  4. Here is my first video using Sony camcorder HXR-NX80 taken during the last diving trip in Philippines this August: https://youtu.be/XZ2JvM6JXkI I have not mastered this camera yet, and on a few occasions I inadvertently used wrong settings (i.e. the internal ND filter was on on a few dives). Also, playing with different settings and filters resulted in some color inconsistencies between different clips. While I am still trying to master this camera, I will greatly appreciate constructive criticism and recommendations. The following equipment was used to make this video: Camera: Sony camcorder HXR-NX80 Housing: Gates AX700 / Z90 with Gates GP34A Wide Angle Port and internal UR Pro Red Filter (on most dives) and UR Pro Pink Filter (on a few dives) Tripod: Gates Tripod Diopters: SAGA +5 Diopter Achromatic Close-Up Macro Lens, and SAGA +10 Diopter Achromatic Close-Up Macro Lens Video Lights: Keldan Video 8X 11,000 Lumen CRI 92 (5400K) with Keldan Ambient Filter M1 (10-20m) for 4X/8X Camera Settings: 4K, 30 FPS, Picture Profile: BT709. I followed the following article for recommended camera settings: AX700-Z90-Housing-Recommended-Settings-R2.pdf In my decision to buy this camera and housing, I followed an advise from Juan Monterey, who convinced me through his articles that this Sony camcorder is one of the best cameras for underwater videography: http://wetpixel.es/mi-actual-equipo-submarino/ As I am shooting only videos, I found many advantages of going with this camcorder and the Gates housing, including but not limited to the following: No need to carry several lenses. With one wide angle dome and diopters you could shoot wide angle and macro on the same dive. Very good and fast auto focus Very easy (one-button touch) white balance setup. Ability to use HLG - Hybrid Log Gamma (In the future for me) Battery is good for four dives (about 4 hrs) One things that puzzled me with this Gates housing is providing a control knob for ND filters, as I have never been in a situation yet when there is too much light under water. Maybe someone could enlighten me about this. For all footage above water I was using iPhone X. Hope to hear your comments and recommendations on how to improve my videos. Many thanks and cheers.
  5. Hello videographers, During my upcoming trip to Raja Ampat, I am planning to do a 'white balance' testing with the Sony camcorder NXR-NX80, and I am looking for help in putting together a 'White Balance Testing' Protocol. The equipment and camera settings that I will be using are listed below. If anyone wanted me to test any specific camera settings or their own preferred settings, please let me know. My intention is to do the following tests at various depths (say about 6m, 10m and 15m) at a patch of corals. 1. No Slate, just with WB to a Scene. Please note that this ARTICLE advises that "the use of a white balance slate is unnecessary [with this camera]. Accurate (or reasonably so) white balance is established by WB SET with any given scene" From my communications with Gates, and my recent experience in Philippines, it appears that if a scene has enough white (or green) subjects, the camcorder could do a quite accurate white balance with a press of just one button - WB SET. 2. Grey Slate 3. White Slate MY EQUIPMENT and SETTINGS: Camera: Sony camcorder HXR-NX80 Housing: Gates AX700 / Z90 with Gates GP34A Wide Angle Port and internal URPro Pink Filter (for green water) Video Lights: Keldan Video 8X 11,000 Lumen CRI 92 (5400K) with Keldan Ambient Filter 6BG for 4X/8X (This filter is recommended for blue-green water within a depth range between 4-12 meters) Camera Settings: 4K, 30 FPS, Picture Profile: BT709. I follow the following article for recommended camera settings: AX700-Z90-Housing-Recommended-Settings-R2.pdf Thank you for your feedback. Val Please check my YouTube Channel
  6. Hi all, i have some gear for sale. Sony rx 100 ii, Recsea polycarbonate housing - cws rx100 ii, UWL-100 wide angle wet lens and a variety of chargers and accessories. I am selling as i have finally upgraded to a basic dslr set up. This system has served me very well and ive managed some results that im very proud of. I used it with a pair of sea and sea strobes, the wide angle wet lens and macro diopters and have found it to quite an effective system for both macro critters and wide angle subjects. I will post links to some of my imagesin the comments and you can judge for yourselves. Obviously this is now quite an old camera and wont be suitable for those who need cutting edge tech but for me the image quality is fine. Prices will reflect the age of the model of camera (i think sony are up to mark 6 now?!). If anyone is interested to buy they will need to find a tray and strobes and arms etc as i need to hang on to mine for my new