  1. For Sale Is A Demo/Display Nauticam D800/Nikon Housing, it has never been wet but was used as a demo housing at trade shows and in store displays this housing does not have the vacuum hardware install but it can be installed by Nauticam as a service. The housing has some surface marks which don't allow us to sell it as new but it is a great chance for D800 owners to get a great housing at a great price. Here is the link on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nauticam-NA-D800-Housing-for-Nikon-D800-Camera-Open-Box-/171402534091?pt=US_Camera_Underwater_Housings&hash=item27e8631ccb
  2. PRICE: $3000 OBO Brand new MDX-D800, never touched the water. Bought it hoping it would be compatible with my new D810, but it is not. So if you could use a housing for your D800/D800E here is an opportunity to save a few hundred dollars (I also had to pay for shipping from mainland). http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/866438-REG/Sea_Sea_ss_06162_MDX_D800_Underwater_Housing_for.html I also have lots of other Sea & Sea accessories such as wide angle ports, extension rings, strobes, etc., for anyone that could use these or would like to make the investment in a complete setup. Happy to ship to any island (or back to mainland). Will consider any offers. Thanks, Kurt Chambers Big Island, Hawai'i
  3. Hi all, I'm planning to ask Nikon about the frustrating "slow to write" problem that occurs with the D800. This typically happens thus: When you take a shot, an hourglass (timer) appears on the LCD screen. The "card writing" light also lights up. It can take some time to clear. Taking another shot does not clear it, just extends the waiting time! I think this is common to most D800s, but it would be great if we can approach Nikon and say that many people are having the same problem. If you own or have used a D800 and either get the problem or don't, please add a post to this thread:) Many thanks Adam

  5. I just returned from a 2 week liveaboard divetrip to Raja Ampat and the Cenderawasih Bay whalesharks with my new D800 and Nauticam housing. The pictures were amazing, however that is not the subject of my current problem. I downloaded my NEF files daily from my CF card to a late 2010 Macbook Air using Nikon Transfer Mac ver 1.5.2. I kept my original cards except in one case where I copied the data of one CF card to an extra SD card and overwrote the source CF card when I feared I would run short of CF cards. I used Nikon Transfer to make this "safe copy" transfer. Bottom line, I have all my original CF cards, save one which has been 100% overwriten, a Macbook Air SSD HD with all card pictures transfered via Nikon Transfer. The problem is the NEF files are corrupt and can't be read by any (Captiue NX2, PS CS6, Lightroom, Bridge View NX2) software (all latest ver) ...... period. Adobe Camera Raw is 100% current and supports D800. While in Indonesia, I assumed the problem was Camera Raw, even though I downloaded the latest ver before I left, the D800 was too new for it. I have used a D300 for 5 years with Transfer without a problem so assumed it would work with the D800. None of my NEF's will open, period. After I got home, I had no internet in PNG, I have pounded the WEB and now see posts showing up stating that Nikon Transfer, all versions, corrupt the NEF file header irreversibly...... Solution is to make sure you use your computer operating system to drag & drop the files from your CF card to your computer and not use Nikon Transfer. I can overwite all but one of my CF cards which I blottod, 100% overwite; non recoverable. There is absolutely no recognition I can fing on Nikon's website. This is incredible and there is apparently no Fix. Sure, I will never use Transfer again, but I want a fix for my one card. Please, I don't need a lecture to always keep the source card, or advice to uce Rescue Pro to recover what I can. There is no recovery, card is 100% overrriten with NEFs. I did keep the source i just copied it from one card to another, unfortunately with the offendibg program. Carpure NX2 opens the thumbnail embedded JPG in the NEF which is garbage considering the corrupt NEF data, and I did shoot a small JPG in the camera which is OK, but again a massive disappointment to have to use out of a D800! I sure would appreciate you guys addressing my problem and also somebody needs to scream from the rafters to D800 users not to use transfer....... ever.
