Hey, I recently purchased the FML – FNX Converter 55G to fit the zen 100mm mini dome to the fantasea line fa6500 housing. (It's for the Tokina 10-17). My issue is that the converter itself 'rocks' quite a bit after installation to the housing which makes me feel the waterproof integrity might be a touch iffy. On top of that, the mini dome 'locks' into the converter by a small pin that clicks down after its twisted into place, but, there is still plenty of room for the dome to continue twisting after the pin. Feels like a lot of unnecessary movement happening, none of which I get with the flat port installed. I tested the integrity of the house using the vacuum pump and there was no pressure loss, after around 10 mins and actually after pumping the housing the movement seems highly reduced due to the pressure gradient, i guess. I'm just worried that a knock or something may result in a pressure failure. Due to covid I havent had the chance to put it underwater yet. Anyone else using the converter/minidome and any similar issues?

Having upgraded to full frame, I'm selling all my a6500 gear - including the housing (with power pack), 45° viewfinder, camera, WWL-C and 16-50mm zoom kit, Touit 50mm macro and port, Sony 10-18mm zoom with dome, TRT flash trigger, a couple of other ports, and various topside lenses including the 16-70mm f4 zoom and 24mm f1.8 ZA. Hello everyone! After 6 years the time has come to upgrade my setup from compact to aps-c or higher. My current setup is : rx100m4 in sony housing + inon uwl100+ subsee+10 and noname 10k lumen video lights. - I love the flexibility because I like to explore and shoot what I find. I mostly use wide angle, but having the ability to switch to macro is awesome. I mostly shoot in the Mediterranean sea or german lakes. - Since I do most of my photography while freediving I move a lot and try to stay as compact as possible. -my budget is 3000€. No nauticam for me. -my biggest complains about my current setup are: noisy images in lowlight or very low contrast situations, low dynamic range (I love to have some light rays or watersurface on my wide shots), the fact that my wide lens cant really do over/under-shots I have been reading and researching for weeks now. Coming from compact cam to interchangeble-lens cams is a lot to take in. I have narrowed it down to buying an A6600 16-50mm, an A7C 28-60mm or a GH-5 12-60mm and a seafrog housing. Do you guys think I can make the FF cam work or would the necessary optics be out of my budget? Do any of you use one of these cams in seafrog housings? Did you find wetlenses that work well with it? Do you think the A7C would be beneficial for my usecase or could it even be worse for me? (Price, depth of field, lower flexibilty in this setup...) Sorry for the long text, thank you for your input! I will include the tools and guide that came with the housing. The housing is in great, almost-new condition, but with some scratches on one of the fiber optic connection holes. The fiber optics still fit fine and it is only cosmetic and does not affect functionality. Other than that, it is flawless and has never been flooded. I have been using a Canon A110 for a few years with a UWL-04 in Nauticam housing. This has been my first camera for UW so served me well to learn some basics. Now keen to see what a different setup could bring. Ideally something that will last my skills for time to come (something to grow into i guess) Lots of positive chat about the A6500, good mix of portability with decent sensor size. Sounds like starting with a 16-50mm lense makes it adaptable to a wide angle and macro wet. Now the A6660 is out the price is even more reasonable. Lenses As i'm just starting out using lenses, are there any recommendations for an initial lense setup with this camera? Something versatile that can be used for macro and wide angle without the cost and hassle of multiple lenses. Housing Was looking Fantasea housing - looks like a good balance of quality, flexibility and price. Any current or past owners with any words of wisdom would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have an Ikelite housing for my Sony A6500. I need to have the door that covers the HDMI and USB ports removed. There's not enough room in the Ike housing to leave the door open. Has anyone done this? Thanks in advance.

