  2. Hello everyone, Looking for a new focus light and wondering what is recommended or what is new out in the market. I'm mainly looking for yellow or white and red light, as well as the feature where the focus light shuts off temporarily upon strobe triggering. After I changed my strobes (now using Retra Pro), my current focus light is hit or miss when the strobes fire off. Thanks in advance!

  4. I've seen several posts about X-Adenturer, Weefine, Kraken, BigBlue and DivePro lights added over the last few days. As always Keldan is the elephant in the room First of all: pointing out that they are Chinese doesn't mean anything per se. Today 90% of our equipment is made in China. An iPhone is made in China. In our context, Nauticam is a Chinese company (I won't go into Hong Kong's terrible issues with Mainland China). As always the devil is in the details. Our equipment goes in salt water and given the cost, in the long run needs maintenance. So in addition to finding a product with great features, it is important to find a company that will support their products over the years and at a reasonable cost and time. As someone pointed out, sending a lamp to China for service from the U.S. / Europe has costs and times unrealistic. So it would be preferable to find a company with dealers who are also able to provide technical assistance and follow their customers. Nauticam has a worldwide network of dealers who can solve most of the problems. You are forced to send the housing to Hong Kong only for complete service and the dealer always takes care of it. Going back to the underwater lamps mentioned above, just take a tour of their websites to realize that many of their models are eerily similar if not identical. Even USA/Canada based companies, have identical lamp models except for logo customization and a few details. Moreover a quick search on AliExpress will shows dozens more unknown brands with very similar models. Have you noticed that they all have the same type of switch? A button that controls the lamp through a sequence of presses. I agree with @ChrisRoss, IMHO this is the absolute most inconvenient way to use it underwater. In the long run I have had several problems with this type of switch. They state that the lights are guaranteed 100 meters but already around 60 meters the switch does not work well. So the question I have been asking myself for a long time is: who really makes these lamps? It seems to me that Chinese and Western companies re-brand and "remake" OEM lamps with specific names, marketing and features, etc. But in reality most of the underwater lamp lines are the same. TL;DR Anyway, I too have had a couple and still have two small snoot lights that I use for macro. Some models are unbeatable value for money but in my opinion the important thing is to choose a brand with a reliable local dealer who will provide support if there are any problems. My experience on that:
  5. FOR SALE: Item: Kraken Sports Hydra 3500S+ Video Light Wide / Spot / Red/ UV / Strobe Description: *NEW UPDATE* Kraken Sports just turned the Hydra 3500, into the Hydra 3500 RGB, adding RGB LED’s in addition to everything else so now you have 9 different color options for creative lighting. If you are a macro shooter this is the light for you. This light has flood, spot, red, and UV beams. It also is remote control ready, all you have to do is purchase the Kraken remote and you can control up to two lights without having to remove your hand from your tray. *NEW* Kraken Sports also added their strobe/burst mode to this light. When synced to your camera via fiber-optic cable this will strobe at the same time as your camera at 4500 lumens They have also made the head water resistant. If you have an accident and flood the light, the head will remain OK. You will probably have to replace the battery but that is much less expensive than replacing the light. This gives you the benefit of being able to easily switch batteries between dives, but also not having to worry about a flood. UPC: 714598690894 Condition: brand-new, unused, undamaged item in its original packaging – NEVER EVEN SUBMERGED IN WATER Quantity: 2 are available (you can purchase either 1 light or both) Volume Discount: if you purchase both lights, you will receive a discount of $22 per light (or $44 altogether) Price: $440.00 for 1 light $836.00 for 2 lights

  7. Hi all! Thanks for accepting me in the forum. I have read that a lot of people had troubles with the strobes YS-D2, but I haven't found anybody with my issue. Let's see if somebody can help me. The last two times I had use my underwater set up (Canon G7X, Nauticam Housing NA-G7X and strobe S&S YS-D2) the strobe is shooting always in maximum power, which is very inconvenient for macro. I've checked all the modes and I have the same problem with all of them (except of the Manual with pre-flash). I wonder if it's a problem with the batteries as they are brand new or the power selector. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thank you very much for your attention and replies.