system. All the gear is in good condition. The housing has been regularly greased in the buttons, comes with two o rings, no scratches or serious damage, clear glass. Shows signs of wear of course. It has a 67mm thread to recieve wet lenses and a removeable port for fiber optic cables which i will include with the housing. Has been discontinued now but cost me USD $500 originally will accept £250 ono https://www.backscatter.com/Recsea-CWS-RX100II-Sony-RX100-MarkII-Underwater-Housing The UWL - H100 is as good as new, no scratches or water marks. comes for front and rear element protective caps. cheapest i can find in UK is £360. Asking £250 as it is in great condition. https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-inon-uwl-h100-type-2-m67-wide-angle-conversion-lens.htm The RX 100 ii camera has one issue, the automatic pop up flash is no longer functional as a 'pop up' flash. still works fine to trigger strobes etc. Its not a great design unfortunately. Otherwise the camera is fine. Will include all chargers and 2 batteries (and a third if i can find it...) As it has this fault i can accept £100 (is around £300 for a new one here) https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx100-m2 I Would prefer to sell all together if possible. £550 with all the accesories. I really hope this camera gets used again. I dont want it gathering dust in the back of my cupboard...

  11. Hi, I'm using the Sony A7R II in Nauticam housing, with the Sony FE 28mm f2 and Nauticam WWL-1 as my setup for wide angle. Lighting is Sea&Sea YS-D1 x2 + iTorch 2800 focus light. I am interested in a wider option, up to and including fisheye. The intended application is upcoming wide angle workshops in the Red Sea and Cayman. I looked at the fisheye converter for the 28mm lens and corresponding ports and domes. My concern is being stuck with only one photography "look" (fisheye) and one focal length for an entire trip, as I cannot imagine traveling with both setups. I am considering the Sony FE 16-35mm GMaster with Nauticam 180mm glass dome or Canon 8-15mm via Metabones adapter as possible alternatives. Could I get some advice on these choices? If anybody has hands-on expereince with any of these setups, that would be especially useful. Some specific questions: 1. Is the concern about the fisheye converter justified? Or would that option still give enough flexibility for general use? 2. Would the 16-35 option be a significant improvement over my current setup? I cannot find info on the expected field of view of this setup anywhere. 3. How close to a native lens is the performance of the Canon 8-15 via adapter on this camera underwater? I don't consider myself a very skilled photographer, and even a modest drop in autofocus performance would very likely cripple me. Thank you very much!

  19. Much as it hurts me to do this. I’m putting my barely-used and mint-condition Sony A6500/Fantasea underwater kit up for sale. 12 months ago I foolishly tried to buy my way into a better work/life balance, with more time spent underwater. But I have failed resoundingly. So the kit has been used on a grand total of a single one-week dive trip in the Maldives in January last year, and hasn't got wet since, so it's in as mint a condition as used kit can be really. The image quality this compact little kit puts out is really quite exceptional. Comparing the results to what my dive buddy was getting with his Nauticam/D800e setup, it really wasn’t giving up a lot (with added bonus of terrific 4k video as well). The phase-detect autofocus is Sony’s latest tech, and performs terrifically (even in dim, and murky water). The image quality is fantastic, and the housing is compact, comfortable in the hands, and as easy to operate underwater as the pricier aluminium options (Fantasea really have done an excellent job with the ergonomics). I’ve sold off the more specific lenses and ports, so this is basically the base Fantasea kit. The flat port paired with the nifty little 16-50mm will let you easily expand with Fantasea’s excellent wide-angle and macro wet lenses (which allow you to shoot both wide-angle and macro in a single dive). And to make life easier (and reduce the stress of taking so much expensive kit beneath the waves) there’s also the terrific Leak Sentinel v5 Vacuum System (with LED indicators), and a moisture detector in the housing itself. The kit includes: CAMERA: Sony A6500 Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 3x Sony NP-FW50 Batteries HOUSING: Fantasea FA6500 Housing for Sony a6500 and a6300 Fantasea FML Flat Port 34 Leak Sentinel V5 SeaLife Flexconnect Dual Tray 2x SeaLife Flexconnect Ball Joint Adapter SL999 (male) 2x SeaLife Flexconnect Grip 6x SeaLife Flexconnect Flex Arms 2X Sea & Sea Fibre Optic Cables Spare O-Rings, grease, vacuum pump etc. etc. So get yourself some cheap happiness at the mere cost of my misery/failure! $4,900 AUD worth of practically new kit, yours for $3400 AUD / $2300 USD + Shipping Pickup available from Melbourne, Australia. Or I can ship it wherever you need. Cheers, Mark