I’m putting my barely-used and mint-condition Sony A6500/Fantasea underwater kit up for sale. 12 months ago I foolishly tried to buy my way into a better work/life balance, with more time spent underwater. But I have failed resoundingly. So the kit has been used on a grand total of a single one-week dive trip in the Maldives in January last year, and hasn't got wet since, so it's in as mint a condition as used kit can be really. The image quality this compact little kit puts out is really quite exceptional. Comparing the results to what my dive buddy was getting with his Nauticam/D800e setup, it really wasn’t giving up a lot (with added bonus of terrific 4k video as well). The phase-detect autofocus is Sony’s latest tech, and performs terrifically (even in dim, and murky water). The image quality is fantastic, and the housing is compact, comfortable in the hands, and as easy to operate underwater as the pricier aluminium options (Fantasea really have done an excellent job with the ergonomics). I’ve sold off the more specific lenses and ports, so this is basically the base Fantasea kit. The flat port paired with the nifty little 16-50mm will let you easily expand with Fantasea’s excellent wide-angle and macro wet lenses (which allow you to shoot both wide-angle and macro in a single dive). And to make life easier (and reduce the stress of taking so much expensive kit beneath the waves) there’s also the terrific Leak Sentinel v5 Vacuum System (with LED indicators), and a moisture detector in the housing itself. Hi, Looking to upgrade from my current gear. After a bit of research and reading these forums the Sony A6500 with Sony 10 to 18 F/4 lens in a nauticam housing (with 7" dome) appears to be the best to suit me. Currently one Inon 240Z strobe (would like 2 but $$ limiting at moment with upgrade of gear). I do a lot of technical wreck diving (with camera) (typically 30 to 65 metres) and also shallow reef/muck photos. Have had a great couple of years playing with my Canon with 18 to 55 lens and 50 mm macro. Any thoughts / experience with the Sony A6500 for underwater photos? Interested in the low light capabilities.... Comments or advice? Thanks!

Hey all, I am in a bit of a bind; I've seen some discussion on this for land based stuff, but not for underwater. Right now, Sony is offering a pretty good cashback for its mirrorless cameras and I would like to upgrade to something better than my old canon point and shoot. The two contenders are the a6500 and a7ii. I can currently get an a7ii for about a 200 bucks cheaper than the a6500, including accounting for my intended setup (16-50mm kit / 28-70mm and a 50mm f/2.8 macro + equivalent accessories) Quirks of the respective housings aside, i would like your thoughts on the following: 1. Autofocus ability while underwater - how does the a6500's 'best in class' focusing system translate underwater, in comparison to the a7ii 2. Ease of use (i note the a7ii has more control dials), but how does this translate underwater (assuming all dials are accessible on a housing) 3. Image quality - i won't be doing much video, and i've heard the a6500's sensor is nearly as good as the full frame sensor on the a7ii. 4. Better value long term - noting that the a7ii has a relatively outdated sensor, lenses are more expensive, but it still full frame, vs the top of the line APS-C sensor in the a6500 Cheers!

