  1. Hello, does anyone have experience in building a own snoot with water tubes etc.? I tried to build one and also attached a laser pointer to see where to aim. But I have a problem to connect the plastic tubes with my strobes... Underwater it was falling off very often. Any tip or idea would be helpful! Thanks a lot :-)
  2. Just having returned from a couple of excellent weeks diving in Bonaire, I wanted to share a couple of thoughts: First - Big Thanks. I had a couple of "issues" with my camera gear during the trip. Post to Wetpixel and PMs were answered really quickly and helpfully by a raft of people. While not wanting to embarrass anyone - or miss anyone too - thanks especially to Chris, Tom, Pavel and Oskar at Retra for advice on a range of diverse issues. You guys are brilliant and kept me relatively calm and relatively sane. Excellent advice, quick replies, thoughtful ideas..... I have written this before, but I really do think think Wetpixel is an excellent community. Folks are so good to share their advice, experience and knowledge freely and helpfully. And, even better, WP seems to suffer with almost none of the utter cr*p and abuse that seems to ruin so many other forums (check out the BBC football (soccer) Have Your Say site!). Moving on (and again, apologies if I have't thanked anyone who chipped in)..... Like many on the forum I've gone from DX cameras (Nikon D100, D200, D300) to FX (D800) and have now done about 100 dives back on DX with a D500. Some conclusions which I thought worth passing on: FX vs DX - DX setups are slightly cheaper: a DX body costs less than an FX. - DOF is better on DX which is especially helpful on macro. - Though I was concerned that moving back to DX I would miss much of the image quality that I had on the D800, this has proved not to be the case. D500 DX is excellent. I must admit I don't make mega-prints and a lot of my output I (try) sell via agencies. No problems getting images accepted following the switch. I can't speak of course for the D850. - DX is easier on the WA port issue. I really liked the Sigma 15mm and the Nikkor 16-35 for the D800. The Sigma was easy to "port" but the 16-35 was, in my view, a bit of a devil requiring a 230mm huge dome port. (I've never tried though the Sea and Sea converter). That port was expensive and, for me, hard for travelling on European baggage allowances. By contrast the DX only needs either a 100 dome port or the DP-FE size. - The Nikkor 8-15mm works really well on DX between 15 and approx 11. Image quality is great. It works equally well with the DP100 or DP-FE - I'm still playing around with a 1.4 TC and, as I have reported elsewhere, I've found that the classic Kenko 1.4 DG Telepro300 won't work with my D500 and the 8-15. It does work with my Z6 but not on a D5. Go figure. As you might have read elsewhere and as others have confirmed, the Kenko 1.4 TC DGX will work. I'll get hold of one soon and try it. Bonaire - If you are thinking of diving Bonaire: I've been going since the early 2000s and found the reef this time around in the best health I have seen for some years. Definite signs of coral growth; work by the local agency, SINAPA, at coral growing; new anemones around with Spotted Cleaner Shrimps on them (not seen them for years) and, generally, reefs with clouds of brown chromis and the usual suspects going about their lives. - Snooting: if you fancy a stab at shooting, Bonaire is great place to try it out with lots of macro life. I say "stab" meaning I would encourage folks not to stab themselves in frustration over snooting. UW photog is tough enough dealing with moving critters, moving camera, moving photographer, moving currents, viz, blah blah. Snooting adds a whole new area of pain. But when you get it right... Sweeeeet.... a couple of pics attached. - We did all shore diving with tanks from Dive Friends. Friendly, very convenient with filling stations all over the west side of Bonaire. I can recommend them. We didn't do any boat dives. We never used DMs or guides. Navigation on Bonaire is easy - and the critters are not hard to find. Pedersen cleaner shrimps, Spotted Cleaner Shrimps, Yellowline Arrowcrabs, Gobies, the occasional whip coral shrimp, drums, jawfish..... Well just some thoughts

  8. For sale, Nauticam CMC-1 wet lens, equivalent to a +15 diopter. I'm selling it because I do not need it anymore. Great condition (a few tiny scratches with no impact on image quality), bought in October 2017, around 100 dives. Visible in Paris area. Possible to meet face to face in this area. Shipping at buyers costs worldwide. Nauticam Reference: #81301 Price: 249 EUR
  9. Make me an offer! The dome port has some light scratches and one more notable mark that could easily be buffed out. I'd include an acrylic cleaning kit I've used on various ports over the years to clean up small scratches. Dome port comes with neoprene cover and 2 port extensions (5510.11 & 5510.22). If the price is right, I'll throw in a Precision 5" dome with extension from UW Camera Stuff! Flat port is in great shape with Focus Extension (5510.75) and Port Extension (5510.16 I think).

