  3. Hello all, I’ve been playing around with the Panasonic Lumix LX10 (LX15 / LX9 in some locales) for underwater video, and finally got around to collecting some of these test shots in a reel. I’m sharing this test footage because there’s not much compact camera based underwater video footage around, and I think it might be of interest to people looking into compact cameras for underwater filming. I added some captions / subs which can be activated for information on shooting depth, light and equipment used, as well as site and conditions. The conditions were far from ideal in most cases (working as an instructor-guide, I can only bring the camera when I'm not leading a dive), too deep, bad viz etc, but I found it interesting to experiment with this compact camera, push it a little to see what could be extracted from the resulting footage. This LX10 test footage was almost exclusively ambient light, in Japan and Palau (Micronesia) where I currently work, mostly with a Keldan Spectrum SF -1.5 filter gel, and an Inon UWL-H100 wide conversion wet lens. I first used a generic wet red filter (Howshot) on the UWL-H100 (not happy with the colour balance) before switching to a far superior (Auto) Magic Filter gel taped directly on the Lumix lens (inside the housing), then finally to a Keldan Spectrum SF -1.5 filter gel, also taped on the lens, which is now my primary filter. Magic Filter and Keldan came really close, but I found the Keldan Spectrum to offer more options for working in post. I would say the main issue I had with the Keldan filter on this camera is the water column blues, which, under certain light / shooting condition, can feel a little too vivid, as in the shallow second-last clip, which would require more desaturation / luma work in post to make it less day-glo... While most of the footage is shot in ambient light (which is my favourite way of shooting), some of the macro footage was shot using artificial lights (2x Archon D11V-II 1000 lumen video lights), with an Inon UCL-165M67 close-up lens (and a homemade quadripod on the nudibranch shots). The camera is housed in a Nauticam NA-LX10 housing, with a Nauticam tray, and float arms to compensate the over -1.5kg negative buoyancy in salt water... The camera is shooting in 4K at 30fps (no zooming in needed to avoid vignetting with the Inon UWL-H100, thanks to the camera’s 36mm crop) , in manual exposure, using backbutton focus (focus peaking for macro), and manually white balancing every 5m or so using a WhiBal white-balance card. The picture profile used is Cinelike D (CineD - there is hack to load and save it in the LX10), with sharpness, noise reduction and saturation at -5, and contrast at 0, and the footage was graded in Final Cut Pro X. I find the footage to be sometimes a little too crisp, despite sharpness being at -5 in the profile. Stabilisation is very average in 4K and autofocus really not the best (but I work with backbutton focus, which solves most of the issues), there is no option to add a monitor, and battery life is good for 1.5 dives on average. But beyond obvious limitations and its age, the LX10 is still a very interesting compact camera for filming underwater, with a good fast lens, and I was quite surprised at how much colour information does make it to the sensor, much deeper than expected. cheers! b
  4. Panasonic Lumix 8mm f3.5 Fish Eye lens for m43. Light weight. Compact. Super sharp. $475 us PayPal or Etrans Buyer to pay shipping. Thanks for looking
  5. Panasonic LUMIX 8mm f/3.5 AF Lens Micro 4/3s in very good condition. All the glass is clean without scratches and the lens is full functional. Both caps included. $300 or best offer
  6. I have for sale a very nice condition Olympus 12-55 f3.5-6.3 lens. This is a really great lens for under water use. It features electronic zoom as well as manual twist zoom. The electronic zoom is super beneficial for video or if you don’t have zoom gears or a zoom option in your housing port. This lens has only seen top side use, and not much of that either. It was planned for UW, but never ended up getting the housing for the m43 body before changing system. I can send other pictures if wanted or needed. Lens is located in Norway. Will ship worldwide at buyers cost. Looking for $250 or best offer. If you have any questions, please let me know.
  7. Of course it is a very good photo camera but as usual Panasonic is among the best when it comes to the video compartment... Lets see if we will have an underwater housing for it. Camera will be introduced today along a new lens and maybe other goodies. It comes in two flavors: DC-S5M2 and DC-S5M2X. The latter with Prores and IP streaming. There is a new lens too: LUMIX S 14-28mm F4-5.6 MACRO lens construction: 14 elements in 10 groups (1 aspherical ED lens, 1 aspherical lens, 3 ED lenses, 1 UHR lens) Shortest shooting distance: 0.15m Maximum magnification: 0.5x (at 28mm) / 0.25x (at 14mm) Filter size: 77mm Size: φ84 x 89.8mm Weight: 345g S5 II Sensor 24.2MP CMOS Dual Native ISO V-Log 640/4000 HLG 400/2500 AF Phase Hybrid AF IS 5-Axis Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization Internal Recording 6K 3:2/17:9 4:2:0 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97p) 5.9K 16:9 4:2:0 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97p) DCI 4K/UHD 4:2:2 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97/47.95/ 48.00/50/59.94p) 3.3K (4:3) 4:2:2 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97/47.95/ 48.00/50p FHD 4:2:2 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97/47.95/ 48.00/50/59.94/ 100.00/119.88p) S5 II X External Recording via USB-C to an SSD 5.8K ProRes 422/422HQ (23.98/24/25/29.97p) DCI 4K/UHD ProRes 422/422HQ (23.98/24/25/29.97/ 50/59.94p) 3.3K (4:3) ProRes 422/422HQ (23.98/24/25/29.97/50p FHD 4:2:2 10-bit (23.98/24/25/29.97/47.95/ 48.00/50/59.94/ 100.00/119.88p)