  6. Looking for a Nikon D800 alone or with Ikelite housing.
  7. I'm selling my Aquatica D800 system because my RED has bumped it to the bench. In addition to the housing and ports, I'm also selling my D800 body and lenses. The D800 is the best DSLR I've ever had, and I really hate to part with it, but I use all Canon glass on the RED, so it doesn't make sense to keep the D800 for a backup since I would have to maintain a full extra set of lenses. I'll be better off with a backup 7D body that can use the same glass as the RED. I bought the Aquatica housing and the D800 in August of last year and used it daily until January. Since I started shooting with the RED in January, the D800 has been on the shelf. So it has had less than 6 months of use. There are no issues with the housing, never a hiccup. I like it even better than my previous Aquatica 5DII housing which gave me 2 years of daily service until I switched to the D800. The system has two ports, a standard macro flat port and an 8" Acrylic Dome with shade. The dome is 3 years old but has only been in the water a few times so it is still in perfect condition (I was living in Lembeh Strait, so shooting mostly macro). The housing has two Nikonos style sync ports. It also has an electronic vacuum monitoring system installed. It also has an Aquatica Aqua View Finder (straight version) which gives you a gorgeous huge image to compose with. Also included is an Aquatica 18457 extension ring. The storm case that I'm including to transport the system does not have custom cut foam for the housing, I'm just using pieces of foam to cushion everything. Here's the housing portion of the system: Aquatica D800 Housing Aquatica Flat Port Aquatica 8" Dome Port + Shade Aquatica Aqua View Viewfinder Vacuum System Storm case $4500.00 Plus your choice of shipping. The D800 system includes the body with a 32GB CF card, a Nikkor 24-120 f4 ED VR Zoom (topside general shooting lens) and a Sigma 15mm f-2.8 that hasn't even been in the housing yet (already sold my 60mm macro). The camera has less than 5600 shutter activations. Comes with the normal accessories: battery, charger, USB 3 cable, manuals, strap and body cap. Here's the camera portion of the system: Nikon D800 Body Nikkor 24-120 f-4 ED VR Zoom Sigma 15mm f-2.8 WA 32GB CF Memory card Factory accessories $3600 Plus your choice of shipping I will sell the housing system and the camera system separately, but I won't break out individual items from either package. If you want to buy the whole works, you can have it all for $8000 and I will pay ground shipping anywhere in the continental US. The system is currently with me in Bali, but I will be returning to the US June 14 and bringing it with me. If you want it in this part of the world, let me know before June 13. Wetpixel members get first shot at this system. When I get to the US everything that hasn't sold is going on eBay with a reserve above the prices offered here. Here are a few photos of the components: Housing Front Housing Back Custom installation of vacuum system. Uses the "flash down lever" to activate. 10. I've ordered a Seacam housing for my D800 which will arrive in a few days. Since I would like to do a lot of half-half shots I decided to get the Superdome together with the housing. I'm affraid that for snorkeling trips where I don't have the chance for great half-half shots the SD is just a bit too cumbersome. Therefore I plan to get a second smaller domeport especially for snorkeling trips. I would use this domeport mainly with my Sigma 15mm Fisheye lens and quite often without any flash. With Seacam I have the following options: 1. Wideport WP 2. Fisheyeport FP 3. Fisheye Makro Port Which port would you recommend and why? I would like to have sharp corners (at least stopped down at f/11) and be able to shoot close up portraits of small fish. Boris
  11. Hi There, I'm selling my Nauticam NA-D800 housing and the Sigma 15mm lens for Nikon mount. The housing has only been used on one trip and is in pristine condition, barely a scratch on it. Never flooded. It's 3600$ new, asking $2700. Apologies for the lousy pictures, if you'd like a specific shot/angle I'd be happy to oblige. I'm only selling it because I've decided macro with full-frame is not for me. Some shots I took with it are here: http://www.toddbretl.com/Galleries/Isla-Guadalupe-2012/24866791_cbJxdc#!i=2038238015&k=D79XgGG The Sigma 15mm is in excellent shape, no scratches - hood, case, box included. $609 new, asking $500. http://www.backscatter.com/sku/na-17209.lasso http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/407595-USA/Sigma_476306_15mm_f_2_8_EX_DG.html Insured domestic shipping included in both prices. I've sold a few things on WP, search the forums for me and you should see those threads/feedback. Thanks, Todd www.toddbretl.com
  12. DxO Labs just released the 3rd page of their review about lenses for the D800. Unfortunately the test of wide angle lenses is not ready yet, but should be published soon. http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Publications/DxOMark-Reviews/Which-lenses-for-your-Nikon-D800 Chris
  13. I am thinking about a housing for my camera and am leaning towards the Sea Sea, but having a Little difficulty figuring out if I can use my strobes 160 ikelites. I am just guessing, but I'll bet it doesn't shoot TTL in the housing as it did with the Ikelite housing. That's ok, I can adjust to shooting manual all the time. If anyone has a sea sea housing with A D800, I would like to hear how you like it. Thanks and happy diving!
