  1. Never flooded, no vacuum (leak sensor included), prism added for Fibre Optic strobes. Both housing and camera body in good condition and working perfectly. SD and extra CF cards included, plus 2 batteries and charger. Also spare O ring for housing and O ring grease by Nauticam. Housing recently serviced and new handles added. $2,000 plus postage or pick up in Los Angeles.
  2. A couple of weeks ago a Wetpixel reader emailed me directly and asked for my experience of moving from a Nikon D800 to the D500 specifically in a Subal housing. The reader thought the answer would be of wider interest to WP readers - so here it is. As I say, this is based on my own personal experience. I'm no pixel peeper or techno ninja - I just really like taking pictures underwater - so some might argue with techie detail or my choice of gear. Fair enough! "I’ve always been a keen macro shooter. Since about 2008, I've moved from a Nikon D300/Subal to the Nikon D800/Subal - and now the D500/Subal. I’ve also moved from electrically initiated strobes fired from the D300/Subal to fibre optic in the D800/Subal. I found the switch to fibre a really good experience. Fibre is so much more flexible and rugged and is easier for using TTL - which I like especially for macro. I make the point on strobes connections as I think it’s an important part of the D800/D500 consideration. FORMAT Both the D500 and the D800 are superb! I found with the D300/D500 and a DX sensor that using the Nikkors 60mm and 105mm worked well for macro. But with the D800 you only need the 105mm. With the FX sensor on the D800 the 60mm is too short. So with the D800 I only traveled with one macro lens and one port, the Nikkor 105mm and the Subal FP-105VR. I have got so used to the 105mm that, so far, with the D500 I’m only using the 105mm and have not gone back to using a 60mm. The D800 gives you LOADs of pixels which makes cropping easy and flexible - ideal for macro; and you can also switch to a DX image (with the Subal you can do this easily underwater) on the D800 which, then, effectively gives you a roughly 160mm macro lens - with no real loss of quality. So highly flexible. HANDLING Handling of the D500 or D800 is, in my view, broadly the same. The D800 Subal housing is slightly bigger (it’s slightly taller - for good reason which I’ll explain) but not hugely so. The controls between the two Subal housings are pretty much the same - the usual Subal high-build quality and superb “feel”. STROBES AND TTL Here’s the big difference: the D800 can fire strobes using fibre or electrical cables (although mine is only set up for fibre) initiated, in the case of fibre, by the camera’s pop-up built-in flash (hence the slightly larger housing). Electric connections use, of course, a hot shoe link to electrical bulkheads. However the D500 cannot initiate firing strobes on its own via fibre optics. There is no built-in camera flash on the D500. You therefore have to buy a strobe initiator - whether the Subal V3 system or a Turtle TTL or something like that. The electronics fits inside the housing and connects to the camera hot shoe and then to LEDs fitted inside the housing attached to the fibre optic bulkheads. When the camera fires, the strobe initiator flashes an LED which then activates the strobes. These initiators, in most cases, will also give you TTL - which comes automatically with the D800’s in-built flash. I bought the V3 system from Subal which is pricey but seems good - although I have had some initial problems with the LEDs failing - which Subal have replaced. WIDE-ANGLE The other thing I really liked about the D800 was WA shooting. I find the images amazing: sharp, beautiful colours - especially the blues. I have sold a lot of images from this especially from trips to the Red Sea. I’ve not yet had chance to test out the D500 in the same way but I really hope I don’t lose that D800 WA capability! SUMMING UP So, on balance, nothing really to chose from between the D500 and D800 by my experience so far in terms of image quality or handling. The only thing I would flag up is the additional cost of the D500 strobe initiator - which, as I have hopefully explained, you don’t have with the D500 and which you do get with the D800. I’ve had my D500 system about 3 months and have done one trip with it and shot about 3000 images. I’m really pleased with it. Was it really worth switching from the D800 with all the costs involved? Honestly, I’m not sure. The D800/Subal is superb. If I had realised fully the implications of the D500 not having a built-in flash to initiate the strobes via fibre optics (which I love!) - and the costs involved of doing this - I’m not entirely sure I would have made the switch. 