  1. I am selling my Ikelite DS51 strobes & Ultralight Control Systems arms for $850. I only used them on one shark diving trip before deciding to upgrade to the DS160s. These are great strobes for macro photography or a little fill flash with big critters. The set of Ultralight Control Systems arms include 2x 5" arms, 2x 3" arms, and 6 clamps. I can accept a cashiers check or PayPal. The buyer will cover the shipping. Please contact me at (206) 963-9022 or jon@cornforthimages.com. 2. SOLD 2/25/09 I am selling my Canon 5D and Ikelite underwater housing for $2000. The camera body has somewhere around 15,000 shutter actuations on it. It's serial number is 1721202791. The Ikelite housing has been mainly used to photograph whales and sharks near the surface and has only been to 20-80' a few times. All of the buttons and internal electronics work fine, and it has never been flooded. I want to sell the camera body and housing together. I will include the BG-E4 battery grip, Kirk QR plate, BP-511A battery and charger, camera manual, neckstrap, and Ikelite 6" dome port with shade. I also have a Canon 20mm f2.8 lens and Canon 28mm f2.8 lens for sale that work great with this system. I can accept a cashiers check or PayPal. The buyer will cover the shipping. Please contact me at (206) 963-9022 or jon@cornforthimages.com. To see pictures of this equipment please visit Canon 5D & Ikelite Housing For Sale.
  3. I'm a bit bummed that they are only upping it to 3.9fps and that they are not upgrading the auto-focus. I'm sure next year at this time I will have one in a housing (hopefully just a new Ikelite back for my current housings?), but I was hoping for a camera with a higher fps but less MP for also shooting topside wildlife. I guess I'll have to start looking more at the D50 for use with my longer lenses. I would have also like to have seen more weather sealing. I shoot a lot in the rain in places like SE Alaska all day. My 5D with a rain cover has handled 8+ hours of almost constant rain, but I had a friend's 40D stop working at around 5 hours that day. Always compromises.
  4. It looks like the Japanese are really upping their pressure tactics on Sea Shepherd. It's not enough that they already tried to assassinate Paul Watson earlier this year down in Antarctica. http://www.seashepherd.org/news/media_080915_1.html
  5. There never seems to be a single day where there is anything positive coming out of the news that has to do with the environment. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7618802.stm
  6. I am going to Raja Ampat in November for 3 weeks of diving. I am very comfortable shooting ambient light and macro subjects, but have very little experience shooting wide angle using strobes. I'm considering buying the Ikelite DS160 or the larger DS200. Does anyone have any suggestions about which strobe is better for shooting coral scenes using strobes with ambient light above? I'm leaning towards the DS160s based on travel size and price, but I want to make sure that they will work for what I want to do. Thanks.
  7. Anyone just get back from any of the trips that went to Guadalupe Island? I heard from a San Diego based photographer who is going out on the Horizon next week that there were some recent problems with the Mexican Navy and the dive operators over chumming for the sharks. Were you involved and how did this effect your trip? I am going out with Doc from SD Sharkdiving on the 7 day trip next week. I emailed him this am to see if there are any problems that I should be aware of.
  8. My wife and I went to Bunaken 8 years ago. Since then we have had 2 daughters and not as much international travel. We are finally starting to emerge from our self-induced sabbatical from international travel. There was some discussion earlier this summer about taking our kids to Bali or Bunaken. They are now 6 & 3. My wife decided that Indonesia was a bit too far for a first time trip, but we are going to take them to Panama for the holidays this year. A bit shorter flying trip to see how they do. Anyway, I would not hesitate to take my kids to Bunaken or Bali. Indonesia is very family friendly, but the longer you stay, the more likely that someone is going to get sick. A lot of the resorts give big discounts or better for children. I think that they'd have a great time doing some snorkeling (putting a face mask on, at least) and playing in the shallower water.
  9. I've been reading through the threads trying to figure out what new strobes I should purchase. I've been planning to buy 2 new Ikelite 160s for my wide angle shooting, but have wondered if I should be open to Inon or Sea & Sea strobes. If anyone would like to share their thoughts with me, I would be very grateful. Thanks.
  10. Anyone have any experience scuba diving in Panama. I am going to be there in January. I have not seen very much information on the internet about any dive operators there. Supposedly there are whale sharks to be seen around Isla Coiba. If you wouldn't mind sharing some advice, I am open to any suggestions. Thanks.
  11. I too had a few images in the exhibit. Congratualtions! In case you haven't seen this check out what NB has done this past week on this new website that is part of AOL. http://www.pixcetera.com/pixcetera/natures-best-oceans/29350
