  6. Much as it hurts me to do this. I’m putting my barely-used and mint-condition Sony A6500/Fantasea underwater kit up for sale. 12 months ago I foolishly tried to buy my way into a better work/life balance, with more time spent underwater. But I have failed resoundingly. So the kit has been used on a grand total of a single one-week dive trip in the Maldives in January last year, and hasn't got wet since, so it's in as mint a condition as used kit can be really. The image quality this compact little kit puts out is really quite exceptional. Comparing the results to what my dive buddy was getting with his Nauticam/D800e setup, it really wasn’t giving up a lot (with added bonus of terrific 4k video as well). The phase-detect autofocus is Sony’s latest tech, and performs terrifically (even in dim, and murky water). The image quality is fantastic, and the housing is compact, comfortable in the hands, and as easy to operate underwater as the pricier aluminium options (Fantasea really have done an excellent job with the ergonomics). I’ve sold off the more specific lenses and ports, so this is basically the base Fantasea kit. The flat port paired with the nifty little 16-50mm will let you easily expand with Fantasea’s excellent wide-angle and macro wet lenses (which allow you to shoot both wide-angle and macro in a single dive). And to make life easier (and reduce the stress of taking so much expensive kit beneath the waves) there’s also the terrific Leak Sentinel v5 Vacuum System (with LED indicators), and a moisture detector in the housing itself. The kit includes: CAMERA: Sony A6500 Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 3x Sony NP-FW50 Batteries HOUSING: Fantasea FA6500 Housing for Sony a6500 and a6300 Fantasea FML Flat Port 34 Leak Sentinel V5 SeaLife Flexconnect Dual Tray 2x SeaLife Flexconnect Ball Joint Adapter SL999 (male) 2x SeaLife Flexconnect Grip 6x SeaLife Flexconnect Flex Arms 2X Sea & Sea Fibre Optic Cables Spare O-Rings, grease, vacuum pump etc. etc. So get yourself some cheap happiness at the mere cost of my misery/failure! $4,900 AUD worth of practically new kit, yours for $3400 AUD / $2300 USD + Shipping Pickup available from Melbourne, Australia. Or I can ship it wherever you need. Cheers, Mark

  10. Hi, Looking to upgrade from my current gear. After a bit of research and reading these forums the Sony A6500 with Sony 10 to 18 F/4 lens in a nauticam housing (with 7" dome) appears to be the best to suit me. Currently one Inon 240Z strobe (would like 2 but $$ limiting at moment with upgrade of gear). I do a lot of technical wreck diving (with camera) (typically 30 to 65 metres) and also shallow reef/muck photos. Have had a great couple of years playing with my Canon with 18 to 55 lens and 50 mm macro. Any thoughts / experience with the Sony A6500 for underwater photos? Interested in the low light capabilities.... Comments or advice? Thanks!
  11. Hi all! I was quite active as a beginner here a few months ago, asking lots and lots of questions mostly about Nikon FX and the Nauticam WACP. I reached the conclusion that the D850 I already own with a WACP should be my best bet for optimum quality, but held off purchasing simply because of cost. Since then I’ve been thinking, and I’m now investigating other alternatives. Reasons for doing so include * size and weight (topside) of WACP solution, especially when travelling. * yes, cost. * not being sure I’ll be happy with having 25 mm (70 mm x 0.36) as my longest focal length. The alternatives I’m now looking at all include the WWL-1, which I gather is in many respects the equivalent of the WACP (albeit a removable wetlens) for smaller sensors. My plan with this post is to ask you whether I seem to have understood things correctly. I’ve been looking at two camera and three lenses. The Sony A6400 with 16-50, and the Olympus E-M1 MkII with either 14-42 or 12-50. Camera-wise the A6400 would give me about an extra stop of sensor performance. In fact, make that two stops at base ISO since A6400 goes to ISO 100, E-M1 to 200. (DxOMark and photonstophotos don’t quite agree though, I don’t quite know what to make of that.) I should also get a significantly better AF with A6400. The E-M1 on the other hand would give me IBIS and 2/3 stops better flash sync (1/250 s I believe, 1/160 s on the Sony). In fact, the Sony would lock me at 1/160 s or slower even if I turned off my strobes, since that’s what it does when the popup flash is raised. (The slow sync speed of the Sony should, in scenarios with sunlit backgrounds, be offset by the sensor’s theoretically better dynamic range at base ISO, but being locked at 1/160 s is still a bummer.) As for lenses, the 14-42 allows full zoom-through, giving full-frame equivalent of 10-30 mm with the WWL-1. This is better than the WACP. Using the 12-50 it vignettes until at 16 mm, giving maybe 12-36 mm equiv with WWL-1 assuming full zoom-through, which is still highly respectable by my standards. On the Sony side the 16-50 vignettes until 20 mm, giving 11-27 mm equiv. HOWEVER, if I use the bayonet mount the WWL-1 is easily removed, quickly opening up mid-range focal lengths should I need them. This is not possible with the WACP. Being behind a flat port I guess I need to go to maybe 40 mm (equiv) or so before getting rid of the most horrible corner issues, so there will be a gap in usable FOV:s but I think that will be ok. Also, I’m not sure but I think I should be able to use e.g. the SMC-1 with all of these lenses. I’m not sure how that would compare to a dedicated macro lens, but it should give me wide-angle, mid-range and macro on the same dive, which again would not be possible with the WACP. Of course I would be sacrificing resolution and dynamic range if I’m not using my D850. I have a couple of follow-up questions. But as a start – does this sound about accurate?
  12. Hi everyone I am trying to make up my mind about the Seafrogs ( or Meikon ) housing for Sony a6500. The price point is very attractive but I need some real life trusted feedback about their new interchangeable port housings rated at 60m. i've seen some reviews out there but most of them are surfers not divers. Has anyone purchased their housing and dived with it? What is your opinion about it?
  13. I am looking for Nauticam housing for Sony A7III. I know it will be very difficult to find one since the release of camera is quite recent. But I still wanna take a chance to look for used housing with a great shape/condition. Currently just looking for the main body housing since the port setups are quite ready. Thanks!

