Cleaning acrylic port
matt2jo replied to matt2jo's topic in Shooting Technique, Workflow and Editing
Thanks for the reply, I will check out the link also. thanks, Matt -
Hello, I have an acrylic dome port that needs a bit of a clean. I rinse it off well after a dive but it seems to get a little bit of a film on it or a bit of oil from possibly my hand accidenlty touching it. Can anyone recommend a product to use to clean it and what kind of cloth to use so it will not scratch. The other problem I have is no matter how careful I am inserting and removing the camera from the housing I still seem to get bits of lint etc on the inside of the dome. Is there any special way to clean this? Thanks, Matt

I think I will take a miss on the 500D Diopter. Can anyone recommend a brand of the cheaper ones that would still be decent? Thanks for the replies, Matt

Hello everyone, I have a canon 400D camera in a patima housing with a canon 10-22mm lens. I am using a 40 mm extension and the Athena 170mm dome. I have found that my images are a little soft. I ahve been told that a +2 diopter will help me. Has anyone had experience with the 10-22mm and a diopter? I was thinking of getting the canon 500D but don't want to waste the money on this expensive diopter is the cheaper ones will work. Any info would help greatly. Thanks, Matt

Hello, I am doing pool photography and am looking at using the Canon 10-22mm ultawide lens behind a nexus acrylic dome port. Has anyone used this combo, or atleast the lens underwater? My shots are going to be close up and the lense will need to focus reasonably fast (babies only under for a few seconds). If this lens is no good can anyone recommend another lens? I am using a canon 400d with a patima housing. I have been told the nexus ports use the same thread and will work. If anyone can confirm this that would be great. Thanks, Matt

Hello Jim, I am looking at doing a baby swim photography in Australia. The camera I am going to use is a Canon 400d with the canon 10mm to 22mm lense (Using a 9" dome port) . Do you think that this wide angle lense would be appropriate for this? Matt

I am looking at using a patima housing for the canon 400D and have been told that the Nexus Dome ports will fit on this set up. Has anyone tried this and had any success? I will be using the canon 10-22mm wide angle lense. Any info on this particular set up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt Schultz

Housing for pool photography(ikelite vs Patima?)
matt2jo replied to matt2jo's topic in Photography Gear and Technique
Thanks for the reply James, I will look into the Aquatech. That sounds more like what I am looking for. Thanks Matt Hi Matt, Welcome to Wetpixel, I too have done some pool photography, but never surf. Have you considered getting a dedicated surf/pool housing? They are made for a totally different set of design parameters - instead of withstanding high pressure they are made for shock (wave) loads and are easier to handle. Have a look at the Aquatech housings. Cheers James -
Hello, I am looking at doing swim school photography(pool photography)and was wondering if anyone would have advice on a decent camera set up. There are 2 setups I am currently looking at. An Ikelite housing on a Canon 400D with a DS-125 strobe and a 8 " Dome (acylic). This set up uses a TTL system. The other setup I am considering is a Patima housing with the Canon 400D, either the DS-125 strobe or the Inon Z 240 with the Patima 6" (glass)dome port. All of my photography is going to be either in pools or in the surf. Does anyone have any recommendation of what would work best for me? From what I can tell from photos of other people doing this type of work the lighting is very important. There seems to be a huge difference in the quality of these type of photographers. Any info on housings , strobes, Ports (acrylic vs glass) would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks, Matt Schultz
