  1. Helping a friend sell (2) Sola 1200 and (1) Sola 2000 video lights, all in great condition. $300 each, $550 for 2, $800 for all 3
  2. New to the boards AND to diving. As a professional freelance cinematographer and burgeoning diving enthusiast, I am asking the obvious question: should I expand my freelance services into underwater video? Anyone have any professional experience, advice, or info on this? I am wondering how crowded the field is for a freelancer, and how many jobs may actually be available? And, what sort of jobs they usually are (rec diving VS tech diving, etc.) It sounds like the GoPro has largely hurt this industry, but I am wondering if there is still much (or any) work left in it? I would not be relying on it as a career, rather an expansion of my own already existing services. Even $15k a year worth of gigs could be enough to justify involvement... but I am wondering if even that is feasible? This isn't an immediate thing for me - I know I am going to need a great deal more dive experience first until I would look into this. But when that time comes, I am wondering the process to get plugged into the industry and what I might expect, any steps I can take in the meantime to prepare (if it is even worthwhile)? Thank you!

  4. Hi Folks, I am off to (hopefully) video giant mantas and I need some advice. I want my Canon 7D Mark 2 to follow focus as a manta swims closer. Previous attempts were not highly successful - I know there are several different focus modes in the submenus and wonder if any of you have any recommendations. Thanks.
  5. Light and Motion Stingray Plus Camera and housing, plus 2 that's right, 2 Sony HDR XR-200 cameras, Light and Motion all aluminum housing, arms and lights, to include 4 fish eye lights (2 1000lm and 2 500lm) 3 additional replacement handles, 4 o-ring kits, 2 sets of handle batteries, 2 chargers with extended battery, battery is good for 4 dives, carrying suitcase with dividers, optional go pro or utility top mount (quick connect) and all manuals. Used less than 100 dives. Asking $800 for all included obo, plus shipping. I live in a VA if interested in pick up. I accept all major credit cards as well. I'm looking at upgrading but otherwise an awesome camera set up. All you see here is included, suitcase is a great way to customize, it's light and secure. I can send sample video upon request and can be reached at dbuky1@gmail.com if you prefer. Great for the diver that wants to get into videography with all manual control capabilities. $3500 plus invested in to this whole set up, but I need to get rid as I want to upgrade to a much much larger system. HDR storage is 250 gig! I spent 3 weeks in Micronesia and didn't even fill the driver. Sony compresses the files well and allows for mass storage. There is also the option to add a memory card for additional storage. Great housing with only one port to seal. It is double sealed O rings and leaves the worry of flooding on the surface. All aluminum housing and infared controls make for ease of operation. Built in flip down red filter and you're in business. Please let me know if you have any questions, all serious offers will be considered. Thanks
  6. HMC40 with Equinox HD8 Underwater Housing $1,500.00 In Wilmington NC. UPS Ground shipping estimate in the United States: $50-$75. Contact: Matthew McCoy, 910-620-1011 or PM me I'm selling because I've moved from the Bahamas and won't have much, if any, use for the setup anymore. Please contact me with any questions. I can also do a Skype call if you'd like to see the equipment and get a video walkthrough. Includes: Panasonic HMC40 high definition profession camcorder Manufacturer details here: http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/ag-hmc40pj.asp Lens in pristine condition All buttons, dials, lens controls, displays, and recording options work Very solid and reliable camera! Body has some minor cosmetic scratches on bottom from tripod plate 205 hours Lens hood included, but the cover is missing Equinox HD8 housing designed for HMC40 Controls: focus, exposure, white balance, zoom Power on/off and record stop/start on separate arms** Dome port and flat port (for macro and zooming) Rated to 200 feet Includes a set of unused gaskets Marshall V-LCD50: 5” high resolution HDMI monitor-fits on back of housing Has custom mount on rear port, but I use electrical tape to fully secure it There is glue residue along the backside of the monitor from using electrical tape to prevent it from moving back and forth. Battery Charger and camera wall charger 1 IDX high capacity battery (SSL-VBG50) 1 Panasonic regular battery Kingston class 4 32 gig SD card (handles all in-camera recording formats) Lens Filter: Circulare polarizer, .9 ND and 1.8 ND Red filter for housing AV out cable for surface monitors Wide angle and macro adapter Removable audio adapter: AG-MYA30G 2-channel XLR and Panasonic MIC150 shotgun mic ** Originally the housing came with one arm to turn the camera on/off and to hit record. This did not work well, very cumbersome and completely unreliable. I switched some arms around, and the photo arm now independently hits the record button. I had to attach an allen's key to make it line up. I tried to get Equinox to send me a custom arm, but they would not without the housing being sent back in. Ideally the arm and allen's key would be welded together, but I did not want to do that in case there was a desire to return it to its original configuration.