  15. Went down to Antarctica in March (7 days on the peninsula). We made it down past the polar circle to 66˚ 33’ 47.5’S and were able to dive under an iceberg in Crystal Sound where a friendly and curious crabeater seal chose to spend some time with us under the ice. A pretty magical experience. A few photos embedded here. 16. Hi guys, I own a Sony alpha6500 housed in a Nauticam system. I was wondering if anybody can advice on the best combo MACRO lens plus port. Cheers Francesco
  17. I am in the process of upgrading to a different camera system. For sale is my barely used RX100 with Recsea housing. The following is offered for sale: Sony RX100 Mk1 with extra batteries $275.00 Recsea Housing $300.00 Sea&Sea YS-01 Strobes $250.00 each
  18. Has anyone here tried mounting a Nauticam WWL-1 on a Meikon a6000 housing to use with the 16-50 lens? The lens is one of the recommended lenses to be used with the a6000/a6300 and the WWL-1. It seems odd to be putting such an expensive wet lens on a cheapo Meikon housing but I'm trying to take baby steps to get where I want to be. I've been shooting on an old Oly E-PM1 rig and soon found out that I've outgrown it. I'm a photographer/videographer by trade and own several high end cameras (A7rII, A7s, 5D3, GH3, C100) for my work, but wanted to start slowly with my underwater rig to make sure that it's something that I'd like enough to continue. I've found that while the E-PM1 was nice to learn on, I'm missing the responsiveness, AF, and quality of files of my higher end cameras. This leads me to the a6000 and the WWL-1. Eventually, I'd like a Nauticam a6500 w/16-50 to be used with the WWL-1 and a CMC. I have a pair of Sea & Sea 110a strobes that I'll be using with the a6000. In the meantime, I've found an inexpensive a6000 with a Meikon housing and 16-50 lens that might be a good stepping stone to the a6500 w/Nauticam housing. Since the front of the Meikon port has a 67mm thread, would the WWL-1 mount and work with the a6000 & 16-50 combo the same as it would on a Nauticam housing?

  22. I have a question for owner of Gates housings with threaded ball mounts on the top of grip handles. Could you please tell me how significant is a problem with threaded ball mounts becoming loose? In the review of Gates AX700 / Z90 Housing (Sony FDR-AX700 / HXR-NX80 / PXW-Z90 / PXW-X70) by Karena and John Ellerbrock (owner of Gates), they pointed out on a problem with threaded ball mounts: "Ball mount on the top of the grip handles have been ¼-20 threaded type for over 20 years. They worked well, but have a tendency to rotate loose. Especially when re-positioning GT14 lights. So we fixed it. Within 3 days of our return to the office, a new design was done and headed to production. No more loose / spinning ball mounts." To address the problem, they developed no spin ball mounts, which are sold separately for $94 a pair (!). How big is this problem to spend additional $94 to address this design flaw? Also, have you experienced any other problems with this housing? Many thanks.
  23. FS: Sony A7RII Body with Nauticam A7II Housing including Nikonos Bulkhead and Backscatter Airlock Vacuum and Port lock system, charger and 3-Sony Batteries The housing is lightly used and comes with a Nikonos bulkhead which I did not use. In the photo, you will see the LED wires for the Turtle TTL LED trigger which is easy removed. The Turtle trigger is not included with the camera and housing purchase. You will find that the airlock system and gauge gives tremendous peace of mind when taking your expensive camera, lens and housing into the water. This unit has never been flooded and the original boxes and tool kit are included for both the housing and the camera. The camera has 11,527 actuations according to A7info. (cool program). I love the 42 MP of this camera and have found that even with a very heavy crop you can end up with excellent images. Put another way, you can totally blow the shot and still end up with a 4 MP excellent photo after cropping. The equipment was most recently used during a Cozumel trip in early December 2018. All equipment operates as intended and the only reason for selling is that I have purchased an A7RIII. Screen protector installed and will come with caps and original Sony neck strap. Paypal accepted Shipping FOB the Philadelphia PA area at buyers cost. I would like to sell as a 4-piece set including housing, camera, charger, 3-Sony Batteries and Backscatter pump system $3650.00