3. Hi all, I've recently just upgraded to a Nikon D800 with Nauticam housing. I've only done a few dives with the new rig so far, unfortunately in pretty terrible viz, but have noticed a couple of issues with my wide-angle set-ups: - Nikon 17-35mm, & Nauticam 9" optical glass dome & 70mm ext ring. - corner sharpness is quite poor. - Tokina 10-17mm & Kenko 1.4x teleconverter, with Nauticam mini dome (for the 10-17) & 20mm ext ring - slight vignetting visible at its widest focal length. Is anyone using the same lenses as me but with different dome ports? how do you like the results? Is anyone using a Nikon 16mm fisheye on a D800? How does it compare to a 10-17 with a 1.4xTC? The 2 images attached: Nikon 17-35mm, Nauticam 9" optical glass dome & 70mm ext ring, 17mm, 1/200s, f9, ISO160, natural light. (The 2nd image shows the blur in the bottom-left corner of the 1st image). My general question to any D800 users (ideally, Nauticam users too) is, which wide-angle set-up do you find gives you the best results in terms of corner sharpness? Any advice is much appreciated, Cheers, Christian note to Alex Mustard: i read in a previous D800 post last year you may have written a piece discussing wide-angle lenses and domes for FX cameras? If you have, i'd love to have a read as i'm sure you have the magic answers! thanks.

There are no scratches on the rear LCD, and it comes with all original accessories including the hotshoe cover and rear LCD cover. 8. Looking to sell my Aquatica D800 Underwater Housing. I travel a lot and am finding the Aquatica too heavy. This is the ONLY reason for sale. Great set up, very reliable. I am looking to sell for $2500 US. Open to offers & questions. See attached pictures.
  9. Hi =) Need some help with my D800 housing. I've got it for around 4 years and it's all fine and perfect. The only thing is that the handle - specially on the right side - feels to far from the housing, making a bit hard for me to reach all the knobs on the side and back of the housing. Been surviving with that along the years, but now I had enough. he he he. Are there alternative handles that would fit the housing? Any suggestions? Thanks! Fernando

  11. Please click on this link for 11 more pictures: https://www.gugunderwater.com/gugs-personal-d800e-camera-and-housing-package-for-sale/ $6500 firm Selling my personal Aquatica housing setup, complete with Nikon D800E body, strobes, ports, AquaView Viewfinder, and tons of accessories. It’s in great condition, and it’s just undergone an overhaul and test. Some of the accessories may not be all that useful to you, but I haven’t factored them into the price, so just consider them a bonus, and maybe you’ll find something to do with them down the line. No one has ever used it other than me – I’m the 1st and only owner. Wild guess, 400 or so dives on it. Read below and/or check out the link to my website where I’ve included more pictures and another breakdown of the parts included. Now I’m going to try to answer many of the common questions: The D800E is a killer system for underwater – for those not familiar, the “E” designation means Nikon has omitted the anti-alias filter from this model, making for slightly sharper images on the appropriate subject matter – and everything underwater is the appropriate subject matter. The camera body has lived practically its entire life inside the housing – the safest place for a camera, and the reason the camera is in such excellent condition. I’ve never flooded the housing, and it’s just undergone an overhaul, cleaning, and test. Housing has never been flooded, and has just undergone an overhaul, cleaning, and test. The 9.25” glass Megadome by Aquatica is spectacular – simply the best optics for medium and wide-angle shooting. I tend to shoot the Sigma 15mm fisheye and Nikon 14-24mm behind it (lenses not included). However, it does have a scratch on it, but it has never shown up in my photos, and hasn’t bothered me. I’ve included a close-up picture of the scratch on my website. The flat port is in great condition, and I tend to shoot the Nikon 105 VR II, and the 60mm (lenses not included). This is the MF port, and the MF gears are included, giving you the option of shooting in MF or AF, or with the AF-ON button on the back, but I like MF personally. The AquaView viewfinder is AMAZING. It’s an expensive option, but you’ll wonder how you ever shot