  1. Local dive shop, owned by a friend. He's a Sea & Sea Dealer but doesn't move much high end stuff. Regards,
  2. Wesley - Please let us know if you hear any time frame on the "fix" from Sea & Sea. They've had my DX D100 housing 3 weeks now and said they would "let me know" when they had a response from Japan. Calls made by my local dealer have not been any more productive. Anyone else out there with information? Regards,
  3. Alex - Taken from Stephen Frink's SeaCam site: But if you are in the field and don't have the right cord, a simple piece of electrician's tape over the contact as in the diagram below will do the trick. NOTE THAT THESE ARE ISSUES OF CAMERA AND STROBE COMPATIBILITY AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOUSING.
  4. Now listed on ebay: Ebay Listing Link
  5. Any details on the recall? I could not find it on Divernet. Regards,
  6. I also have had other Sea & Sea housings (still have the NX100 Pro) and liked them very much. The DX D100 seems to have been rushed into production. Yes, others seem to have had the problems with the buttons and rear controls, but some have not - go figure. I do not use the aperture ring. The subcommand (aperture) control is on the aluminum portion of the housing and works well. Enjoy your trip and let us know how it goes! Regards,
  7. I was able to get the wheel working with several wraps of friction tape...I marked the top of the housing with the sequence P, A, S, M for the settings (although they do show up in the viewfinder). I suspect you will also, like many of us, find that many of the rear housing buttons do not function below about 15 feet. The preview button on my (now back with Sea & Sea...) housing DID continue to work. However, I found it best to setup the preview with the histogram showing, because none of the 4 keypad buttons worked underwater. That way you can get a good handle on exposure (at the expense of some composition information). I was unable to toggle through any of the image review functions underwater. Also, you may not be able to make any menu changes underwater...make sure you check your settings before you dive (i.e. white balance, image quality, etc.). You may also want to check out how the housing hits on your regulator above water. I tried mine initially in a pool with a larger reg and it pushed the bottom of the housing out too far. I had no problem with a smaller regulator (i.e. Atomic) or rebrether hose and mouthpiece. Having said all this, I did get some great pics with mine. Just be prepared for some frustration. See posts at http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?act=S...f=18&t=1723&hl= for more information.
  8. Thanks, I already sent mine in to them...I posted this previously: Here is a response from Sea & Sea Service regarding problems with the function buttons on the rear (ABS) portion of the Sea & Sea DX D100 housing. "Dear Donald, We are in receipt of your housing. We have not begun to remedy the situation as we are waiting to hear back from Japan on what the fix will be. As soon as we hear from them I will contact you. if you wish, we do have a loaner housing that we could provide you, however the loaner does have the same issues concerning the buttons on the function wheel. please call me if you have any questions. Service department Sea & Sea Underwater Photography (U.S.A.), Inc."
  9. Maybe... I'm on Big Pine. What are you diving in Key Largo (believe it or not, I haven't made it to the "Grove," yet.) Re Key West - Marquesa is very nice , however, it is "break time" so better get moving on reservations for whatever you decide. Marquesa Regards,
  10. Nice colors. I think it could have been cropped a bit more effectively and find the blown foreground highlights distracting. (I know it is tough to capture the full EV range here) Regards,
  11. Nother consideration is travel. A trilaminate dries MUCH quicker and packs much smaller than a crushed neoprene. Regards,
  12. I am a definite "maybe" Very interested if schedule permits.
  13. WOW! If this were the only shot from the trip, I'd consider it a success and worth every cent! Regards,
  14. For information of DX D100 owners on the list: Here is a response from Sea & Sea Service regarding problems with the function buttons on the rear (ABS) portion of the Sea & Sea DX D100 housing. 16. I can't speak to the larger islands, but we just got back from a week on Grand Turk and it was great! Vis in the 150 range, great reef life. Dive sites all within about 10 minutes. It is my understanding that the main island is much more like Grand Cayman with condos, hotels, all inclusives and that the trip to the better dive sites can be long. Photos from Grand Turk at http://www.dixonphotos.net Regards,
  17. Scorpio - Wide angle 1/60th @ f11 or f16, strobes @ 1/2 or 1/4. Closeup/Macro 1/60th @ f16, f22, f32 strobes at 1/4 and 1/8. Regards,
  18. Copy CF to laptop, then burn to DVDs using HP external DCD burner. RAW files are about 9 meg each...CDs have proven to be too small.
  19. Also got it, MUCH easier than NC3 - certainly simplifies the workflow into Photoshop! Well worth the $99.
  20. Sam's Tours is another shore based operation in Palau with an excellent reputation. The problem with shore based diving in Palau is the distance to the dive sites from any one point. Boat rides of an hour are not unusual. Additionally, shore based activities for the non-diver are limited. Palau is truely awesome. The expense of a live-aboard, relative to travel, is only a bit more and gives you up to 5 dives per day instead of 2. Regards,
  21. I'd second the Galapagos Aggressor. My wife (also nondiving) went with us on the trip (we did do Wolf and Darwin and so should you if you go...) and she had a great time. She saw lots from the boat, got lots of sun, read a lot and got pampered by the crew while the rest of us dove - and did all the land trips, also (one each day, at least). If you want great pelagics, this is the place. Did a 4 day side trip to Machu Pichu on the way home... Some photos - both topside and underwater - from the trip are on my website. Regards,
  22. Hmm, Triggerfish's experience gives me hope that perhaps Sea & Sea has a fix (well, make that fixes...). It will probably be easier to sell if it actually works
  23. I just returned from a week of diving on Grand Truk with the Sea & Sea DX100 housing. Having had good experience with the Sea & Sea NX100 Pro and my F100 (and all the ports, gears, cables) it seemed to make sense to get the DX100. Observations: 1.It is clunky and not particularly ergonomic. Underwater, though, it is close to neutral with 2 Ike 200's attached. The lower housing tends to bump up against larger regulators but seems OK with my Atomic and OK with Drager Dolphin rebreather mouthpiece. After practice, controls are not much of an issue. 2.The viewfinder is somewhat limited but does not seem a big problem with a low volume mask and some adaptation. 3.Virtually NONE of the controls on the plastic part of the housing work consistantly below about 15 feet. Fortunately, the one that did seem to work the best was the LCD preview button. However, none of the toggle switch buttons would work and I was stuck with the choice of a histogram overlying the image all the time or none of the time. The main control wheel (allowing the change from Manual to Aperture to Shutter to Program, etc.) was not functional, either. 4.Sea & Sea service techs need to spend some time at Ikelite for customer relations training! All attempts to inquire about the availability of fixes for the above were met with, "Send it in and we'll look at it..." That I did ($37.50 shipping plus insurance, thank you very much)! In short, NOT a great effort by Sea & Sea. :angryfire: I'm on the waiting list for Light and Motion... Regards,
  24. Shot in RAW - the shot was underexposed, but unique enough I wanted to try it. Color balance done with NC3 and PS7 - I agree it needs works. Don Dixon