  9. So there, the evil (upgrade bug) has struck...Been browsing upgrade options for the GH4, and by pure accident noticed S5 - literally FF in GH5M2 body and with lens choice that appears fairly priced. I have always shunned the FF format as both crazily expensive and bulkier than M4/3 but it seems that in the past 1-2 years a lot of so called "entry level" FF cameras showed up, with weight matching M4/3 (or even lighter) and reasonable price (sub 2000 USD), meanwhile M4/3 seems to have gotten a bit heavier, and given the GH5M2/GH6 prices basically matching entry level FF. And I only care about stills, video being irrelevant more or less, so perhaps FF could be a good choice here. As I can tell that the evil is strong, thought I will ask a few questions since seems there are lots of FF folks here. Body wise looked at the following: Nikon: Z5/Z6 II Panasonic: S5 Fuji: XT4 Sony A7RIII / IIIA Anything else out there ?? (sub/around 2000 USD, those A1 cameras are way out of my price range ) A link to a comparison of tech specs of those (vs GHx) below, using dpreview camera comparison feature: GH4 vs GH5M2 vs GH6 vs Z5 vs Z6 II vs S5 vs XT4 vs A7RIII vs A7RIIIA Also a good read on Wetpixel: The Perfect Underwater Camera I am a bit confused by the Sony stack, also curious why Fuji did not get much traction underwater, as it seems an excellent camera on paper at least. But these seem more or less similar to a degree, though AF being generally praised on Sony and Canon R5 (not included as way too pricey) , hence this brings me to my main point - lens mounts and lenses. These all have different mounts L/Z/E and whatcha not. And I am confused.com. So a few questions to all the FF users out there (in an organized fashion so perhaps this topic can serve as a reference later): 1) are there any pro/contra of mount X vs mount Y? (as in tech specs of the mount itself) 2) are there any pro/contra of mount X vs mount Y? (as in lens ecosystem prices and future support, e.g. F being abandoned etc) 4) are there any lenses that are better with a given mount than other? (in other topic there was a talk of Sigma 105mm being slower on Z-mount for example) 5) are there any lenses that really shine but are specific only to a given mount? 6) are there any lenses types that are missing for a given mount, forcing usage of WACP or other pricey/heavy solutions? (like no wide angle etc) 7) anything else that might be important when considering body X /mount A vs body Y/mount B? Thanks for all the feedback in advance EDIT: Forgot to add - do feel free to tell me i am silly and upgrading to FF will yield little benefits. That is also an open question.

  13. The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 was announced at CES by Panasonic on 4 January 2017. Five years ago. Panasonic will have a CES live event on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM PT. So it's either tomorrow or the CP+ show in late february. Confirmed specs in the image. But everyone agrees that it will all come down to whether the new camera use the Phase Detect autofocus method.

  15. I had my gear stolen and decided to replace it with a smaller cheaper system. A few items weren't in the bag so I'm offloading them now. The dome port and gear have been in the water only three times in a pool - so basically brand new. It comes with a neoprene cover and port screw cap. I'd like to sell the gear and the dome as a set. New they go for $180 + $550, or $730. I'll take $500 including in that shipping in the US via PayPal. Haven't sold on this site but I have a lot of history on Ebay as AngusBlue2004. I also have the Panasonic 12-35mm 2.8 Mark I and Mark II versions. If you want a lens I'd give you a good price. na-36133Nauticam N85 6 inch' Wide Angle Dome Port na-36148Nauticam Zoom Gear: Panasonic Lumix G X VARIO 12-35mm f/2.8 ASPH. POWER O.I.S.Zoom Gear

