  8. Hey guys I'd welcome some advice on creating a "studio" in a swimming pool. I'm essentially looking to create either an "L"-shaped black or white backdrop where the model can pose on the lower, horizontal, leg of the "L". I've had machined up a 2m x 2m length of fabric with a black side and a white side. It has pockets machined on two opposite sides through which I can insert PVC tubes. So I can two get opposite sides quite rigid. In trials I have been able to keep the horizontal sides of the backdrop rigid: the top end held by weights on the pool side, the bottom by weights on the pool floor. But I cannot get the cloth even reasonably rigid on the vertical sides. The billowing folds really show up on the images. I was thinking of using two more PVC tubes vertically, cutting them near the pool floor and inserting some kind of angled joint which would allow for the L-shape. But maybe there is a better way of doing this. Any thoughts out there? Much appreciated!

  11. Hello, I am looking for an advise on selection of an internal color filter(s) for Gates AX700 / Z90 housing. This housing comes with a red filter, but the filter could be changed for another color. Seller recommended me to buy both red filter (for blue water) and pink filter (for green water), as according to him "Water conditions vary due to time of day, currents and particulate in the water." Among other recommendations on internet, here is a typical recommendation: Pink Filter (for use in green water), OrangeFilter (for use at depth up to 15m), Red Filter (for use at depth of 15m or deeper). Could anyone recommend a good article on color filter selection for UW videography? I am diving only in warm water, i.e. Indonesia, Philippines, Caribbean, etc. Also, Gates' color filters are quite expensive ($138US), so I would like to know if there is another manufacturer of good 'pro' quality color filter elements? Thank you for your recommendations.
  12. Evening folks, been a while since I made a video, hope you enjoy. Little Wild Things (watch in 1080p if poss, if not Youtube compression isn't the best) Thanks.

  14. Hi All, I am looking for video lights that can operate both above and below the water for extended time (40 mins+). This is a bit hard to find as most underwater video lights need water to prevent them from overheating. Right now the only option I am able to find is the Light and Motion Stella CL 1000/2500 UW Video Light. The light will function up to 1000 lumens above water and up to 2500 lumens below water. Based on my experience 2 x 1000 lumen video lights is sufficient lighting above water to illuminate photography subjects up to 5 meters away. However, underwater I am not sure if 2 x 2500 Lumen Video lights would provide enough lighting to be useful underwater. My questions are: 1. What type of underwater photography/video would 2 x 2500 lumen Video Lights allow me to do achieve decently? I know it should be enough for macro but what about medium sized subjects at about 0.5 -1 meter distance? 2. Does anyone have experience using the Light and Motion Stella CL 1000/2500 UW Video Light? How was your experience? 3. Does anyone know of other Video Light options that are able to operate above and below water at extended periods? Thanks, Aaron
  15. I've been reading some posts online recommending that for "on land" shooting, the Hero 7 sharpness be set to "low" for more natural looking footage. I haven't gotten to use mine in the water yet but I'm wondering if settings of "medium" or "high" might yield better results underwater where the overall environment is less sharp than on land due to less that gin-clear visibility. Any recommendations for WB of "auto" or "native" (or some other choice) would be helpful, too. I'd be free diving with the camera a depths of 30ft of less. Thanks!
  16. Selling Aquatech Elite Sport Surf Housing for Nikon D810 dSLR including pistol grip. Trying to sell as a package including various ports and Pelican case to suit all commonly used Nikon lens configurations pictured here with Nikon SB-900 Speedlight and Aquatech Housing for Nikon SB-900 Speedlight. Total package including everything is A$3,000 OBO. All cables and connectors are all complete and included. Selling this with regret due to Nikon D810 dSLR camera body being stolen and I currently do not use this housing enough to make it worthwhile buying anew camera body and keeping hold of the underwater setup. Everything works well and is in excellent condition. Open to selling ports and Strike Flash Housing separately if i receive interest and offers. List below of everything included: Aquatech Elite Underwater Housing for Nikon D810 dSLR and leash Aquatech Pistol Grip and Trigger with cable (includes both Focus & Trigger Buttons) Aquatech Strike Housing and Nikon SB-900 Speedflash Aquatech LP-1N Dome Port (for Nikon super wide fisheye lenses) Aquatech LP-1 Dome Port (combined with extensions supports 16-35mm) Aquatech P65 & 100 Flat Lens Ports (combined with extensions supports most common standard and telephoto lenses) Aquatech 25 Extension Ring Aquatech Zoom Gear for Nikon 16-35mm f/4 Interested parties can contact me via email info@migrationmedia.com.au. Feel free to email with more questions or price offers for breakdown gear. Willing to ship internationally at buyers cost.
  17. I'm interested to find out the Wetpixel community's views on current (and older) full frame cameras for underwater use. If you had the choice of any one full frame still camera on the market and expense, current lens ownership, housing choice etc. were no object, which would you chose and why? When responding, please ignore space/size/weight as a selection criteria as all full frame system housings and ports all seem ultimately pretty much the same in terms of weight and bulk. The weight of the camera itself seems to be largely irrelevant! My purpose on this is just to get an idea of what people are thinking. It has no purpose beyond this and I must confess that I am personally very happy with my current choices. Several recent discussions have raised some interesting ideas however, and I think it is a topic that would be useful to explore? Thanking you all in anticipation.
  18. Thought i'd posted this before but i don't think i did. A slightly-too-long compilation of 3 days of Oceanic Mantas at Black Rock in the Mergui Archipelago, Myanmar. Very unusual trip in that (i) lots of mantas there and (ii) the visibility wasnt 5m of green for once! Underwater shot with a Canon EOS70D with and without a magic filter. I know there are frame rate stutter issues in places. No sound track as i dont actually have any music stored locally to put onto the footage.
  19. I'm currently interested in making a DIY 3-leg tripod for videography. If anyone has any smart ideas I'd love to hear about them.
  20. hello! here for sale this YS-D2 used (about 10 dives) with some mark on the body but works perfectly. i am selling because I have now an ikelite ds161 with electrical connetion. original box, diffusers and silicone grease included 450€
  21. Could anyone recommend a good underwater videography course online, liveaboard or at a resort? I attended one at Lembeh a few years ago, and looking for something else, more advanced. Many thanks.
  22. Selling an Olympus PTWC-01 wide angle lens in good condition. The lens has a magnification of 0.6 giving a 100 degree angle of view underwater. This lens has the standard 67mm thread and will fit any housing that accepts 67mm wet lenses. This is a large and solid lens which is very sharp across the entire frame including the corners. Using an RX100 I could zoom through the entire range and the image was still sharp. The optical quality is better than the Inon UWL-100 series. A stainless steel saddle is fitted to allow a lanyard to be attached. There are a few micro scratches on the front glass - see photos. These have no effect on image quality. Priced at US$280 including shipping to US, UK and Western Europe (the item is in Australia). Shipping time is approx 7 to 10 days. Please contact me at: neilwin@iinet.net.au
  23. Curiuos to know if anyone out there is using Nikon SB 5000 in a housing?
