  3. Yesterday I had an Eneloop Pro battery venting gas inside my flash. Consequently, I had to use a tool to open the battery compartment due to overpressure inside. When placing all four batteries in a smart charger it indicated that one of them was completely discharged. No visible signs of anything wrong. I have used various Eneloop batteries since 2010, and never before had any problems. Considering how popular Eneloop batteries are among underwater photographers I was surprised to read that Panasonic clearly states they should not be used in airtight appliances - because they may release hydrogen gas if misused: Please do not use eneloop Ni-MH in underwater lights or other airtight appliances Link to Panasonic Q&A. Scroll down a bit. Have anyone else experienced Eneloop batteries venting gas?
  4. Nauticam just issued their GX9 housing (NA-GX9). GX9 inside NA-GX9 seems almost the perfect combo for me. It is small & light, it has pop-up flash for TTL with optical fiber, GX9 is not so expensive, I like it for land photo. But GX9 has a big limitation which is battery life allowing only 260 shots (CIPA). (it is 440 for OMD EM-1 II) I know there is an eco mode but I want to keep screen ON for more than 10s. I would like to be able to do 2-3 dives without opening housing to change battery (day trip boat, 90+min dive with plenty of critter). Then I need a bigger battery. I would like to include an external battery inside the housing. This external battery would be connected in parallel with internal battery. (it could also be connected to usb with a small step up/down circuit but this is less efficient) Here is how I would like to achieve this: 1) etch a groove in the plastic around battery in order to insert 2 wires. Plastic seems to be 0.5-1mm thick: enough for a small wire. Solder this 2 wires on the +& - connector from battery (on the side of connector to not perturbate camera contact to battery) On the bottom side of battery continue groove to bring wire in fromt of battery door small opening from camera. 2) output wires thru battery door small opening Is it possible to output a wire when GX85 is inside NA-GX85? (it seems there is a small piece bellow battery door) 3) connect an external battery with a connector on the 2 wires. This external battery is ideally the same GX9 battery to double the capacity. But it can also be a smaller battery or even 2 X 3.6V battery in serie. I'm even thinking into a multiple small LiPo battery assembled as a ring around lens. With Lipo battery I would probably go thru USB with a step up or step down circuit as it is not the same kind of battery. I'm looking for the available room inside the housing (could be on NA-GX85 or NA-GX7 to get an idea) Could you tell me if there is enough space somewhere in the housing to place an additional DMW-BLG10 battery? (size is 42x37x14mm) If not what would be the available room to place 1 or 2 smaller battery? To build a battery ring around lens what is the space between 60mm macro & 65 port? Did someone already tried anything like that in an underwater housing?

  7. Hello, I'm looking for Sea & Sea YS 125 or 250 Pro Batteries. The batteries and the strobes are discontinued but I really like using these strobes. If anyone has batteries for these models, would you be willing to part with them? I am looking to rebuild the battery packs and give my strobes new life. I appreciate it. Thank you - Scott
  8. Hi, I couldn't find a conversation about this so please point me in the right direction if there is one so that I don't duplicate threads. I use a YS-110 and YS-110a strobe. I was wondering if anyone had any info on batteries to use. I have 2600 mAh for one and 2000 mAh for the second. Does anyone know how many discharges I should get from the batteries when the strobe if fired when used on full power mode? The reason I'm asking is because I have a dive trip coming up where I'd be doing multiple days a day and I'm trying to work out how many spare batteries and chargers to bring along with me. I usually only do one dive a day when at home in Sydney..... so haven't ever run out of power.

  12. Does anyone have experience/knows the Subtronic Maxi and Mini strobes? I see an opportunity to pick up a pair 2nd hand. Since they are older models, I cannot find too much info on them, especially specs of the maxi. How do they compare to the z240 in terms of: - total weight? - reliability? - service demand (life of the flash tube? It is different than the 5500K units of Inon)? - performance/GN under water? I would also be interested, if the units can be converted to use AA-batteries, the battery arm is a good idea, however a bit restrictive in case you want shorter arms. Also I see it uses an electrical connection, is it possible to interface it to optical? (TTL or non-TTL)

  14. Hello, I just got my YS-D1 strobes back from Sea and Sea (I was having the firmware updated). This was my first dive with them since the upgrade. Before that, they were fine. Before the dive I made sure the Oring looked good and was free of any debris, slathered on some silicone lube, put new batteries in and locked the flash. I then did 2 dives (the first was slightly deep @ 112') and didn't notice any strange behavior with the flash. I got back to my hotel room and opened up the flash to take the batteries out and noticed this- So I can't quite tell what happened here. Either my flash flooded or a battery exploded, or ??? I didn't notice any seawater inside the flash, which makes me think the battery exploded. I was diving in the caribbean where the ocean temp was 84-86 degrees, so maybe things got too hot? Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Brown smelly goo in your flash? I'm wondering what to do next and what's the safest way to clean this up. I am also wondering if i should contact Sea & Sea to see if there's something they can do. Thanks! -Pete