  21. Greetings! I have just recently upgraded and am selling my mirrorless underwater system! I have really enjoyed it and it took a lot of personal deliberation before deciding to finally let it go and fully commit to my new set up. The sony a6500 is a great underwater camera for photographers getting serious! For Sale: Sony a6500 camera: $900 or nearest offer, 16-50mm lens included. $800 body only. Sony 16-50mm lens: $150 Fantasea FA6500 Housing: $650 with port and zoom gear. $500 housing body only. Fantasia FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear: $200 Fantasea - AOI UWL-09F Wide Angle Wet Lens: $400 See below for details and photos of each item! Please send direct message with any questions. The items are located in the USA. I do not favor shipping internationally since it is more costly to you (I would add shipping cost to the price), takes longer, and seems to be more risky. But if you are really interested we can discuss it over private message. Sony a6500 mirrorless cropped sensor camera body AND Sony 16-50 mm kit lens: ($900 o.b.o.) Good condition, gently used with signs of normal wear. Just over 11,200 shutter actuations, but this camera is one of the best in it's class, with the mechanical shutter rated up to 200,000 actuations. The sensor is perfect, and the back display screen is in great condition. All buttons and functions working perfect and properly. I have a battery charger and 5 batteries for it included. I also have the original box and operations manual for the new owner. The Sony E-mount 16-50mm lens is included and is in perfect condition. Glass is flawless and autofocus works perfect. I used this lens underwater with nice results! It is a very good versatile lens and I have also used macro wet diopters and a wet wide angle dome with it with happy results I also have two polarizer filters, a couple ND filters, and a few macro diopters for the 16-50mm lens included, as well as a Sony camera bag, neoprene camera case, I am selling the sony camera body and lens together, but send me a message if you are interested in either piece separate. Please ask if you want to see more photos. Asking $900 for the camera and lens. The items are located in the US and I prefer to ship within the continental USA, but please contact me for international shipping rates and I can do some research. Fantasea FA6500 Housing AND FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear ($650 o.b.o) The housing has been set for the a6500, but can be converted to be used with the a6300. I will include the tools and guide that came with the housing. The housing is in great, almost-new condition, but with some scratches on one of the fiber optic connection holes. The fiber optics still fit fine and it is only cosmetic and does not affect functionality. Other than that, it is flawless and has never been flooded. I will include original o-rings and also Fantasea replacement o-rings. (Original Retail Price $750). Also included is the Fantasea FML Flat Port 34 with zoom gear to fit the Sony 16-50mm lens. The port lens is in good condition with no scratches or blemishes and the zoom gear is perfect. (original price $400). I also have a cheap tray that served me quite well for a couple of years that I will throw in to whoever buys the housing! (see photo) Fantasea - AOI UWL-09F Wide Angle Wet Lens with protective case and adapter. ($400 o.b.o.) A wonderful wet wide angle lens, fits a 67mm housing port thread. 130 degree field of view. The original price is $700 for a new one, this one is used and has some minor scuffs and one small scratch on the dome. This has not interfered with photos as far as I have noticed! I will try to upload some sample photos that I took with it recently. I used this wet lens with the Sony a6500 and kit 16-50mm lens with very satisfying results! Please direct message me with any questions!

  25. Hi, Looking to upgrade from my current gear. After a bit of research and reading these forums the Sony A6500 with Sony 10 to 18 F/4 lens in a nauticam housing (with 7" dome) appears to be the best to suit me. Currently one Inon 240Z strobe (would like 2 but $$ limiting at moment with upgrade of gear). I do a lot of technical wreck diving (with camera) (typically 30 to 65 metres) and also shallow reef/muck photos. Have had a great couple of years playing with my Canon with 18 to 55 lens and 50 mm macro. Any thoughts / experience with the Sony A6500 for underwater photos? Interested in the low light capabilities.... Comments or advice? Thanks!