without it, and pity anyone shooting through a regular viewfinder. I’ve chosen the Ikelite DS-161 strobes (and the DS-125 before that) for my work ever since they came on the market. They are the best – hands-down. Fastest recycle, awesome power, awesome color and spread, and ultra-reliable and nearly impossible to flood. These are the LI-Ion version, which, as of a few months ago, are not available anymore – but not because of a quality issue – its simply because Ikelite can’t source the Li-Ion parts properly for a while. But the Li-Ion’s are slightly faster, slightly lighter, and have a smaller/lighter charger, and charge faster than the NiMH versions. Shame Ikelite can’t source the Li-Ion parts for now. They’ll probably be back soon. Serial #’s and manufacture dates shown in a photo on my website (click link above) Almost every original box and instruction manual is included. Some parts even have warranty cards that were never filled in, so you can submit for warranties. You’ll notice there are several accessories included that you might not have planned – I’ve been accumulating parts for years, and am planning on just giving them to you at no charge. Some are brand new, still in bag, and some are quite well worn. Some are specifically for this housing, and some are more universal, or can be modified to fit. So suffice to say, things like the extra two neoprene covers for the flat port, and a few zoom gears that I don’t know which lens they fit, are not factored in to the price – they’re just bonuses that I’m throwing in at no charge. Also please note, as a completely separate ad, I also have for sale another AquaView Viewfinder by itself. And an Aquatica complete Wave Video system with an HD Sony DSC 520 and an Ikelite PRO2800 LED light system. Call for details. TERMS OF SALE: I’d love to have you personally inspect everything at my Fort Lauderdale galleries – set up an appointment and I’ll make sure I’m personally working that day to run you through everything. For further questions, its 1000x easier to call than it is to email. The price is firm – no need to negotiate – I’ve already priced this at its best price from the start, so please don’t do it. If you can’t make it in person, we can also do a FaceTime call so you can see it over the phone. If you need it shipped in the continental USA, I’ll ship it insured FedEx ground for no charge. If outside the continental USA, I’ll get you a shipping quote using your postal code. Cash/check preferred, but in the case of a check, it will need to clear before shipping it or you taking it in person. I can also accept a credit card, but we’ll add credit card transactional fees of 2.75% for USA cards, and 3.4% for international cards. Please note that due to the high rate of fraud in international transactions, there will need to be additional security verification that may take additional time. Call my cell at 813-368-1826 or my gallery number at 954-579-8096. 24. I am selling a Ikelite D800 housing with a #5505.46 port and a sync cord. I have all the original boxes and paperwork. I only used this 1 time on my discover scuba dive and never took it past 30ft. It is in great condition. Asking $1200 for everything you see in the picture and port. But I can split up the items if necessary. I need to sell this before buying my m43 em1 housing. I will consider trades for an em1 housing as well. If I don't get any responses I will be putting it up on ebay soon. But I would like to avoid that.
  25. I am selling my Nikon D800 and Nauticam housing only because I have just purchased a D810 / Nauticam combo for the D810's video functionality. Both the D800 and the Nauticam housing are 9's. The base of one of the Nauticam handles has a slight crack in it. I can't find the English version of the Owner's guide for the D800. I am sure it is around here some where! Otherwise there are no issues with either. They were purchased less than a year ago and only went on 3 dive trips. I am asking $4800 for the pair but will sell separately at $1995 for the D800 and $2995 for the Nauticam housing. I will entertain reasonably offers. Price includes shipping within the CONUS. Payment via PayPal. Purchaser will have 3 days to check out the equipment and return it for a full refund it it is not as I have described. Though I am new to Wetpixel I have excellent feedback from transactions on FredMiranda.com with the username "JWalker" where I have been a member since 2004. I look forward to hearing from anyone interested in either or both pieces. Regards, Jamie
