  1. Venus Optics came out with a new macro lens, the 100mm macro with a 2:1 magnification. I was wondering how difficult it is to use a lens like that? I read one (land-based) review where they said a tripod is needed. I read another report that showed examples of hand-held pictures. Now I'm confused. For those who don't know the lens here a quick introduction: Available for Sony, Nikon and Canon. 100mm focal length Manual Focus only Min. focusing distance: 24.7cm (for the 2x magnification) Price: 449 USD. Here is a link from the manufacturer: https://www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-100mm-f-2-8-2x-macro-apo/ Anybody around that uses this lens? Anybody aware of a housing / port that the lens fits in and has a gear sleeve for the manual focus? Does it even make sense to try or is 2:1 magnification too difficult to shoot handheld underwater? I'm debating if I should try that or go with the 100mm macro 1:1 from Canon. Looking forward to hear opinions and facts!

  3. Hello everyone, I have numerous things for sale. In this thread I am looking to sell my Canon EOS 6D body and a Canon macro lens. I have upgraded and would like to get rid of this stuff. The Canon 6D body has quite a bit of mileage on it, I would estimate the shutter count to be about 20,000 but it is superb condition and was well looked after. The macro lens is not nearly as used and is in excellent condition. Here are some details and a link for photos: Canon EOS 6D body (full frame camera) + battery and charger + original box + manual/cables/neck-strap Photos: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q91x2zkct4kcrsq/AAA1vZo0SC-FflVmH4WAUuMja?dl=0 Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM (macro lens) + lens shade + original box + manual Photos: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wabboeubvg15yhq/AACnOl7wAIED7hDXRKbiuz47a?dl=0 Pricing: Canon 6D: 700 USD Canon 100mm: 250 USD I am open to reasonable offers
  4. Aloha, I've got the port setup for the Canon 100mm L macro. I purchased it used (here, as part of a package), having just had brand new glass installed in it. I used it once and it sat on my shelf the rest of the time. Glass is pristine, the exterior has lots of marks from the Diopter mount but it is functionally fine. I don't have any other info unfortunately, it's their older port and extension so it's no longer on their website. How about $225 shipped for it, I know that's below market but with the lack of info I think that's reasonable. Thanks, please let me know if you have any questions! Lyle
  5. For sale is the Zen 100mm Fisheye Dome Port for Nauticam housings, Tokina 10-17 lens. Excellent condition, no scratches. Part # DP-100-N120T $899 new, asking $650 or best offer. Open to offers. Will load pictures asap. From Bluewater Photo: This is a small 4-inch glass dome port for use with the Tokina 10-17mm or Nikon 10.5mm fisheye lens on Nauticam housings. For close-focus wide angle work, Zen Underwater is turning conventional 'big dome' wisdom on its ear with a new 100mm (4") dome port. Designed specifically for the Nikon DX AF Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED and the Tokina Fisheye 10-17mm F3.5-4.5 DX zoom, the DP-100 allows the photographer to get in close where a large dome just won't go for stunning close focus wide angle images. As an added bonus, at only 340g (12oz.), the DP-100 fisheye dome port offers welcome relief to the luggage bloat of dive photo travel and the ever increasing expense associated with checking large heavy camera systems. Small and Lightweight Great for close-focus wide angle photography Includes Front Dome Cap Underwater Photos from the Zen 100mm glass dome for the Tokina fisheye The Zen 4-inch glass dome for the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens is awesome. Zen makes versions for almost any housing brand, including Ikelite, Sea & Sea, Nauticam, Hugyfot and more. It is difficult to scratch (unlike the regular port), very small for travel, light underwater, very sharp, and it allows me to place my dome in small places where a larger dome would interfere with the subject. I like to get REALLY CLOSE to my close-focus wide-angle subjects, and the ZEN 4-inch dome let's me do that. Lighting the subject is easier than when I use a larger dome, and I like not having to use an extension ring. The only disadvantage is that you can't do over/under shots. That, and the fact that there is no good neoprene cover that will stay on the port. So protect your port! I recommend this setup for both cropped-sensor and full-frame dSLRs - Scott Gietler

  7. I wanted to share a short film I made recently. Back in October, I was lucky enough for it to be selected to be shown at the San Diego Undersea Film Expo. It seems that most underwater films are very similar now days. So I wanted to challenge myself to do something a little different. Earlier this year, a young artist, named Nick Carro approached me to ask my permission to draw an image from one of my films that had an octopus in it. I was flattered, but had one condition...that was for him to show me the final piece. Not only did produce an amazing piece of art, but he also filmed himself doing it. He was kind enough to allow me to use some of his footage to make this film. This is different.....and I am curious to know what people think of it. It was a very difficult to edit, but I think it turned out pretty good. Let me know what you think. Enjoy! Dustin Or Youtube

  9. Hello Everyone, I wanted to share my latest video I have put together for my 'Rolling in the Deep' Series. This time it focuses on Macro subjects found in Komodo. I look shooting macro, and I don't feel that macro gets enough attention at least from the video side. Some of the coolest underwater characters are of the small variety. As alway, comments good bad or indifferent are always appreciated. Enjoy! Dustin Or Youtube, watch in HD.

  14. Nauticam NA-600D Housing with MP41 Macro Port Excellent working condition, with cosmetic wear consistent with use. The housing has seen about 260 dives in Indonesia since August, and has never had a leak of any kind. The included MP41 flat macro port accommodates the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 lens (included.) I used the MP41 in conjunction with an Extension Ring 50 (not included) to house the EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. There is a small scratch on the lower front of the port glass that does not show up in photographs. Nauticam Focus Gear for the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens Canon EOS 600D / Rebel T3i, 18MP APS-C Sensor, Full 1080p HD Video Excellent working and cosmetic condition. Purchased new from B&H in August 2012, and has approximately 21,000 shutter actions (99.9% of those were underwater). Camera has functioned perfectly with no issues, has no cosmetic flaws, and has been treated with a lot of love. Most original accessories included, along with a second Canon battery. Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens Purchased new from B&H in August 2012, is in excellent working and cosmetic condition, with zero issues. Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Autofocus Macro Lens Purchased new in Singapore in October 2012, is in excellent working and cosmetic condition, with zero issues. Asking Price: $3300 (30% off original price of all items) Would like to sell as a complete unit, and not for individual parts. Reason for selling is that I have upgraded to the 5D MkIII. Pictures available upon request. I also have a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L wide zoom lens that I could include for an additional cost.
  15. Hello everyone. Has anyone else shot with the Canon 100mm 2.8 L lens with the Ikelite 8" dome port rather than the recommended flat port? I have been using for a couple of months now while shooting in the Maldives and think I am starting to hit some limitations. I am shooting on a 7d and mostly use an adapted Marvels Cine Style picture profile with increased sharpness. I feel the picture is resulting in softer edges and not behind able to focus as close with the dome port. Could anyone using the flat port give me some feedback on their focusing distances and how sharp they are finding this lens underwater? I have a few pictures and vide on the following links: www.flickr.com/pictures/basementvision www.vimeo.com/basementvision Cheers, Alex.
