  1. Hello,After much consideration I decided to sell my entire underwater camera setup since I simply have not been diving much anymore. While you can see all included components listed below and in the attached file ("G16 - included components.pdf"), please note that this is a COMPLETE SETUP that fits into the thickly padded AO Cooler bag and provides you with everything you need to dive straight into taking amazing pictures. All items have consistently been rinsed, cleaned, lubricated, etc. after dives, and everything is in great condition and operates without any issues. The asking price for the entire setup is $2,500, and I can either ship it or we can meet in the Los Angeles area. Accepted forms of payment are cash, Paypal, Venmo or bank/wire transfer. I will not accept personal checks or money orders. Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to answer anything you would like to know. Also, if needed, I can also provide you with references if you want to validate my credibility. All underwater pictures were taken by me with this camera setup and whatever you see in the pictures will be included in addition to some of the original boxes, spare o-rings, lubricants, etc.Thank you very much in advance for your interest, and I really hope this will find a good new home.Stefan

  4. Hi, I have been using my Subtronic PRO160 strobes (optic fiber) and Sea&Sea YS-D1 with a Nikon D800 successfully up to shutter speeds of 1/320 (always with optic fiber using a manual led trigger that I installed in a Nauticam Housing, with camera flash sync speed set to 1/320 auto-fp). I've upgraded my camera to a Nikon D850 in a Nauticam housing with Nauticam's manual led trigger installed as default. Yesterday I've tried my Subtronic's PRO160 UW for the first and they only were able to successfully light each photo if I used shutter speeds below 1/60 (the camera configured slower speed to use with flash in A & P modes). I was shooting in manual mode as ever, flash sync speed set to 1/250*(auto fp) (also tried setting it to 1/250 but no luck). When I used shutter speeds above 1/60 the bottom of the photos became unevenly illuminated or even black (depending on aperture, ISO and strobe power). Strobes are configured to fire with only one pulse from the trigger (as I always use). Later, at home, I've tested the strobes again and oddly they function normally until 1/200 (but at 1/250 they show the black bar at the bottom of the picture). I also tried my Sea&Sea YS-D1 and they also work normally just until 1/200 (they could have had low batteries so I will repeat the tests, but the Subtronics had full battery in the beginning of the dive). Anyone has any idea why this strange behavior? Why did they only work until 1/60 underwater? What changes to make them able to work at 1/200 at the surface? Why do they not work at the surface at 1/250 at least? I've tried everything I could remember (Camera in Single shot mode, M mode, EFCS off or on, no shutter delay activated, several combinations of aperture and ISO...). The only thing that I've changed besides the new camera, housing and new led trigger is the fiber optic cables: i used to use a 3mm optic fiber cable custom made by me (which I didn´t like because they were always failing) and now I use Nauticam standard cables (they didn't work at all with my other led trigger and the Subtronics, although they always worked with the Sea&Sea and also some INON's Z240 that I don't have anymore - all the way up to 1/320 with the D800). Any help would be appreciated: you never know when you will be busy fiddling with your camera UW and that great white will finally appear and gracefully swim by your side,, :-) Thanks, Miguel

  10. Hello, I’m having trouble getting my two YS-D1 strobes to fire similarly. I’m currently at work so will have to post more examples later. My kit consists of an EM-5 in Olympus housing, flash set to fill, fiber optic cables, each connected directly to housing, no diffusers, eneloop pro batteries, two 5+8 arms and using between F3.5-F8, 1/60-1/250 shutter. What I’m noticing is that when: Setting both strobes to TTL, EV+0, equally spaced, level with lens L strobe: Correct exposure, but does not fill left of the frame R strobe: Very under exposed, completely fills right of the frame. Will post example later. Trying to compensate R strobe L strobe: TTL, EV+0 as above R strobe: Manual, EV+full, slightly under exposed compared to left of frame, fills r side of frame. Will post example later. After playing with the settings more, to compensate R strobe L strobe: TTL, EV-.5, R strobe: Preflash (but camera isn’t using a preflash!), EV+1 ,and the strobes are finally within a ballpark intensity of each other. But the left still isn’t filling as much of the frame as the right. See attached image. Any idea what's causing this? Or, anything I can do before sending them out?
  11. Selling 2 x Sea & Sea YS-D1 Strobes. Excellent condition. All accessories. Extra set of o-rings. Free shipping to continental US. $800 Bob W
  12. I'm having a strange problem with shutter synchronisation on a Nikon D600 with twin YS-D1 strobes and fibre optic triggering, 105 mm macro. Mostly it works fine in macro at f22 but if I increase subject distance I sometimes get a black border on the bottom of the photo. If I open up to f16 this goes away. I'm not sure if I move farther from the subject at f16 if the black border comes back. I have the strobes on DS-TTL II mode (red ready light). Someone just showed me that slave TTL mode gets rid of this problem (blue ready light, engaged by long press on target light button). Can anyone explain or confirm that I should be using slave TTL and not DS-TTL II mode? Images attached: DS-TTL II mode - Slave TTL mode