  13. I have two used Ikelite DS161 Strobes/Video lights up for sale. I purchased both of them used last spring 2017 from Ebay. I used them both less than 10 times (probably more like 4 times) and realized that they are just too unwieldy for instream photography. I recently bought a Retra strobe and I think that the size is a bit more what I am looking for. So I am now trying to offload these two Ikelites. One of the strobes has some cosmetic wear from the previous owner (see pics). The other strobe is in great shape. Both strobes are fully functional and operate well. Both have battery packs, sync port covers (metals screw caps) and both have the 1" ball adapters. However, I only have one diffuser and one charger. Looking for $1400 for the pair - shipping and PayPal fees included. PayPal or local pickup in Seattle, WA. For feedback - Ebay: iakona808 FredMiranda: Jsatoshi My website is JasonSChing.com -Shoot me a message on any of these if you'd like me to confirm. Thanks for looking! -Jason

  16. I have 2 inon z240's which i bought exactly 1 year ago, brand new. I have a canon 5d mkiii, ikelite housing and so always shoot in manual and with the pre-flash button pushed in on the strobe. Just the other day i was out shooting and noticed that one of my strobes seemed to be stuck on low power and no matter what i changed on the manual power setting it was giving the same low output. I exited the water and had a look at the sync cables and battery compartment for water ingress but nothing at all. I noticed when i switched the strobe setting to S-TTL i could get a full power flash output but when back on manual i could not adjust it again. This is showing the exact same symptoms as when the pre-flash button is not locked in. So onwards to that evening where i do some research online and notice a lot of people getting this same issue and the culprit seems to be the magnet in the pre-flash button corroding therefore not engaging the switch inside the inon strobe unit. I went ahead and removed the button only to notice the magnet is completely intact, not surprising considering it's less than a year old. So the problem must be inside... maybe a sticky or faulty switch... such as you get on a car relay sometimes in which the solution is often to tap it with something. As a last ditch attempt at getting my beloved strobe back to working order i pushed in the Pre-Flash button and tapped the side of the strobe with my multi tool and bingo it's working perfectly again. I presume as long as i don't let the switch out then it should keep the switch engaged and i can continue shooting for now. I am currently working in Tonga and getting things shipped to and from here is extremely impractical therefore i will probably continue using the strobe for now as long as it holds up. However has anyone else had this issue as i can't find anything else online about it.... Any input would be much appreciated!

  19. Hi all, I am ready to make the step from still photography to video. I am using a Nauticam 7d setup. I am looking out for general tips on shooting video with this setup. Also which lens would you prefer? Tokina 10-17 for his quality or sigma 17-70 for his greater zoom range. What would be the first to invest in? *video light *extension ring with focus knob *external monitor *... Any must read books or great workshops on dslr underwater videography? Looking forward to hear some opinions and hear some tips. Thanks in advance!
  20. Hello I'm selling two Keldan Video 4X lights in good condition including a total of 4 battery packs. I will post some pictures of them tomorrow. I would also include a spare set of O-rings (unused, the O-rings that came with the lamps are still in perfect shape). If you are interested, please send me a PM. The lamps currently live in Preston, UK and would prefer to not travel too far on their own (i.e. I'd rather sell them in person so you can have a look at them when you buy them). I'm only selling them because I've now switched to only taking pictures. I absolutely loved them for video! The price tag for all of the above is £1900.
  21. Hi, As the topic clearly states, I'd like to start a healthy debate on lighting when shooting video underwater. I really don't use lights for many reasons such as we shoot in water with many particles/planktons, I don't shoot at night, I don't like to disturb the creatures, etc... I would like to leave the reasoning for the forum members. I will try to start a poll and if I couldn't, I'd like the administrator to help in setting up the poll. The questions about when is lighting more effective. 1) do you use lights all the times? 2) do use lights for macro only? 3) or you don't use lights at all? In the reply to the topic, members can elaborate on the reasons for or against lighting. Regards, Thani
  22. Helping a friend sell (2) Sola 1200 and (1) Sola 2000 video lights, all in great condition. $300 each, $550 for 2, $800 for all 3
  23. They only have 60 degrees of coverage, but I am wondering if anyone has purchased a set and used with a gopro or some other camera underwater. It appears they sell gel diffusers as well, so I'm look at them strictly for compactness / convenience / price http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1192935&gclid=CL6Ek8767s0CFUpZhgodMj8Jxg&Q=&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C92051677682%2C&is=REG&A=details Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated!
  24. Hey Guys, I came from the world of topside photography and since going under the surface with my gear i haven't looked back up! I am a PADI dive instructor working on Tioman Island, Malaysia. I shoot with canon 5d mkiii, ikelite housing. This was taken with my canon 16-35mm mkii lens and natural light (sunset time) Post production tweaks in lightroom. (exposure, lens disstortion, colour correct, detail) I like the image but i feel it's missing something or maybe has too much of something else. Which is a general feeling at the moment with a lot of my images. Any constructive criticism's would be much appreciated!