  10. I'm moving from my D300 to a D810. I have been using two Ikelite DS161M strobes. I would like to get some of your opinions on possibly switching to video lights (BigBlue 15000) capable of producing 1500 lumens up to 15000 lumens. I would like to shoot some video and my thought process was that using really good video lights would provide the necessary lighting to accomplish both. (I might be wrong) Please let me know your thoughts about this.

Others appreciate the moody solitude, the green surrounding darkness of the depths, or the beauty in all the small details around. 15. Has anyone on this board used a GoPro macro lens- Either the macro-mate or the polar? Usually I'm not a huge fan of the GoPros but it's what I have for a trip starting Monday and I'm curious if anyone has had decent macro results with one.

  17. hi folks, My old Sola 600 photo light is getting meaner and meaner with me. The charging contacts are extremely difficult to connect with, and after i charged for hours and left all indicators green, when i turned on the light it started blinking red!!! Too bad, so i am looking for another light, and it won't be a Sola. The recent announcements on wetpixel front page about several Fisheye FIX Neo light models caught my attention, in particular those two: -Fix Neo 1500 DX SWR: 599 USD -Fix Neo 1000 Mini WR: 299 USD Two very different price tags i know, but i am not sure yet how much i am ready to spend. Fix Neo 1000 Mini WR The cheaper one seems to match quite well the specs of my Sola 600, except: -the red light that is only 100 lumen (Sola had 250 lumen), i am thinking it's too low. If i were still shooting on Nikon D7000 OK, but this nice little Olympus OMD-EM5 doesn't have such a strong autofocus... -the ASO (auto shut-off) feature seems interesting, but i am not sure i like it: yes it would be nice to avoid the light's lighting to ruin strobe positioning efforts, but at the same time, this turns off the light for 1 second, i am wondering whether this would be annoying, i don't realize how long it seems in real life. Also, i am wondering how the battery holds between 2 charges (i usually dive once a week, and don't want to be re-charging the light each time). Fix Neo 1500 DX SWR Just looking at the specs, this light is a killer! It has all i need, plus the choice of keeping your light sealed while you charge (like the Sola) or to swap batteries for more flexibility... I am surprised it doesn't include the ASO feature, but since i am not sure i like it, that's not a deal breaker. So specs are great, but i have no clue on the usability of such a dive light: how easy is maintenance (when you swap battery), o-rings greasing each time? Feels safe or is it a single/scary exposed o-ring? What about manipulations underwater? And a question that applies to both lights: how reliable are the battery statuses? As you understood, this is the pain point on my current light, i cannot trust it at all. So i would really enjoy reading any experience you may have on those lights, or on other lights of that same range if they share similar designs. thanks Nicolas
  18. Would love to hear your experiences, any links to photo/video, and recommendations of lenses and ports which have been successful. Any situations where it does/does not work well would be great. ie: natural ilght, video, low light, etc.
