They have on-line videoclip competition as well). For the family: they can find good times on the shore - and very important: not only the bottled water can be consumed, normal tap water is safe, not like in Egypt. All in all, this is a relaxing destination, I really like it. You can cross the borders from Egypt as well, Tibor did it without any hassle, would you arrive to Sharm...
  18. Thanks guys... Sounds like an HD res laptop? I would love to sit outside on the beach... with or without laptop By the way, Wagsy, have you tried to get the post of the best work in world? I could imagine a Wetpixel Island or reef somewhere... If you want it in full res, pm me...
