  1. thanks Fruit ! definitely a lot for me to learn. I did just buy Martin Edge's "The Underwater Photographer" to help me learn the basics have dove Egmont - but not the Skook yet .... bucket list for sure ! was up to Browning/God's Pocket several years ago -- but all I had back then was a GoPro Am heading back up there April 2019 - with this unit - so fingers crossed. Thanks soooo much for the feed back - I will look at re-positioning for farther spread and not pointing directly at the foreground subjects (causing the bright blow-out) - or for those ones - lowering the light level on the strobe ... I guess the best thing is to try several different strobe positions & power level on each shot so I can see what works best. you are correct - that shot is of my buddy. I have my strobes on a set of arms that total 12" each (8 inch arm attached to a 4 inch arm off the housing plate handle) - so I guess I'll need to swap out the 4 " for another 8" for the 16 inch reach you recommend I've wondered how to set the strobe power for lighting - when to use TTL or when to use manual settings ?? also - the other strobe setting knob- there are 2 sets of #'s settings (one set for when using TTL and one set when using Manual) I have no idea what these #'s are for - I'm guessing the for the manual - its to match your F-stop ... ?? as for the ones for TTL - no idea thanks again for your feedback !
  2. I have the DeepPro System for my GoPro http://www.wetpixel.com/articles/deeppro-announces-housing-compatibility use this for Freediving - it give a way better, more stable video platform and the ability to add video arms/lights if I want....and it corrects the "bending" effect the flat port on the GoPro has underwater ... I get nice Video / Photos with it as I can get closer to subjects and still get an nice overall "Wide Angle" look in my photos/video - so I'm thinking with your set-up you should be able to do the same. I just found with the small size of the GoPro's - its hard to get a good "stable" photo/video as they are so light & small and when you have limited "time" at depth so I would suggest - if you can - get a camera tray of some sort with arms/handles for your GoPro - that way you'll have a bit larger & more stable platform to shoot from the 1st tray/handle system I bough for my GoPro was from Backscatter ... https://www.backscatter.com/Flip-Filters-Double-Handle-Tray good luck !
  3. EXACTLY !!!! - my GoPro has been a MASSIVE disappointment to me ..... (I've had one of each generation up to 4 since they came out) and had 1 leak with the 4 in the GoPro "Dive" version plastic housing and 1 flood at 12 ft with the Original Hero in the regular housing (& I am meticulous about checking o-rings and not jumping into the water with ANY camera equipment) haven't been keen on trying the newer generations ... Black Friday special ! time to try something different for compact Video on my Camera System... everyone we met at DEMA raved about them....so.....
  4. Saw this at DEMA last week - https://www.paralenz.com/ no need for filters as it auto -adjusts ..... something to maybe consider instead of the GoPro .... very heavy duty & durable exterior ....
  5. does anyone have or has anyone used the Paralenz Dive Camera ? https://www.paralenz.com/ thinking this would be a great little camera for freediving ...or one to mount to my DSLR system to get the occasional video if something cool presents itself. I've been really disappointed with the GoPro lately ... it seams to eat through batteries and the Plastic housing seems to let a drop of water at the buttons occasionally any thoughts ???
  6. ok - so here is my 1st attempt with Wide Angle and an DSLR Camera (Canon Rebel T6i with Sea & Sea RDX-750 Housing & 2 x Sea & Sea YS-02 Strobes) keep in mind - I'm diving in the PNW - VERY dark, cold water usually with a lot of suspended particles in the water making VIS very low. So trying to minimalize backscatter is tricky .... we lucked out on this dive with some really decent VIS. I did notice with the Wide Angle Fish Eye Dome - my camera really wants to point upwards due to the large airspace of the Dome (so will have to look balancing it out with some sort of weigh to counter act the buoyancy characteristics of the W/A Dome) however - its all about learning - so here you go - would love any feedback or thoughts ....
  7. Alan, you can always watch on BC Divers Guy, Sell & Swap on Facebook - used u/w camera system go up for sale frequently https://www.facebook.com/groups/509250042511298/ good luck !
  8. O M G !!!! love, love .... L O V E !!!!! gotta love our back yard up here in the Pacific West Coast. your video is STUNNING !!!! I have yet to dive Deception Pass - the one & only time I went - the boat captain aborted it due to the tide/current one day....
  9. Did a day of freediving with Sealions last year @ Hornby Island (British Columbia, Canada) both the hubby & I had GoPro 4 - his regular - mine in custom Domed Housing ... I hope I can attach the Video for you https://www.facebook.com/cjorca/videos/vb.535830179/10154502253650180/?type=3
  10. Cool thread ! Warm water - love my Cressi Garra Blades .... I’ve had the same pair for over 20 yrs .... NEVER touched the reef with them (keep a nice frog kick or high ankle scull & WALA - silt free & coral safe) Cold water - the same USD Blades I bought shortly after I 1st stared diving in 1989 (have upgraded to spring straps for easier on/off) Also have a pair of Quatros too. I’ve always thought to try others, but never seamed to get around to it
  11. Hello from British Columbia ! Been diving for over 20 yrs. Last real u/w Camera was an old Film Nikons V ! Have a GoPro - but it’s mainly used for taking video while Freediving. Had a Canon sure-shot in a cheap housing for a few months - but was really old So- basically a newbie here. Have been drooling all over several dive buddy’s camera systems & I finally pulled the trigger on one Canon Rebel T6i with Sea & Sea RDX Housing & 2 Sea & Sea YS-02 strobes (& of course plate/arms etc) I’ve done some macro with some success & have just started to try my hand at Wide Angle. I do have a question .... on the back of the strobes, there is settings for manual & TTL If anyone is familiar with these, can you tell me if the numeral setting on manual, are to match the f-Stop you set the camera on ? Or something different Also - what situations would you want to have strobes on TTL or manual? Thanks in advance