  19. G'day everyone! Firstly I would like to wish everyone to be safe wherever you might be. We all are aware about the world situation, and probably it doesn't really look to be the time to buy more underwater camera gear. I agree with that... ...however, if there is someone, between you all, who desire (or just thinking of) have a nice set up, for video and photo above and below the water... ...then should have a look at what I'm offering. You will be able to shoot UW picture (one strobe incl) and UW Video, for you self, for fun, for private or companies. Out of the Nauticam Housing, the GH5 provide excellent pictures (portrait or street or landscape), but the video settings and features are what makes GH5 special. I did use this Lumix+Nauticam system for the last 2 years, not very frequently, mainly because I had to use the rigs of companies I've worked for. I am about to spend less time in the ocean, and starting a new education in aerial shooting. Therefore I believe this incredible camera have better future in other hands. Selling the full gear together, not separate. The whole set is located in Cairns, Queensland, Australia Offers from AU$8500 please excl. shipping. Please feel free to request further details, info or better photos Now, about the set... GH5 is in pristine condition and have a X-Vario lens with it 12-35mm Camera+sensor+lens they all have been serviced less than a year ago. NA-GH5 housing might have lost a bit of original black paint coating, but it is perfectly working, never had a leak or a single issue. Vacuum system and the leak detector in full working order too. Housing has been serviced just over 6 months ago. Inon Z240 strobe is perfectly working. You'll find the list of parts below, but, before that, I want to remark that, this set up is ready to go for Video and Photo service, Underwater and Dry. I've learnt to film in Natural Light, and I still believe is the best way to show real colours Simply using the white balance and a decent colour correction software you can provide a real memory of the experience. As dry shots, probably is what this camera is made for...I've been shooting video and photos from promo video for professionals or clubs, to wedding or private photo-shootings. This camera is exceptional and very adaptable. You can check some of my work clicking below https://www.instagram.com/theoceanlust/?hl=en So what you actually will get in the deal.. The whole set: Camera Lumix GH5 (with Camera strap) Battery charger 3 Original Panasonic batteries 12-35 mm X-Vario Lens (with Nauticam zoom + Focus gear) Flash Godox TT685 Mini flash trigger Gorillapod 15cm Nauticam NA-GH5 Housing (with Vacuum system and the leak detector) Hand pump Dome port for 12-35 lens (can send picture status of dome) Mounting ball set for tripod Double ball arms 3 x 300mm + 2 x 125mm 7 x Clamps Lanyard Inon Z240 strobe (with spare o-rings) Optic fiber cable 4 x Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries (brand new) Panasonic Charger Novus 1,2,3 polish for dome port 2x Spare batteries (for leak detector and Mini flash trigger) Nauticam and Inon silicon 3x Camera Sensor cleaners ....and the rigid case you'll need to carry all of the above. For web site reasons I can't upload more pictures,or better quality please feel free to ask me additional pictures about any of the items. I can't drop the price, knowing that the whole lot actually has a worth of 10K+ AuD Be safe and check the spec of the GH5 20.3MP MOS sensor Unlimited video recording 4K at 60fps 4:2:0 8-bit 4K up to 30fps 4:2:2 10-bit 1080p up to 60fps at 200Mbps 4:2:2 10-bit (after April update) 6K photo capture Dual SD card slots Full-size HDMI port Free angle touchscreen monitor Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Dust, splash, freeze-Proof USB type-C (USB 3.1 GEN 1) Optional battery grip Optional XLR microphone adapter

  25. I'm going wreck diving in Truk Lagoon this year. Any experiences/recommendations for the best WA setup to cover exterior and interior wreck shots? I'll be shooting an Olympus m43 in a Nauticam housing with dual strobes (Z330 or Retra). Size and weight are main limitations. I only have UW photography experience from a GoPro. Plenty experience top-side. I mainly dive wrecks and this lens/port/dome is only for that purpose. Options I'm considering (probably in this order): Pana 8mm FE i 4" port (size and weight is very attractive, FE for interiors maybe not ideal, doesn't seem flexible enough) Pana 14-42mm in macro port with WWL-1 (versatility is a plus, IQ of pana lens worries me, weight is a disadvantage) Oly 7-14mm in 170mm port (versatility is a plus, better iq than wwl-1 (?), weight is disadvantage) Oly 24mm in 4" port (size is an advantage, maybe more general purpose than 8mm FE) I really would like the Pana 8mm FE option to work, but with only GoPro UW experience, I'm not certain what compromises that will entail.
