  7. Last month we made our second trip to Anilao - this time with a group of 15 photographers! Anilao as always delivered the goods with plenty of critters and some good wide angle opportunities too! Credit has to go to Anilao's guides though - they make the destination world-class allowing long bottom times and finding all the critters so we can fire away with our cameras! There's a full trip report plus the results of our Anilao photo competition on our website Here's one of our favourites!
  8. Hello all, The folks over at the SEA International Photo and Video competition (NCUPS). have announced the winners of this years Video competition. They run a great organization, and I recommend anyone who is interested to enter in next years competition. This year I was lucky enough to have placed in first place in the Classic category. I have to admit, I am pretty excited about this, as this the first competition I have ever entered. Have a look if you have a few minutes. Feel free to Share, Like, and Comment on it. I value all the opinions here on Wetpixel, so if there are things that you think I could do better, please feel free to chime in. I am always looking to improve. Thanks, Dustin https://vimeo.com/66011703
  9. The Tubbataha area must be pretty badly charted as it seems many ships are running into reefs often. The lastest is a Chinese ship carry endangered Pangolins. Just 2 months back, a US warship ran agroundon a reef as well and caused much damage to the reefs. Even Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior ran aground there. This is on top of the various liveaboards which have also hit reefs in the past! But like this interview suggests, it's best to ask the locals and use the same GPS system they use!
  10. Hello all: I was in the Philippines this last month, and had the good fortune of being able to film an extremely rare nudibranch. The Kalinga Ornata! To my knowledge, this is the only video of the nudibranch in a natural and behavioral standpoint. Even Roger Steene hasn't seen this nudibranch yet! After reviewing my footage that evening, I noticed that I caught it eating a Brittle Star. With it's translucent body, you can see the star moving around in the body. I didn't know it was feeding when I was shooting it. So that was a pleasant surprise! I am sorry for all the junk in the water. It was a very silty dive site, and being a night dive, my lights were attracting all sorts of critters. Let me know what you think of the video, and if you have ever seen this nudi before either video or photo. Thanks, Dustin
  11. I have finally was able to do a quick upload(but not fully edited) gallery of my recent trip to Moalboal and Malapascua Philippines. Had a great trip, nice resorts and surprisingly good results with Lightroom on WIndows Surface Pro 128 tablet as my 'laptop;. I can write more later about resorts, diving, how to get there, or the Surface Pro if anyone is interested.. 13. Hey Folks, A group of 7 of us are taking a well deserved break in the Philippines for Christmas. We would like to hear any suggestions on areas to stay in either Peurto Galera or Anilao, (Mabini?) Some of us dive, all of us snorkel, so we are looking for somewhere laid back and not too resorty/touristy but good for diving but are not fussy about being close to dive shops. Thoughts please!
  14. My girlfriend and I are considering a 2+ week trip to the Philippines this Sept/Oct. Will be the 1st time for both of us. Was thinking Anilao and then a more Pelagic friendly destination. Few questions for people in the know: 1) Is it OK to go and dive this time of the year? It seems that this will be during the monsoon season... Is it miserably wet? Is vis affected too much? 2) Can anyone recommend any good resorts? Seems like Club Ocellaris is the place to be in Anilao... 3) What Pelagic site would be best this time of year? Malapascua looks good... September was mentioned as "Manta Month" in 1 article I read. Thanks for any help! Jay
  15. Has anyone stayed at either Club Ocellaris or Aqua Ventures in Anilao? Thinking of going in about a month, so will still be the wet season there. Any color regarding the quality of diving, accomodation, and food would be appreciated. Do their locations limit their diving in anyway relative to other resorts in the area given geography or weather? Trying to decide between these two but if you have any other thoughts on other resorts, would appreciate that as well. Thanks!