  19. Despite being new to underwater photography / videography I rather ambitiously bought a duel set of Bersub video lights of fleabay that are powered by a hefty sized battery canister (dry weight 1.7kg, diameter 80mm, length 200mm). The umbilical cables are no the wet type so can not ('should not' is probably a better description) be removed underwater. I am using an S95 in an ikelite housing on a dual arm tray. As I see it have two options; Mount canister on the camera, under the tray Mount canister on myself, say on the waist strap Given the relative size of the the idea of mounting the canister under the camera is not very appealing to me. The canister will be negatively buoyant so I would have to think about buoyancy arms or floats to make it manageable. On the other hand if I hang the canister on me then ditching the thing in case of an emergency becomes harder, also I foresee kitting up and entries taking more thought. If I waist mount like a traditional battery canister I would need to undo the waist strap and loosen my whole diving harness to take the camera off. Even in non emergency situations it would be nice to detach the canister more easily if say I am handing the camera rig up someone in a rhib. Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated.
  20. Hello Underwater friends, I am selling my Sony EX1R video camera with 2 x SXS 16gb cards, card reader, 1 x BPU60, 1x BPU30 battery. The camera has 268 hours on it and is in excellent condition. There is only a small problem with a touchy profiles button on the rear control panel. This is a bit sticky. The Gates housing is also in excellent condition with DF1000 moisture alarm, top carry handle, side handles, trim weights, red filter and fitted with a port for the Gates pressure check system. It does not come with any front port as I will be upgrading my system and keeping the old one. The price for both is AUS$6500. If somebody really wants the SWP44 wide port, the external viewfinder or any other bits, I am open to negotiation. Both camera and housing have been well maintained and I have a bunch of spares and o-ring kits to go with. They were last used together in July 2014 for some news/documentary filming for the ABC. Comes securely packed in Pelican Cases. I am located in Australia and would prefer to sell locally.
  21. I am selling my Dive and See 7" HDMI external video monitor. I have used this monitor on my Amphibico Rouge housing, but I have sold the housing without the monitor so I now no longer have a need for it. I have all the cables and bulkhead fittings for both video and DSLR housings (the Rouge uses a larger diameter bulkhead). I also used it on a DLSR housing prior to the Rouge. I have right angle HDMI to HDMI mini adapters for DSLR use. It's an exceptionally good monitor that is extremely rugged. It has the DVI mode so that you can send clean HDMI to it that does not lose sync and blank out momentarily when you start recording like the cheaper monitors do. It has a screen protector on it, so the actual plexiglass viewport has never been exposed to any possibility of scratching. Retail with all of the cables and bulkheads was a little over $2800. Will sell for $1250 OBO. Since I no longer have a housing, I'm a highly motivated seller. PayPal OK. The monitor is currently in the US and packaged for shipment.
  22. Hi all! I'm a documentary filmmaker who just wrapped up 6-months of shooting a documentary series on the invasive lionfish in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean. As a filmmaker, I bought a nauticam housing for my Black Magic Pocket Cinema camera to be able to shoot in beautiful RAW with a flat picture profile. It takes some coloring once you're done, but the results are pretty great. I'm moving back away from the sea, so I won't have time to pursue my new underwater video passion for a few years. But this is an awesome setup (and small, light, and generally easy) for someone who is looking to really get into underwater filmmaking. DOME fits Panasonic 7-14mm lens and a few other lenses, I believe. Everything is in great condition. I rinsed each piece of equipment thoroughly after each dive and lubed up the O-Rings before almost every dive. The housing has never been flooded and comes with the electronic vacuum check. NOTE: You will need to replace the battery for the vacuum seal to work. They're cheap. A couple of small notes: - The nauticam doesn't line up perfectly with the record button, so you'll need to put a tiny bit of padding on the grip of the Black Magic (I use a bit of microfiber cloth folded twice) to line up the record button with the actual depressor. It works fine once you spend a few minutes getting it right. - The dome has a small buff on it. Not sure when or how it got smudged, but it doesn't show up in any of the underwater footage. If you're above water and pointing it against a blue sky, you can see it at the lenses widest angle (7mm), but zoom in at all and you can't see it anymore. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