  14. I am going from an D90 ikelite set up to a D800,and would like some advice on a different housing. Small hands, 5’2” women, would like to be able to reach the controls.
  15. Hello there, After a few years, I now feel the need to upgrade my camera for underwater photography. I would be interested to buy a full package, must be nikon and at least as good as the D7000. Thanks for your offers. I'm a serious buyer. Regards, Camille
  16. I cam accross this article and was interested in the results the auther claims: http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/sigma-15mm-tokina-fisheye-review Showing that the Tokina 10-17mm is still a very versatile lens and still performs in FX. Would the Tokina 10-17mm @ 15mm provide a better image behind a mini dome/4 inch than a shaven Sigma 15mm FE? Or would a large dome give the best results for both lenses in FX? I would be interested if others out there have used the Tokina 10-17mm in Fx mode and what their impressions ans results have been like. Regards Mark
  17. Went down to Cabo for a few days and then out on the Solmar V to the Soccoros for a week in mid-January. It can always be a crap shoot, and the last trip I made (this is my third) was in January and was spectacular. This time we had wind a cool weather in Cabo for most of the 5 days. The islands really got beat up with hard rain and wind the week before we went. Fortunately it had improved as we left. Unfortunately the seas were choppy and the wind was still bad for the first couple of days. The viz was pretty bad, worst I've seen. Normally it's 80-100', but we had more like 20' horizontal and 40' vertical. We couldn't see our fins at Cabo Pearce. Frustratingly, there was pretty decent animal interactions, with lots of hammerheads and even a small (10-12') Tiger at Canyons, but pretty much impossible to shoot! Roca Partida had better viz, still not what I've seen there, but lumpy seas and strong currents. There was a small school of Galapagos sharks, but the group scared them away. Whales were in and a couple of lucky guys dropped in and go a few shots, of course they were gone went I went in... Finally, we got back to San Benedicto and El Boiler was ok, although very hazy, and pretty bad by the afternoon. But the mantas were playing, and over the course of 8 dives I managed to get some images I liked, by getting within a few feet. Several dives we had 2-3 even 4 circling us and enjoying our bubbles. Over the years, I've learned to just stay motionless and verical with my hand raised as if asking a question. They'll zoom by, stop, and circle right over me. They love the attention. Amazing for an animal thats 18-22' in width! Oh well, that's blue water diving for you. The next couple of week's trip reports had the viz back and conditions excellent. The crew on the Solmar V is fantastic, the old boat still works out quite well, great food, huge camera table and everyone had fun. We do have a charter in 2014 at the end of May concentrating on shooting bait balls and the huge schools of silky sharks that seem to congregate around Roca Partida that time of year. I'll have an announcement up soon. Here's a few shots. They were taken with a Nikon D800, Sigma 15mmFE, in a Nauticam NA-D800 housing and Zen 230mm dome port with 2x Sea & Sea YS-D1 strobes. This system is very easy to use underwater as it is neutral and fairly compact for it's capabilities. 20. Does anyone have experience with this combo? It works with the TC-20E III Teleconverter, despite the fact that Nikon states that AF won't work, so my guess is that it then also will work with the TC-17E II, but i'm not sure. Anyone? Udo
  21. Hi there, I am thinking of changing from my D300s to D800. Like you guys know I need to change my lenses. I am looking to buy the Sigma 15mm, Nikon 16-35 for wide. To makro I already have lenses. My question is, have anyone tryed to use D800 with S&S housing and opticaldome to the Sigma 15mm lens? Or is it the big S&S port that has to be used? /Mattias