  11. One of the best regarded divesites in Sydney is Shiprock. The site is on Port Hacking to the south of Sydney and the entrance is in suburbia, surrounded by expensive waterfront homes, it has an amazing array of life and being an aquatic reserve fish are plentiful. This is a shore dive and there are steep steps down a cliff face to reach the entry point and the site features a wall running from about 7 to 15m deep. It is subject to strong tidal currents and needs to be dived on a slack preferably high tide. Here is a google maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/Nq2mRe95rYu Had a really nice dive there last Friday and here's some pics, descriptions below the pic All taken with OM-D EM-1 MkII and Panasonic 30mm macro - Nauticam housing, INON Z-240 strobes: Pineapple fish are nocturnal and have a light producing organ that assists with their hunting. Shiprock is one of the few spots they are regularly found around Sydney dive sites. Sieve Patterned Moray, less common than the regularly seen Green Moray Ringscale Triple Fin, a small fish that claims sections of rock as territory, common at Shiprock but not so common elsewhere, Six Spine Leatherjacket, quite common of many dive sites, but tend to be skittish, this one is about 300mm long so a bit of a challenge for a macro lens A Pygmy Leatherjacket another common fish around Sydney they seem to have their tail curled around semi permanently Eastern Frogfish, an ambush predator hiding under one of the many ledges at Shiprock Doroprismatica atromarginata, quite common around Sydney and the only Nudi I found this dive, At other times the variety of nudis is much greater. Blotched Hawkfish, Shiprock is the only Sydney dive site I see these regularly

  13. I am thinking about selling my Sony mirrorless system and starting from new with Nikon D500. As the Sony / Nauticam equipment is large I need to check out first how realistic it is to sell. 14. Hey, I am selling my Nikon AF Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4D IF-ED Lens with the tripod collar professionally removed for use in a underwater housing. This is the highest quality lens I have ever used. Period. Possibly the best macro lens made. I am selling it as I just don't have the opportunity to use it enough. I need to make room in my bag for some new gear. The lens' tripod collar has been professionally removed for use in a underwater housing. I have the original tripod collar and will include it. If you wish, the collar can be reattached, but I would recommend shipping it to Nikon for this. The glass is CLEAN! I cannot find a fault in the optics. NO discernable scratches, dust, fungus, etc. There are two small cosmetic scratches on the exterior metal body. See pictures below. I would rate this lens 9.5/10. Includes: Lens, Metal Lens Hood (Nikon HN-30), Front and Rear Caps, Original Tripod Collar, and Original Instruction Manual. Asking $1000 + Paypal + Shipping. Please feel free to email me for more details or images: gregjaggearsphoto@gmail.com Thanks!

  16. Hey! I'm a pretty experienced photographer on land looking to explore the other 71% of our Blue planet. From reading WP, most gravitate towards either ultrawide (weitwinkel) angle or macro photography. Im focusing on Macro. Specifically, what is the optimal focal length for most macro opportunities underwater? Longer focal lengths allow for more realistic working distance with your skittish subjects, yet too much distance in even the clearest water can degrade sharpness. Asking those with experience to please float your opinions. Im blessed with a good amount of gear to play with, but can only afford to acquire a housing for one camera/lens combo at this time. My Gear: Nikon D800 (FX) and D500 (DX) Nikon 60mm f/2.8D Nikon 105mm f/2.8 VR Nikon 200mm f/4D Micro My Water: I'm a Florida native who will primarily be diving in the Keys and Caribbean.

  25. Now I have gotten my new setup (Nauticam and Fujifilm XT-2), I need to sell parts of my current setup. I'm selling a fully equipped and working configuration built around the Olympus EPL-7 camera with the PTWC-01 wide angle wet lens from Olympus. I bought it in Kuala Lumpur in November 2016 at Divers Den, a shop specialized in underwater photography. I will provide all the receipts. The housing has been always very carefully maintained, never been flooded and without scratch. I have dived with it 110 times or so. The package contains the following elements: Olympus EPL-7 Silver Camera Body (4846 clicks) Olympus M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 EZ Olympus Genuine Battery Charger + 2nd Battery BLS-50 Olympus Underwater Housing (PT-EP12) + Olympus Lubricant Olympus Anti-Reflection Ring for 14-42mm EZ (POSR-EP07) Deepshots 3D Printed Zoom Gear for 14-42mm EZ SanDisk Extreme 32GB SD Card Olympus Underwater Wide-Angle Converter (PTWC-01) The Olympus Wide Angle Converter (PTWC-01) fits the housing and converts the field of view to 100 degrees underwater. The lens is good condition with normal wear and tear (a few tiny scratches) but it does not affect in any ways the image quality. I can share some recent wide-angle shots and some macro stuff done with the CMC-1 from Nauticam (which I'm not selling by the way). This underwater photography gear is visible in Paris area (Boulogne-Billancourt) and I can ship it to buyer's costs. Price: 900 EUR (or nearest offer)