Hi friends, I'm considering a Sony A6500 in a Nauticam housing, but I have a lot of doubts about the strobes. 1- I want to use my actual Ikelite strobes DS160 and DS161. It seems the TTL will work only with fiber optic cables, am I wrong? 2- If that is true, there is no Nauticam led trigger to avoid the recycle time of the internal camera flashlight. Do someone knows if the Fantasea one (http://www.fantasea.com/s.nl/it.A/id.748/.f) will WORK and FIT into Nauticam A6500 housing?? 3- If in the future i want to replace the Ikelite strobes for Inon Z330 or Z240: can I use the same fiber optic cables? do i have to purchase anything else? Sorry if someone thinks these are silly questions, but I'm coming from a Nikon reflex, Ikelite housing and wired strobes, so I'm really lost in the compatibility setup, changing EVERYTHING. I wanted the feature-set of a fully-laden Nauticam setup, with all the mod-cons, but without all of the weight, so I went with the A6500 paired with the excellent Fantasea Housing and Ports, and Sealife Flexconnect Handles and Arms (which are great for rapidly adjusting the position of your strobes underwater). It's setup for wide-angle (Sony 10-14mm f/4), Macro (Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro), Fisheye (Sony 20mm f/2.8 + VCL-ECF2 Fisheye Converter), and general shooting (Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6), with all of the necessary ports and extensions. And to make life easier (and reduce the stress of taking so much expensive kit beneath the waves) there’s also the terrific Leak Sentinel v5 Vacuum System (with LED indicators), a moisture detector in the housing itself, and an LED strobe trigger for fast and consistent strobe control via fibre optics. Fully assembled (sans strobes) the rig only weighs 4kg (that's under 9lbs!) so it's a terrific improvement size/weight wise compared to a conventional DSLR rig, and one that can travel with you safely in your carry-on luggage. The only thing that needs to be added are strobes or video lights, and you’ll be off shooting. Hello! So I'm diving into a Sony a6500 with Fantasea housing. I'm starting out with the kit 16-50 lens with the respective port and gears. I'm evaluating getting a macro setup fairly quickly and looking at the available lenses for macro there's the kit 16-50 with 12.5 diopter, Sony Macro 50mm and the Sony Macro 90mm, you could use the diopter for the last two. So I would like to see if anybody can help me with sample photos or videos of a comparison of the 16-50mm and 50mm with and without the diopter. The 90mm is out of the question right now as it's a pretty expensive set up, from lens, converter, port etc... With this I'm trying to answer two fundamental questions: (1) is it worth getting the 50mm macro lens (I'd imagine it's much sharper image) vis a vis the kit lens with diopter, and (2) what level of supermacro can I get from the 50mm macro lens with the diopter. For wide there are two immediate choices: 16mm w\ fisheye converter and the 10-16mm wide lens. The fisheye option is cheaper, but I fear it suffers from less sharpness and I'm particularly choosy between fisheye and plain wide. I would think you get better results with the 10-16mm as its a more specialized lens and you don't have the fisheye converter distortion. I've found online articles that treat both subjects, but they left me with questions. For Macro: how does the kit lens compare to 50mm macro (as both have same focal length) and how they perform with diopter. For wide I haven't seen anything on the 10-16mm lens, just of the Tokina\Canon lenses, which are expensive to set up. The opportunity cost (ie dont get any lens) is to just buy the Wide Angle and Diopter external add ons, so it's a question of quality and how much you gain by getting the dedicated lens (which obviously looses on flexibility when shooting). If someone sees something incoherent in the post or would like to reframe their response to help with feedback it's much appreciated. I'd think I'd see more a6500/a6300 users given the relative low cost\high quality you seem to get vis a vis other mirrorless of similar quality (em1 mk2 and GH5) or dSLR equivalents (d500), albeit these edge out in other areas. Basically the a6500 costs about half of these other options right now. Cheers!

I thought I would quickly share my experience using a Sony a6500 underwater. I am using: Sony a6500 in Nauticam housing with Sola 3500 and Intovatec 2500 lights. Zoom - Sony 18-55mm lens in N85 Flat Port 72. Macro - Inon UCL for macro in M67 Flip Diopter Holder. Wide - Sony 10-18mm + Zen Underwater DP-170 Fisheye Dome Port The video here has mostly a6500 footage (0:23 - 3:16): Pros: Having IBIS in a6500 helps to stabilize footage vs. none in the a6300 Using Sony lenses with OSS helps even more Fast autofocus works really well for UW video - especially when subjects move a lot I could get 3+ dives without changing batteries using the Nauticam 2,500 mAh battery pack. Cons: The Sony UW white balance sucks and always need to be corrected in post-production (I use Premiere Pro CC Lumetri). The 4K (3840 x 2160) 30 fps would be better at 100 Mbps and not 60.

Hi All, Piece by piece I'm building my first underwater rig. Sony a6500 (only because I couldn't bare taking my work cameras underwater). I read a few things about domes being positioned correctly etc. so I have this to ask. How specific are domes to lenses? For instance, I have a Sony 10-18mm, Fantasea housing, dome port and 25mm extension (as per their suggestion). In addition to the 10-18 I have a 50mm just for walk around. Can you put a normal lens in a dome port? If domes are super specific, should 3rd party lenses not be considered? Thoughts? Thanks

I just finished testing the Sony A6500 with the Fantasea housing. Absolutely loved it! I used the 16-50mm lens, and played around with wet lenses underwater. The UWL-09F wide angle lens and the UCL-05LF were the ones I tested. The Sony A6500 has been gaining a lot of interest lately, both above water and under. In my opinion it's one of the best mirrorless cameras in the market at this point. The price point is a tad high, I would love to see it a couple of hundred dollars less, but it's still a good deal and prices will probably drop soon. The Fantasea housing is affordable, reliable, very well designed and great for travel. Fantasea put a lot of thought and work into their first mirrorless housing and it paid off!
