  2. I am wanting to get a setup I can take on every dive with very little hastle. DSlr is fine and all for when I want to take photos, but i find myself wanting to go diving more and more without a big rig and still be able to shoot. I also want to get into video a bit more. So is my best option a compact that shoots HD video and get a video led light? the Go Pros look great and all .. but I think I would like a bit more control and to see what I am shooting etc. Compacts have come a long way since I last owned one .. i see a lot of people talking about the Sony RX100, What else should I look at .. any experiences anyone ?
  3. Hello everyone, I finally got my video together from my April trip to Lembeh Strait. What a fantastic dive destination! We had the pleasure of staying at NAD Lembeh Resort and they were great. Macro with DSLR can be challenging! Please tell me the things you think I could improve on. I am always looking to improve, and only being able to do 2 dive trips a year, I try to learn as much as possible before I do a trip. Hope you enjoy it! Dustin [vimeohd]47703611[/vimeohd]

  5. My wife has been doing UW video for some time. Her camera is an old Sony (using mini DV cassettes for recording) in a Light & Motion housing. She wants to upgrade to an HD video camera. We went to a local camera shop that could only recommend a high end Canon & a housing that (combined) would cost a total of about $5,000; or a Go Pro. From one extreme to another. Does anyone have any recommendations for a camera & housing somewhere in the middle of these two?

  9. Hi there, I have the following setup i am selling as a package. I have been on no more than 15-20 dives with it, and it's a terrific starter setup: Canon Vixia HF20 (20 gig flash hard drive) Canon WP-V1 housing (I just ordered a new O-ring from Reef and will include that) Ultralight pan for WP-V! Ultralight handle and ball Everything is in perfect working order. It's a powerhouse little camera -- but even though it is only 2 years old it is now two models out of date. I have my hands full with my 7D, otherwise i'd hold onto it. I want to move this fast and am pricing this accordingly: $450 obo Many thanks!
  10. Hey guys, I in no way had anything to do with the production of this video, but I wanted to share it just the same. For me, the incredible editing shows waht is possible with our footage. So often we put together little videos of dives, and that's great, but there is a chance to tell stories with our footage. This video makes me think outside the box. Hopefully you enjoy it too. PS Paul Heinerth and Brian Kakuk provided the deep footage on top of their duties as safety. http://vimeo.com/45075681 This is the visual poem of William Trubridge's world record freedive to 100 meters (one hectometer, basically one football field length and back) in order to bring light to the plight of the world's smallest cetacean, the Hector's Dolphin of New Zealand. With one breath of air and diving without weights, fins or any propulsive assistance, William descended to 101 meters in the waters of Dean's Blue Hole, Bahamas, the deepest blue hole in the world. This short documentary of the record attempts to transmit what it is like to freedive deep beneath the surface, and how we can return to explore our potential as an aquatic mammal in the search to help our endangered cousins of the seas. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Directed and Edited by Matthew Brown Written and Produced by William Trubridge verticalblue.net Director of Photography - Matthew Brown UNDERWATER CAMERAS Jason Sapp Paul Heinerth Brian Kakuk Charlie Beede Brian Pucella Alfredo Romo Paolo Valenti Igor Liberti SURFACE CAMERAS Matthew Brown Nic Rowan Dolphin Footage - Liz Slooten, Steve Dawson, and NZ Whale and Dolphin Trust Music Composed by Christopher Ward Voice Coaches - Linda Trubridge and Gerry Dinnage TEAM VERTICAL BLUE AIDA Judges - Ute Geßmann and Ben Weiss Coach/Timekeeper - Brittany Trubridge Deep Safety Divers - Paul Heinerth, Brian Kakuk, and Jason Sapp Safety Divers - Charlie Beede, Brian Pucella, and Alfredo Romo Still Photography by Igor Liberti and Paolo Valenti whaledolphintrust.org.nz/nihectors.html Here's sort of the making-of/behind the scenes (basically bloopers) of the video, hehe tinyurl.com/73n99pz shot on the naked Canon HV40 (R.I.P) and edited with Sony Vegas