  18. I have been having some Sea&Sea issues . I bought a pair of YS-D1's as my first set of strobes and after about 5 uses, the one just stopped switching on. Tested all and eventually contacted Manex Marine, the agents in South Africa, and sent it back to them by courier. Apparently they would send it to Japan fro investigation, repairs or spares - This was in November 2015 , since then not a peep from the agent or Sea&Sea. I ma currently following up with the agent but no answer yet.. A Deadly silence. I bought a Ys-D2 as a replacement as immediately as I was entered into a shootout the week after the YS-D1 failure and needed a strobe. I was syncing by sync cord and I must say that all the upgrades on the YS-D2 makes it such a great flash and a pleasure to use. Gone is the constant angst about moving a switch by accident and missing a shot when it counts. The colour coding on the settings and the ready beep also works great for me. However I had since had a small flood into my Hugyfot housing due to a failed O-ring on a bulkhead and the sync board in the Hugy housing is beyond repair. My Canon 40D and lens were not harmed, thank goodness. I then switched to dual fibre optic while I am waiting for a replacement card to arrive from Belgium. Now the problem: Setup: Hugyfoy Housing with optical pickup through bulkhead. Fibre optic cables from camera housing fibre optic pickup ( just a perspex plastic capsule through a bulkhead, no electronics, to a YS-D1 and a YS D-2. Camera Canon 40 D Settings: Manual, shutter speed anything from 1/50- 1/250 aperture from f2.8 -f32. Flash assist on camera is off. YS-D1 setting manual - no pre flash YS D2 setting Manual - no preflash - green mode When I trigger the camera, both flashes trigger but the YS-D2 does not have any effect on the image as if it does not sync. Switch off the YS-D1 , the YSD2 triggers with the fibre optic, but does not have any effect on image. Connect the YS-D2 via fibre optic to the optical output on my YS-D1 and problem remains the same. If I switch to manual with pre flash and make sure that the pre flash mode is set to factory default, the flash triggers at full power outset and the image is overexposed, as expected. In neither of these modes do I have any control over the output power via the Light output dial. WTF am I doing wrong or am I reading the manual wrong ? Please help.
  19. Hi there folks and friends, selling two Sea&Sea YS-D1 strobes, used about 10 times in the water, never flooded, and kept UBER clean by their anally-retentive owner. Selling because I want something with less power for my shooting style, (which is a strange problem to have, I know.) Comes with all literature, 120 + 100 filters, new orings + grease, ball attachments, & flat mount. Also selling two Sea&Sea Nikonos style sync cords for YS strobes, also kept immaculate, used same number of times. Asking $1,100 for everything, will pay for shipping from Florida, (no international though, sorry). Buyer pays Paypal fees. Any questions, please PM, and thanks!

  21. I have three Sea&Sea YS-D1 strobes for sale. I purchased these strobes last year and have used them on two week long vacations. All of the strobes come with everything just as new including the box and packing materials. See the attached pictures. Buyer pays shipping and PayPal fees from Cincinnati Ohio USA. New Strobe $575 Used Strobe $500
  22. Hello, I'm looking to buy pair of strobes for D7000 (YS-D2, Inon z240, YS-D1, DS160) or say what you have. Europe only.
  23. There are very different views on the gudie number values underwater: some use a factor of 2, some even 4(!) to estimate underwater GN from land values. Which is correct for clean blue seawater or 50m vis pool? I suppose color temperature also has a significant effect here, the 4200-4800K strobes getting punished for their nice warm light... E.g how do the inon z240's compare to the subtronic novas in terms of underwater working distance? (iso, f-stop being the same) Coverage might be the cause of confusion here, "flat port" strobes, like the inons, squeeze their beam underwater, e.g. the 100°-s of the z240 becomes 70°, approximately doubling the power/surface ratio. I guess a factor of 2 is sufficient for "squeezed angle" strobes, factors of 3+are for dome-port units, like the subtronics, seacam.
  24. For sale is an absolutely MINT condition Sea&Sea YS-D1 strobe. Used on a single 10-day trip. Maintained meticulously. Selling only because will be purchasing a new full rig that comes with two strobes already. It will come in original, intact box, with all accessories included: YS mount and screw, ball mount, diffusers x 2, silicone lube, Allen wrench, manuals. O-ring is intact and has been removed, cleaned, and stored in the battery compartment - make sure to replace before use. Price is $550 with free shipping to the Continental US.
  25. On a recent trip to Indonesia, I experienced what appeared to be a sync problem with my rig. Olympus E-M1 and Sea&Sea YS-D1 strobes. Looking to get a black background, I switched the camera from 1/200th to 1/250th. The result was a half exposed image. Searching the web, I found a thread from July 2014 on Wetpixel discussing the problem (http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53721). While a number of alternate setting combinations were discussed, there was no clear comclusion. My own feeling was that I shouldn't have to manipulate a number of settings in order to bump the speed and get a full image. Sure, changing other settings in conjunction might produce a better image. The two images demonstrate the problem. They're not particulary good in many aspects, but were shot of the same subject, the same distance, etc.. The only difference being one at 1/200th, the other at 1/250th. I sent a query to Sea&Sea describing the situation. Their response is pretty clear: Hello Bob, The SEA&SEA YS-D1 is designed to work with flash sync speeds up to 1/200. The strobes are not equipped for “high speed sync”, sync speeds greater than 1/200 sec. The strobe timing will not pair higher than 1/200th of a second, leaving a portion of the image dark. There is no update at this time if SEA&SEA will produce strobes capable of high speed sync. Thank you for your inquiry, Sea&Sea USA 2380 Mira Mar Ave. Long Beach, CA 90815 562-498-3708 I followed up by asking about the new YS-D2. Their response was the same: Hello Bob, I am sorry to inform you that the SEA&SEA YS-D2 will not sync in speeds higher than 1/200. Thank you, Sea&Sea USA 2380 Mira Mar Ave. Long Beach, CA 90815 562-498-3708 So it's pretty obvious that for those of us looking to achieve those stunning black background shots by using high speed strobe / small aperture shots, Sea&Sea YS-D1 and YS-D2 strobes are not the ones to use. If I had found this post before I bought my Sea&Sea YS-D1s, to replace my Inon S-2000s, I wouldn't have bought them. Maybe this information will help some of you. Bob W
